Awesome hike! Well worth it. Takes about 1.5 hours up. Loose rocks on moderate grade about 1/2 way up - so be careful. Find some tree limbs for walking sticks especially on the way down. About 3/4 up are Aspens in a saddle between 2 hill tops. The next leg after the Aspens is a steep climb. If you take the blue dot trail it is steep, loose rocks for about the 1st half of the last leg. Go about 100 meters more into the Aspens past the blue dot and the grade is much less and no loose rocks. View from top is inspiring. Take a 1/2 day and enjoy. Bring 2 bottles of water. Better to hike in the dry.

Tough hike/ climb up a craggy peak behind the AFA. Trail is very scenic with a stream and small waterfalls along the way. It measures about 1.4 miles up with around 2000 feet of gain.

Amazing hike. I did make a right turn at one point and found myself climbing vertically after a while. Read some reviews and found there is a false boulder wall. You can easily pop right over it. The trail was really icy. Took an extra few hours to complete but the summit is worth it. I slid back down on my butt most the trail back. Can’t wait to do it again!!

Hard hike in the snow and ice but as always the views are stunbing.

Very difficult hike. 2000 ft of elevation gain in less than 2 miles. Toward the top, the trail gets lost without following the blue dots. Views are worth the hike.

Tough hike, especially when you miss the cross over and go the wrong way for too long...great workout with a amazing views. Very quiet and less traveled compared to the Incline. 628 metres gained from the parking lot(2060ft).

Tough hike but definitely worth the amazing views. I spent an hour on top and was reluctant to leave. More difficult than the incline in my opinion because it seems to be about 95% uphill all the way. All Trails Pro kept me from getting lost a couple of times but a few times near the top lost GPS signal so make sure you have good backup map or somebody who knows the route with you.

Used to hike this trail all the time as a cadet here at the United States Air Force Academy. Beautiful views and a great workout. The trail is well worn so you will be able to find you way pretty easy and show not lose trail. I would recommend this hike!

My wife and Is favorite hike in the area. It is very tough, but not that long. The trail is not kept up very well and you can get lost easily if you dont follow the creek but all in all a great hike.

More could be done to mark the trail in a few places...perfect otherwise.

This hike goes right up the mountain so expect uphill uphill uphill. There are a few times the trail can be hard to follow so be sure to find the markers along the trail specifically after the Aspen psych before the final leg to the top. Bring water and know that you are at elevation.

Steep climb with an aspen grove about 3/4 of the way up. Shaded all the way except for on the peak. Nice view of pikes peak. Be careful for loose rock on the way down. Fairly busy the Saturday afternoon I went.

I was told by security police that USAFA Natural Resources is spray painting the boulders and trees to mark the trail. They should be using cairns instead. This trail is in the Pike National Forest which prohibits spray painting anything. You are supposed to only leave your foot prints when in Pike National Forest. There is a sign at the beginning of the trail that says that you are entering Pikes National Forest. The sign also says Please do not deface rocks. I used to enjoy this trail. It has been ruined by all the paint. The arrows are a foot or more long. The discs are a foot in diameter. The lines are 4 across and more than a foot long. It is really ugly. I dont know why the Forest Service allows Academy Natural Resources to do this. I would think that an organization with a name that includes Natural Resources would protect the beauty of our wild lands; not destroy it. Can you imagine the trail to the top of Pikes Peak if it was spray painted to mark the trail?

So far its my favorite hike. WARNING: the meadow is at the end of the trail. But you have to go south (left) to get to the peak and the hike is very intense. However there isnt a better view of the academy or the north springs.
