Very nice quick hike! Round trip from the parking lot it was about 4.0 miles round trip if you stick to the path. However, I ran up the side of Captain Jacks which was a lot of fun! The views are fantastic and I suggest going to both Peaks while you are up there. This is a great hike for anyone! Not a lot of elevation gain so it isnt very difficult. Enjoy!
Pretty great trail. The loose gravel is a bit excessive. I feel like I need paddle tires just to take the trail.
Get there early - this parking area fills up even on week days. If its full you can park down the East side on the roadside.
Awesome MTB and Moto Trailhead access. Ride on
This was a great experience. Never been there before so when driving through the tunnels I was amazed
Multi use trail system heads up everyone you all have to understand this is a multi use trail system closest to the city. it is the closest trail to the springs. We are not here to destroy land. In fact we volunteer to maintain it. Other than that great awesome trail for all outdoor enthusiasts. Dont like the traffic? Then go to another place
First things first, this is a busy trail. It services hikers, mountainbikes, and dirt bikes...and is the only single track trail open to motorcycles in all of El Paso County, so expect to pass a few on basically any day you go. Traffic (foot or otherwise) on the trail can get pretty congested on the weekends and holidays. Most people you come across are pretty respectful and observe trail etiquette. Watch for mountain bikes! They can come up on you fast and unlike the dirt bikes, they make very little sound and youll likely have little warning or time to dive out of their way. That said, as far as a moto single track goes, its a fun trail. Nothing overly amazing, but there are some great views and some fun obstacles to navigate through. No restrooms or water fountain at the trailhead or on the trail, so bring water.
Ive been riding dirt bikes here for 37 years. Every once in a while they close it to dirt bikes but rite now its open to all but 4 wheelers. I grew up on this trail and love it. Ill see u all there when the snow melts.
Parked my car here overnight for 4 days while on a trip (Friday - Monday). No issues
It is experienced best without tourists and overcrowding
Great to hike, somewhat hard on a dirtbike.
No too bad on a dirt bike, a lot of hikers
This is a nice mountain trail. It has a good trail to follow. The scenery is great. Hiking, bikes and 4-wheelers allowed. It is not too hard to climb. Of course, it goes uphill but not really steep. There is a big dirt parking lot for free parking.
Great work out only down fall there are no trail markers so we got lost for a very short distance. Just use common sense.
Steep hike but worth it.multi use trail lots of dirt bikes and mountain bikes but everyone is polite .great view at the top
Awesome downhill trail for mountain bikes. I would recommend taking Buckhorn trail up to the top of the mountain, and Capt Jacks down due to the volume of bikers riding down.
This place is so beautiful! You feel like theres no stress and/or cares in the world when sitting and just looking at the view right ahead of you! 10/10
Fun trail
Great trail for mountain and dirt bikers. As for hikers, yes it’s open to hikers, however I would recommend a more scenic & enjoyable trail like Seven Bridges. Leave Captain Jacks for those on two wheels for a more enjoyable experience for all.
Amazing. I went up the trail to the left thru the tunnel. The steepness is not so steep it just made me want to keep going. I went from one parking lot to the next. Riding back down was a blast. The view is great.
The road and parking lot is very busy, but the trails are a lot of fun, and usually not to congested!
I love hiking here. Youll encounter a lot of great views and a lot of friendly people. The only issue is to watch out for some of the more snobby bikers that act like the trail is for them only. Most people are respectful of each other, but there are a few who dont play well with others.
A total blast. Best to ride down.
Captain Jacks is an awesome downhill mountain biking trail. Also great for dirt bikers when ever its warm outside. Its almost more popular for hikers than mountain bikers. HIKERS USE EXTREME CAUTION... watch out for mountain bikers and dirt bikers.
Beautiful place to go for hiking, views, picnics and more.
This is a terrible place to start a hike. The trail is all blown out by motorcycles and mountain biking. Theres no creeks or water and its very popular for fast downhill mountain biking. For this reason, its not a safe place to take young children or seniors. Much better hiking trails are 7 Bridges, Palmer Red Rock loop, Saint Marys falls, red rocks open space, etc.
Captain Jacks is the best single track close to colorado springs. Amazing views
The trails are very well-marked. People were friendly. There was a Port-A-Potty at the trailhead. Beautiful views. Challenging trails.
Smooth trail. Great for the whole fam.
Great trail but not a place I would bring dogs or small children, this is a more advanced trail with a lot of traffic so look ahead and keep eyes and ears open!
Great place to park for a few, or get out and hike for awhile. Not too far out of town but feels like you got away for a little while. Less a****les per square mile and thats always a good thing...
Best for two-wheels, not two legs.
Great place to spend a Friday night. Entertaining bunches of people, but certainly places you can keep to yourself.Great views, maintained roads. The tunnels are quite a bit of fun
Super awesome trail for dirt bikes (moto) and mountain bikes. Hikers are best going to other nearby trails as captain Jackson will be mostly bikes
If youre not use to climbing, it can be a challenge. Great views
Goin up the Pipeline - oh yeah!
This trail is a classic for the MTB community in Colorado Springs. It is fast, loose and challenging. If you are not from here, it does take a bit of getting used to the loose pea sized gravel, but it is part of what makes this trail fun and unique.A note for hikers... while there are many people that hike it, the trail does not really offer any special attractions or rewards to hikers. There are no great views unless you get to the very top of the buckhorn climb, is too loose and narrow single-track.This trail was originally created by dirt bike riders and is now heavily used by downhill bike riders. I would recommend to hikers not to go in this trail, just because of the dangerous possibility of a crash. If you want a challenge with descent reward, climb up the buckhorn side and descend via High drive road or go in 7 bridges, Marys, Jones, those trails offer a more pleasant hiking experience with less danger.Enjoy!
Beautiful
Great views, less crowded than Seven Bridges, not too strenuous. Very popular for dogs and mountain biking.
Great hiking, but more of a motor / mountain bike area.
So many different trails with beautiful views from every direction! The visitors center is lots of fun, and if you love humming birds this is the place in the spring!
Dirt bike mountain bike even hiking cant go wrong epic views that u have to work for
Wonderful views, Easy access. People are utilizing the trail for mountain bikes so please be careful.
Always loved this spot.
Great dirtbiking but pretty technical riding
Great trail, keep an eye out for bike traffic.
Easy to get to from the city. Waterfalls, streams and plenty of fresh Colorado air.
Great views. Trail well marked. Very clean
Has had some erosion. A bit noisy with motorcycles
Its beutiful and fun hiking
Great place to go and get away...

Good place to go hiking!
Allot of traffic
Beautiful, quiet, and peaceful. Ideal for a couples day out.
Well maintained.
Best downhill mountain biking run in Co Springs.
Gold Camp road is partially paved, a of 6-6-16, a high clearance vehicle was not necessary. Road had a few hole but the scenery is outstanding.
A long hike but awesome view
Breathtaking scenery
