Great venue. But their security may need to develop a bit more people skills. Theyre quite unapproachable when theres an issue at hand, without them assuming you had something to do with said issue.Opinion isnt based on 1st person experience, but I have had others accompany me for an event and had the issue.

This theater has super potential to me one of the best Chicago venues. The sound quality is decent, could be better, but it might just be outdated sound system. The place does need a little spit shine. The space is huuuuuge! I look forward to see where they go with the theater.

Staff was fantastic! Security called outside for VIPs to head the line, were very friendly in getting people scanned in (if you forget your paper ticket, bring up the pdf on your smartphone, and that works well), and our bartender was very sweet and fast (though drinks were expensive! $8 for a 6oz rum and coke!).However, the place has a ton of downsides. It feels cobbled together, especially between the lobby, bathrooms, and seating. There was no assigned seating, and surprisingly, no heat in the building. Theater fog was thick when we entered (doors at 7pm), and the concert didnt start until 8:30!!Once the main act was preparing for the stage, most people stood, and moved up to the edge of the stage (there was more than enough seating for all attending). Why is standing at a seated concert a thing, anyway?Restroom facilities were lacking, with the exception of the toilet paper. The stalls were extra small, and haphazardly placed. Sink water was freezing cold. Plenty of paper towels, but with no heat, tough to get warm again.Unless the act is phenomenal, I will not be returning. Of course, they may be renovating, so if they update the venue, it may be a nice place! Subway is nearby, walking distance from Mayfair station or Irving Park station, and other awesome food options between train and theater.Hope the description helps!

Just went to see Doug Stanhope. There was absolutely no heat in this place. Everybody continued to wear their jackets, hats, scarves, etc. Its November in chicago....heat is a good thing. The bathrooms made the lack of heat a minor inconvenience. Ive seen gas station bathrooms a thousand times more sanitary then these. DISGUSTING!Never again.

Wonderfully restored classic theater in Chicago, renowned for showing silent films with live musical accompaniment, just as they did before the Talkies! It is also common to see themed film festivals, such as a monster film fest before Halloween, and even the occasional concert. I still remember the comfortable, relaxed atmosphere of the Jane Birkin show I caught here a couple of years ago. An indoor farmers market is also held here once a month during winter.

I had a ladies night out with my friends for my birthday and I must say this was the worst night ever. The Portage Theater was hotter then hot no air conditioning just fans with the doors opened, it was nasty and the bathroom was discussing, everything about this place was unprofessional and the show was awful. We left after45 minutes into the show. They really need to put some work into this place and until they do, this theater Needs to be shut down!!!!

The gorgeous old Portage Theater was almost a memory, it had faded into creepiness a decade ago, but its struggled back to be a vital and fantastic part of the movie-lovers landscape in the region. Silent films, sci-fi, horror marathons, film buff heaven in beautiful Portage Park.

Do I even have to give it one star? Because this place deserves zero. Went there for concert...freezing cold in there-heat was not even on! It felt warmer outside. Couldnt even really enjoy concert....chills the whole time. Second-doors were suppose to open at 7,didnt open till 7:45. Third-too many opening lical acts, there were about 8 acts, then about 30 minutes of hype men. Fourth-how you going to not have hennessy? And then run out of other liquor. Fifth-exe money for front row is a joke. You can pay less and be steps away. We would never go here again.

Can definitely see the age of this place. Went to a concert here, great sound and nice employees but the place was old and I cant say it was well kept as the restrooms were ridiculous. In any event, my main issue was the lack of attention paid to wheelchair patrons. We were ushered to general admission where ppl were falling all over my brother and just in his way. Imo, there needs to be more effort and thought into wheelchair patrons. There should be a section or area where they too can enjoy a show they paid for without fighting off fellow concert goers from falling in their laps, on their legs, or damn near knocking them out of their chair. Theyd like to enjoy their concert in peace as everyone else and also be able to see it in a safe environment and have fun. We could have purchased a table at the front but luckily we didnt as they didnt look too great (kind of old). We have been to places in general admission areas (ex. HOB) where the experience was of no comparison. Even if there was an upcharge to be in some area for wheelchairs, we would have paid it not to be dead in the middle of a crowd of ppl who were enjoying themselves (as they should) but also falling all over my brother. We ended up in the very back of the theater against a wall, not in the very front seeing the artist close up as expected in general admission. All in all, we ended up enjoying the concert but extremely disappointed in the overall experience and have no intention of returning. I do urge you to look into better accommodations for wheelchair patrons.

Came to a Comedy play Today July 23rd. Hijas de su Madre. The play was good, great time but on a day with 90 degrees the theater had no AC. Everyone was hot sweating and fanning themselves with fliers. There were two open doors with fans blowing in. Maybe they could charge $5 more to turn the AC on.

No air conditioner, the place does not smell clean at all and it is hot as hell. I came to see grupo niche and they have a vip (cost 250 + Ticket 35) are which includes a bottle of whiskey and 2 fan to cool down the area and not dance area. Soooo you pay to see and dance too no only to watch the artist singing. For the regular ($35) is ok you can not ask to much because the price, but how is possible that they only had 1 fan for the entire area which is almost yhe entire theater. Please production companies at least for summer Events be considered and fix the air conditioner or buy more fans. The event was promoted/organized by Jo productions , Arvez production and Gmw entertainment.

I can say some of the music was good. But I paid to see a disco jam show not to hear house music or freestyle music. Show was suppose to start at 9 its almost midnight and no disco singers yet. Saw WWE NXT here in mid January. Building had no heat, and it must have been around freezing in the theater. No ticket takers to be found, and no ushers, so despite them selling different seats for different prices, everyone was just walking right in and sitting wherever they felt like. Theater staff didnt seem interested in helping anyone with ticket/seat disputes. On top of that, the theater was greatly oversold, leaving dozens of people who paid for seats stuck standing around the walls for the whole show.
