Everything about this park is absolutely breathtaking. The vistas of the ocean are stunning, the gardens fragrant and gorgeous, the wooded trails are dappled in sunlight and greenery, the jagged rocky coast and deep dark blue ocean with those beautiful white wave crests. The smell of salt in the air. I simply cant even put into words how beautiful and peaceful it is here, its my absolute favorite and truly a gem of the Oregon coast.

Shores Acres is the former estate of a lumberman and features a large botanical garden. You will find trees, scrubs, different kinds of blooming flowers for each season and a lily pond.A large selection of prize winning roses, dahlias, rhododendrons, and azaleas are found in bloom at different times of the year.A number of hiking trails including one down to Harris Beach, which is a secluded cove.It was foggy at the time of my visit and hard to see the offshore islands. The information center and gift shop are currently closed.A five dollar fee is charged and payable in cash at the entrance booth.A nice stop on the Cape Argo highway with great botanical gardens, hiking trails and a secluded beach.

Absolutely one of my favorite hidden gems on the Oregon coast. I remember finding this place over 10 years ago and ever since, I’ve come to absorb the beauty every single time I’m in Oregon. The crisp yet humid coastal air along with the smell of American roses rejuvenates your mind and body and the observation and curiosity of a number of plants they have on site with pique anyone’s inner botanist. Thank you for such a great job groundskeepers!

This place is magical. The open air, the people, hot cider and gingerbread cookies... and the lights!Be prepared for a wait as this place is very popular - for good reason. Static displays reflect in the pools and, the night we were there, a misty rain added halos to the display... it was wholly heartwarming! Children and adults point in happy wonder as they make their way around the vivid displays. Lighted frogs jump in the pond, hummingbirds and butterflies decorate the trees. It is so simple and yet so spectacular. Its a 4 1/2 hour drive our house - just south of Coos Bay, Oregon, so we wont go every year, but we will go again. Hope to see you there!

This place had been on my list for so long, and it completely exceeded my expectations! Theres a lot to see and do here, theres a beautiful botanical garden, theres trails, depending on the time of year and day theres beaches, and theres also endless wave watching. Theres nowhere else quite like this place.I was really impressed with the garden. They had umbrellas and wheelchairs that could be used free of charge. We were there during the holidays and the light display was incredible! They had complementary cookies and hot drinks to enjoy while you walked around. The best part is its a state park so if youre camping in one of the parks or have a state parks pass it doesnt cost extra!Since we were here over New Years we werent able to go down to the beach due to the tides not being in our favor. The wave watching was incredible. The rock formations are so unique and they really put on a show. Definitely one of my all time favorite places on the coast.

This place is beautiful and very well-maintained. It has a lot going for it: fascinating history, a beautiful garden, a great little beach, incredible geology... It makes for a wonderful stop to stroll and take pictures, and it would honestly make a great wedding destination. I cant wait to see the holiday lights they put up each year! Its definitely worth the parking admission. But, pro tip: if you dont want to pay for parking, just park at the viewpoint just down the road and walk the VERY easy trail the rest of the way. While I was there, the bathrooms were unavailable, but I dont know why. Just keep that in mind.

What a lovely experience, the low fall sun and morning mist cast magical sun rays throughout the forest. There is plenty of places to sit and take in the surf. There is an enclosed viewing area for when storms are raging or to just hang out in to stay out of the wind. The botanical garden is stunning. Be sure to either have an Oregon State Parks pass or the exact $5.00 for the day use ticket as the machine did not give change. You can purchase the Oregon State Parks Pass at the gift shop at Shore Acres, the 2 year pass is cheaper than the 1 year.

The park sells a 1 or 2 year state park pass for OR state parks. The pass hangs onto your rear view mirror or can be placed on front dash. One can also offer it to guests so they can explore Oregons state parks for no fee. Shore acres is one of the finest state parks weve viewed. One never tires of the changing foliage throughout the seasons. I recommend this park highly, place it at the top of your list. A nice perk for your out of town visitors or renters. No cell service out there.

Wowza! The beauty of nature that is irreplaceable is right here outside of Coos Bay, Oregon . On a stormy day you will see the swells from the ocean for miles. You might have the opportunity to see a pod of whales swimming by. More than likely if you hike down to the beach area that is very secluded you will run into incredible wildlife and sea creatures. The stones and shells of years past will delight you. A must see to anyone traveling through the area… Don’t miss it. It’s absolutely beautiful.

Amazing place to visit. The view point is fantastic. The rocks seen from above were impressive to see after years of erosion. The dips and holes that have formed are just crazy. In some areas you see indents and in others there are perfectly rounded mounds of the sand stone that look like they have grown up and out of the earth. Beautiful waves crash over these giant rocks at high tide to provide spectacular photos of the Oregon coasts natural beauty; truly a photographers dream! Dont forget to stop at the gardens while you are there. Spring is the best time of year for this section but the gardens are beautiful year round for the true horticulturist!

It was a bit stormy while we were here today, but nonetheless we could still hear the jibber jabber of these fabulous creatures. There’s plenty to see along the Oregon Coastline. We enjoyed walking thru the Simpson Estate garden and taking in the views from the observation deck, as well as a trail that took us to a historic tennis court along the way. Property was formerly owned by a lumbar magnate. Great place for all!
