We had the best experience here - Bill offered so much knowledge and insight into the wines, and gave us great information behind the different French wines they also make! Mr. Shaps is behind a lot of Virginia’s delicious wines, and that holds true for these at his tasting room as well. We look forward to enjoying the wine we brought home and look forward to returning soon!

The most tasty, unique, well structured wines around. We loved the tastings and the extremely friendly staff. Joined the wine club - why? Do a tasting with Ivy, Trisha and/or Kevin and find out. Every visit is a great experience, thanks MSW!!

Michael Shaps makes great wine for alot of VA Wineries

Great experience! Aside from the Michael Shaps renown wines you will find a highly knowledgeable staff who will make sure your visit is impressive. The wines are top notch but have enough difference from his other wineries (or at least ones he is a wine maker at) to set the Wineworks as a unique visit. If you’re headed to Charlottesville definitely stop in!

Monticello Appellation Wine Tours loves to visit Michael Shaps Wineworks south of town, as well as his Wineworks Extended tasting room. Tour guests love the fine wines, ready-to-drink everyday boxed wines, and the ability to fill their own growlers. Wonderful example of some of the best wines around!

This was the best tasting of the weekend. Staff are extremely knowledgeable about the process and what exactly is going on in the winery now. The wi e is top notch as well

Staff are knowledgeable. Didnt feel rushed. Tasting room very inviting. These are some of the best wines in the area and reasonably priced. Off the beaten path but well worth the trip.

Dani did the wine tasting of wines by Maison Shaps from Meursault France - 1 white, 2 reds. Dan did the tastings from Michael Shaps from Virgina - 3 whites, 3 reds. This was a small tasting room with no view. Dan found the wines unique, unusual in blend; worthwhile to taste, yet not our palate for purchase. There is a small area for enjoying a glass outside with a little view of the vineyard.

Small tasting room but very nice and inviting. The wines were fantastic and the staff was super helpful. Definitely should be on everyones wine tasting list for the region!

Michael shaps was unique in that you could try wines from either the French region, where he keeps a winery, or from here in Virginia. The wines were good, but they were nothing groundbreaking, and while we enjoyed our tasting, we did not leave with any bottles. To some extent it seemed as though he was trying too hard to avoid the sweet wines, which many of the Virginia grapes make easily, and was too focused on paralleling the Bordeaux region. Overall it was not our favorite stop on the tour, but it was a nice stop and probably would be better for those who have more experience with the French Wines.

All of the wineries in this area have a very real feel. You can see the vineyards all around at all of the wineries I like to visit. Some operations are very heavily geared toward the general public and tasting afternoons. Wineworks has not polished up the patios yet, this is very much the working winery. For me it adds to the experience. The wines are great -- the only boxed wine I allow in my fridge!

Most unique and elegant wines in the entire state. The use of non-conventional methods really earns non-conventional results. Beautiful wines and a beautiful vineyard thats so quiet you can hear the fermentation.

Fun! A working wineshop where you taste in the barrel room. The wines are good, plus its a fun time to work with the actual winemakers. Very laid back , generous pours, we always buy a few bottles to take back home. A great find, we were glad to have stumbled onto it.

We visited five Charlottesville wineries today and I thought this was the best in terms of quality of wine. Not the great vistas but excellent wine and knowledgeable and friendly staff.

We love Virginia Wineworks! If youre lucky youll see some winemaking action. This is more a working winery than a tourist trap tasting room. We love tasting in the barrel room too! They are building a tasting room now, and Im not sure that I wont miss tasting in the barrel room more!!!!

Great place to do a tasting in town! Will be regular customers. Very intelligent and polite staff.

The red wine is AMAZING. Hidden back in the woods, but well worth the adventure! You can find their wine in local stores.

Wine was great , the service beware! Due to size of the tasting party, our server tried to up charge the tasting cost to $15 ea from the printed $10 ea per tasting. Totally unprofessional attitude!

This place is a working winery, no gift shop here. Tastings here are authentic and awesome!
