Beautiful and inspiring! Personally, these gorgeous cemeteries always remind me of the debt I owe to all those buried there. Without them, our lives would be drastically different. Their resting place should be beautiful and should promote respect and reverence. This cemetery captures the very essence of those feelings. Great place to go pay your respect and beautiful to photograph as well.

Its very large and quiet. If you take the time to walk through, read, and consider then youll likely find it very touching. Its also very well kept.

The countrys first Medal of Honor recipients are buried here; the Andrews Raiders of civil war fame (The Great Locomotive Chase) Also the gravesite of Desmond Doss the first conscientious objector to receive the Medal of Honor for actions above and beyond the call of duty. Nice detour off the beaten path

This is an open to the public National Cemetery for members of United States of America military and should be taking with reverence for the military members themselves and for their families. Please dont abuse this beautiful cemetery or what it stands for, if you want to go to a quiet place to take glamor shots or a creepy cemetery on Halloween etc. go find somewhere else, dont be tacky and disgrace the memory of our fallen comrades in arms. I say all this as a military veteran myself and with hopes that you will fallow my lead with the respect Ive used in asking you to not abuse our beautiful site. Thank you.

Cemetery is well kept and there is plenty of road access through the site. There is a basic loop that has parking parking as well as short spurs to go up the hill in the middle. The roadways are wide enough that a vehicle can easily pass another stopped car.

I arrived 20 minutes before the family procession arrived at the cemetery. When i parked staff told me that i could not park there. I told them ok but asked who they were waiting for? He said for Paul Norman. I responded & said that was who we were waiting for. At 12:02 pm the family procession passed by then the person we talked followed famiy. I thought the family were going to the area that we were at but they did not. About 15 minutes passed, we heard a loud boom. That we the 21 gun saluate that was in my Uncles honor. I moved to where i heard the noise i saw the man that told us that we couldnt park there & the rest of the family. I couldnt believe it that your staff wouldnt inform us about where to go. I lonely saw 4 minutes of the of the service.

In 2006 Desmond Doss made Chattanooga National Cemetery his resting place. The man who saved 75 lives in WW2 and took 0 lives with a gun. Hacksaw Ridge was defeated by God and Doss, Amen.

On may 8th we buried my brother kenneth at chattanooga national cemetery . i have two other brothers and a father buried there. It seems they have lost touch with respect for the fallen men and women.Instead of the final resting place it is a race to the grave. Our experience was horrible. The representative from the cemetery tugged on our pastors shirt sleeve in the middle of a sentence, absolutely blowing his concentration. My nephew and I were going to speak over my brothers body but he was whisked away at the cemetery directors request before we could.there was never a mention of a 30 minute time limit to the pastor or family.I am writing this to hopefully get some resolve so this doesnt happen to the family behind us.

Came to find my great great grandfathers grave. The folks in the office were wonderful. Its an old Civil War gravesite and while they couldnt tell where the exact site was, they could easily identify the location of section P and the road to get there. After a little sleuthing I found a section number close to what I was looking for. Counting down I found the right row and then after some more counting I came right to the marker. Et voila, E. Wilkinson, G Company, 26 Illinois Infantry 13 March 1864).The cemetery itself is a reminder that this is perhaps the best example of the way our military members deserve to be treated. I sensed great respect and dignity with an honest desire to honor our nations fallen service members. Thanks Chattanooga Naional Cemetery and thank you Dept of Veterans Affairs. My only issue with the whole excursion today is that the address of the cemetery is officially 1200 Bailey Ave but the only entrance is around the corner on Holtzclaw. It wasnt a show stopper by any stretch of the imagination but following my GPS to a previously unknown location didnt get us to the entrance. Again, it wasnt a real problem, just a perplexing inconvenience that was quickly resolved.Dale Durnell, SMSgt, USAFRet (1964-1991)
