You can walk along the various ponds and see the trout in several stages of growth. Signage along the way to explain the process. As you walk along you will notice the schools of fish will tend to follow you. The wildlife museum is closed due to COVID.

Only a short walk from downtown on the beautiful river trail of Durango is this wonderful place of family fun, learning and ty he best part its free. They offer a live fish hatchery where for 25 cents you can feed the fish yourself. Its as always fun to see the fish go food crazy weather you have food in had or not. They also offer a wonderful museum. Its open Monday thru Saturday from 10 am to 5pm and Sunday from 11 to 3pm. Stop in for a short 15 min film and then see and learn about the wildlife of the area. They also offer activities for the young children. This should be a definite stop when visiting Durango Colorado.

Good place to learn it about local species of animals and fish. You get to feel different animals skins. You can feed the trout in the Fishery area. And learn about how they raise and release the trout.

We are so very disappointed with the state. We brought in a baby magpie, fell out of nest after being attacked by a crow. We told them to please let us know if they were going to euthanize. Never heard a word! Called them 1 hour later and it was dead. We wanted to keep it. No warning, no word. Kiss off to the whole government. That is why we call you gestapo. Boo hiss

Such an adorable weird little outing-- the Hatchery and Fishery! They have all the fish out in these troughs and you can feed them out of 25 cent gumball style machines! Right next to Animas Brewery so you can grab a beer in the sun afterwards :)

This place is amazing!! They have a fish hatchery where the kids can feed the fish. They also have a wildlife museum with lots of educational material ...and games for kids. Inside they also have REAL animal pelts you can touch. All of this is run by volunteers. You have to stop by this place and help support them. The wildlife division is very important and learning about the things is essential ...and they need your help.
