It doesnt look like much from the back parking area, but our two boys, 4 and 6, spent a little over 3 hours among all the interactive exhibits and wanted to go back later that day because your ticket price lasts all day, even if you leave for lunch. Its an open concept warehouse set up so you can see your children pretty much from any place you stand. We held a milk snake! There were picking exhibits, building exhibits, rocket launching and more. My only complaint is that adults cost $8 and kids over a certain age cost $7. Most of the adults are just supervising, so I think their ticket cost should be much less-$2 or $3. Our kids loved it though, and if we lived in Durango, wed definitely buy a family membership. If you already have the ASTC reciprocal membership at another museum, it would be free for you.

We had our wedding reception at the Powerhouse in June of 2019. Charlotte Ford, the event coordinator, and the rest of the staff made our reception a breeze. We had the time of our lives and were able to focus on quality time with our family and friends for the entire evening. I could not give higher praise of the staff and venue and we are so happy with our decision to host our wedding reception at the Powerhouse Science Center. The kids had plenty of games and activities, and so did the adults! The puzzles and games are great for everyone of all ages! Our guests were able to get home easily and safely at the end of the night. A huge thanks and much gratitude for everyone at the Powerhouse who made our reception an amazing evening with our loved ones that we will cherish forever.

What a great science center in the 4 corners region! My husband and I ventured this place with our son. My recommendation is to use the groupon app to pay for admission prices if you’re looking to save some money. Otherwise, this place is great and a lot of fun! It also has some items on loan from ABQ’s explora center.

Awesome hands on science experience for kids and grown-ups alike. The fundamentals of many scientific/engineering disciplines presented in an exciting, fun manner (informed that many exhibits on loan from Explora out of Albuquerque). The old Powerhouse building is a must to see. Family spent hours there and will return. The river walk is fantastic as well.

Great place to bring your family but a lot of the stations were not working or broken. Everything seemed a little dirty I would like to see sanitizer wipes spread out through the place to clean the stations. It also would be very nice if the employee sitting at the front desk would walk around showing people how to use the stations and picking up spread out pieces. The virtuality station is ages 12 and up so my 9 year old son didn’t get a chance to enjoy it I think it’s be wise to change the ages from 7 or 8 and up. Other then that it was an interesting place!

I took my son there many years ago when I was married. Lots of hands on activities to engage the mind. I chanced upon it more recently when I was dating a single mom with two kids. Her son was rather exuberant, so this was the perfect place for him to expend some of that excess energy.

Amazing spot for the littles! Our children loved the three story climbing structure, the flight simulator, the sensory sand, the costume area, the pipes that suck up and blow scarves, etc. Dont be fooled by how small it looks when you walk in. It provided hours of indoor play for our kids which is hard to come by. Will definitely visit again if were ever in the area.

This is a half way decent science center for kids. They could put a lot more effort into. The older kids exhibits with robotics had terrible instruction and no one to explain. My kids were bored in 30 mins. Im not impressed on the number of exhibits either. Ive worked at math and science centers. Perhaps my expectations are high. But why shouldnt they be? Plus, why charge parents to just sit there. Hire some college students to interact with kids, show them. Go if you have nothing else, but I wont ever be back.

For a small science center, this place is awesome! We try and support small discovery centers because they are more hands on and interactive. As for Powerhouse, its a cool and funky setting (old power plant) with fun things for all ages. We expected maybe 30 minutes of activity but were there nearly an hour and a half. Great midday stop if youre coming through Durango and need a stretch break. Highly recommend.

A must see if you are visiting Durango with children! Powerhouse Science Center is a great place to take the kids but the brain teaser are also fun for adults - when it was time to leave, *I* had to be torn away! Powerhouse had fun and engaging educational activities for all three of our children (aged 2, 4 and 7). There is also a nice summary of the of the Tesla vs Edison battle for the nations electric standard and its connection to the Powerhouse and southwestern Colorado. The staff are friendly, helpful and engaged. It is worth checking Groupon for discounted admission tickets. We will definitely go back on future visits to Durango.

We are used to the childrens museum in Denver so this was a huge change. But it was nice to scale down, not so over stimulating and much less crowded. We used a Groupon which make our tickets $4.50 each. I we had paid more Id have been disappointed but it the experience was equal to the price. My 6 year old enjoyed it for about an hour. Congrats to Durango for getting such a neat place for kids started.
