Came here expecting more. For such a legacy of JFK, I expected something more elaborate. But once you go inside, it gets noticeably quiet. Definitely a somber place, but a simple memorial. A sign of the times back then I guess, so maybe its fitting.

When I was just a kid walking up to this impressive monument I was expecting something grand on the inside, but the was nothing, just a big empty space and a black slab of granite. I felt let down that there wasn’t more. Years later I realized that was the point. With Kennedy’s assassination there was a void created that will never be filled.

Very cool concrete memorial to JFK who was assassinated nearby at Dealey Plaza in Dallas. Really interesting and important place to come. Recommend you visit here, Dealey Plaza, and the 6th Floor Museum to understand the historical importance of this area on that fateful day (11/22/1963).

The actual monument is very unusual. I didnt think of it that much. Just 4 concrete walls with a black marble stone in the middle of the walls carrying JFKs name on its sides. What I liked more was the street and the building where the shots were fired from. The street is marked with Xs in both places where the shots hit the President. The street is Elm street further down to the left of the monument.

Stark is certainly the word. The concrete slabs which form the memorial are somewhat brutalist and I did find myself wondering whether they are really a worthy memorial for a man with such a legacy. However, the footfall around the memorial was quiet when I visited on a warm April afternoon and it did feel like a haven from the hustle and bustle of the city. I also acknowledge that the style is of its time, having been designed by a close family friend of the Kennedys. I didnt exactly love it but I respect what it represents and what it is meant to achieve. Id certainly recommend that anyone visiting Dallas from out of town takes the time to check it out.

The place where John F Kennedy was assassinated. Im old enough to remember when this happened. I was five years old and I remember my mother becoming very upset. Dad was at work and our TV was a large black and white. The next days were all about this as our world was in shock. I remember the video of this and all these years later it was jarring to be standing here where it actually happened. I can still hear the drums of the funeral parade in Washington several days later. Dallas is a beautiful city and its a shame that it will forever be linked with this (at least for my generation).

The JFK memorial at first appears a bit stern and too much bare concrete, but once you get up close and inside it is actually quite evocative. It is clear America is still very much mourning their most royalty like President and is still wondering how it all could happen. A pity he could not live to see his moonshot become reality, the most significant achievement of mankind in the 20th century.

Along with my Nephew Mr.Sarguru and his family, I had an opportunity to visit the memorial museum with my family on 1st Sep 2019. From the 6th floor of the Library building, Mr.JFK the President of USA was mercilessly shot dead on 22nd Nov 1963 while he was visiting and greeting lakhs and lakhs of people on the road side. The cruelest assassin was called Oswald who was also caught red handed and shot dead within 48 hours of the assassination of MR.JFK. The Governor of the state who was also shot had had his life after medical treatment. The assassin took position for the gunshot hiding within the carton boxes heaped up in the 6th floor and shot MR.JFK dead through the window. We could all see the photographs and videos of the assassination spot and the rifle used.We could also read the displayed messages that even after 15 years of FBI investigation and filing court cases, the sabotage could not be proved and that the case was closed by the Court. Then I recorded my observations and remarks in the visitors book kept there and came out of the building with tears in my eyes and heavy-weighted minds.

Eerie to go here and look onto the scene where JFK lost his life. Do pay for parking we went on a Sunday afternoon it wasnt packed downtown and we were the only car in the parking lot. We paid 10 dollars to park, put the receipt on our dash and felt like that would be better than coming back and finding a boot on our car. We parked and proceeded to walk around Dealey Plaza. There are lots of plaques and markers pointing out various points of interest including the spot where Abraham Zupruder was filming Kennedy to the more obscure monuments that mark other important people and events that pertain to the city itself. There is a museum in the school book depository with an adjacent parking lot. The museum was closed when we were there but I plan on revisiting to take a tour. I wasnt surprised by how many people were there doing the same thing even though there were no other crowds in the downtown area. We walled around to the Big red courthouse and saw the log cabin that sits to the side of Big Red. The JFK memorial there is a great place to visit i found it immensely vast and empty with a single large black granite slab in the center with his name in larger gold letters etched in the side. Wether your a history nut, or a conspiracy nut this place is something to experience. Look for two large white X marks in the street go stand there. When you can look behind you at the school book depository and try not to feel something.

The John Fitzgerald Kennedy Memorial is a monument to United States President John Fitzgerald Kennedy in the West End Historic District of downtown Dallas, Texas erected in 1970, and designed by noted architect Philip Johnson.Address: 646 Main St, Dallas, TX 75202Hours:Open 24 hoursPart of: Dealey Plaza Historic District (#93001607); Westend Historic District (#78002918);Designated NHLDCP: April 19, 1993Architect: Philip JohnsonPhilip Johnsons design is a cenotaph, or empty tomb, that symbolizes the freedom of Kennedys spirit. The memorial is a square, roofless room, 30 feet (9.1 m) tall and 50 by 50 feet (15 by 15 m) square with two narrow openings facing north and south. The walls consist of 72 white precast concrete columns, most of which end 29 inches (740 mm) above the earth. Eight columns (two in each corner) extend to the ground, acting as legs that support the monument.[8] Each column ends in a light fixture. At night, the lights create the illusion that the structure is supported by the light itself. The corners and doors of this roofless room are decorated with rows of concrete circles, or medallions, each identical and perfectly aligned. These decorations introduce the circular shape into the square architecture of the Kennedy Memorial. The cenotaph lies atop a low concrete hill, embossed with squares and slightly elevated compared to street level. Inside is a low block of dark granite, 8 feet (2.4 m) square, set into a larger shallow depression. The granite square is decorated on its north and south faces with the name John Fitzgerald Kennedy carved in gold letters. It is too empty to be a base, too short to be a table, but too square to be a tomb. The letters have been painted gold to capture the light from the white floating column walls and the pale concrete floor. These words – three words of a famous name – are the only verbal messages in the empty room.
