I have sympathy for the homeless, but this was on another level. Constantly hit up for money. One guy asked for change after I saw him on his iphone. I had to almost force another guy away from my wife when he started to get aggressive. My wife and I love visiting Charlottesville, but we probably wont be visiting the downtown mall again anytime soon.

Pedestrian street with no cars allowed. Brick paved and lined by historical buildings of shops and restaurants. A go-to spot in Cville. Went walking down here on a Sunday night and most everything was closed. Not as clean as it used to be. Just looks like a ghost town right now.

I did not enjoy our Friday evening trip to the downtown mall. I’d never been and was looking forward to exploring. There isn’t that much to look at. I was surprised by the lack of shopping. There are many, many, restaurants though. A lot of outdoor seating for dining and many people had dogs, some of which were happy to bark their heads off. Perhaps it was the noise pollution agitating them as every 10 feet there was someone with a guitar performing or someone set up just to blast music from big speakers. The biggest shock was the large number of homeless people mixed in. I saw at least 10, some whom had built themselves makeshift shelters in storefronts. All around them people are laughing and eating like nothing. It was very sad and it doesn’t seem like the city of Charlottesville is doing enough.

If are looking for a place to stroll and get away from home, then this is the place. Small but has many places and things to see. There are many restaurants with outside seating and to go potentials and dessert places that will make your day even sweeter. If you want to have a long walk then walk from Corner to downtown and then back. It is a nice daytime walking place. Nighttime I am not so sure shrugs*There are also places with hand sanitizers for you to use. Great placements!

I love this area for the multiple food places and shops as well as the walking around. Good exercise. I agree that there are homeless around here quite a bit and that is why I wont give it 5 stars. Several stores to go to. There is a little of everything here for anyone. Plenty of seating outside if you want to eat out there or just hang out. We saw several people doing both. Some places even have a water bowl outside for dogs. Go and enjoy yourself!

Beautiful place to roam and shop. Did not give 5 stars because some vendors dont put prices on their products because depending on who wants to buy they will give you outrageous quotes for an item.

Alright outdoor mall. Lot of local and independent stores. There are fountains and art scattered throughout and every restaurant appears to have an outdoor seating area. There are some good stores located on the side streets connected to the mall, not part of the main strip. Be sure to check those out as well.

My husband and I stopped in Charlottesville and ate at Millers. It was a quant restaurant and bar with shaded seating outside. The manager was very friendly and proud of his restaurant as he should have been. We had wonderful Bloody Marys that really hit the spot and then dined on fried green tomatoes over greens and a breakfast skillet that my husband described as over the top. Our server, Crystal was friendly, professional and very efficient. It was a wonderful way to spend a relaxing afternoon and we would highly recommend it and the mall in general.

Great shops as although I am always disappointed by how many are closed when we go on the weekend. Still enough open to spend an hour or so exploring. Our favorite pizza place (Christians) is there and we have been known to make the 45 minute drive to C-ville just for that. Last time we were there we saw a group of people getting questioned by a police officer, and generally higher police presence than usual.

The main reason for the low review is that the Downtown Mall is not a safe place. On multiple occasions I have witnessed aggressive and rude pan handling. Ive also seen guys urinating in plain view of anybody walking by. Charlottesville has regressed in many areas, public safety being front and center. If you have a family or if youre a single woman, I would advise you to go to Stonefield which is safer. Its a shame because there are nice restaurants on the Dtown Mall. Just not safe at the present moment.

We did enjoy ourselves, the downtown mall had changed so much in many ways since our first visit many ago. The general layout is the same, shops have changed hands in some cases. It still all remains wonderfully Charlottesville, with its artsy culture and diversity. While we would not retire to Charlottesville, (Colorado is the retirement plan) we would indeed love to visit again.

This place is so different depending on when you come. Mornings have a bunch of maintenance crews out watering flowers, commuters walking to work, homeless people sleeping, etc.Throughout the day it’s a great area to walk through and window shop. Many people are walking about, so people watching is a great activity. Sometimes there are buskers out performing, but they are typically out later in the afternoon into the evening. When more people are dining out for dinner. Lunch places have pretty decent specials, but check your favorite spot for their available hours as then don’t always have the same schedule during the week and may open later or be closed some days. The homeless population have become more aggressive in their begging and I have been approached and even interrupted by more than one. There is a homeless shelter just off the mall they could use as a resource. If you can avoid them, you will have a better time.

GREAT PEDESTRIAN MALL WITH SHOPPING AND RESTAURANTS. get some old fashioned pie and sandwiches at the old fashioned drug store soda shop with stools at the counter and a fireplace that they even light sometimes in the winter. Classic! Musicians on the street, everyone brings their dogs, open air restaurant seating, antique shops, specialty paper and clothing stores. I loved it and wandered up and down for hours. Could have gone back over and over again. Next time.
