This is the coolest little hidden gem of a public park in Charleston. Its a totally different and cool view of Charleston harbor from the James island side. Its called sunrise park by the locals, so sunrise must be the best time to view the city and Sullivans island from across the way.

We love it here. My fiancee and I visit every couple of weeks. She enjoys walking the beach to look for shark teeth and I just enjoy relaxing and enjoying the views. It never gets too crowded. Parking is a bit limited but weve only had a problem finding a place to park once. Usually there are spots. Its one of our favorite little places in Charleston and we bring all of our out-of-town visitors when we can.

One of my favorite spots in Charleston! Its tucked away and always seems like there are people here but it never feels crowded and I always find parking. Cute spot for a picnic or to dip your toes in the water without sitting in Folly traffic. Great views of the harbor and downtown.

A great place to relax and take in the harbor. Hidden away in a neighborhood and on the water where you cant hear the busy bussle of Charleston. It has a public restroom and small areas of beach for shark tooth hunting as well.

Melton Peter Demetre Park on Wampler Drive on James Island is a cool park that has great views of the Charleston harbor, a beach area with sand to get in the water or relax, a picnic area to have a picnic, a place to do fishing, and much more. I like the location of the park and how much of it overlooks the water. The park is well maintained and clean and well worth checking out on a nice day.

I like this place. Close by, never very busy, great for collecting shells and rocks, no real waves, great for toddlers, a real bathroom and drinking fountain, great view of downtown Charleston (the battery) and bridges to Mt. Pleasant, James Island and West Ashley from two places, one being a dock. Small wildlife signs on boardwalk to examine across from the yatch club. Picnic tables and benches near the downtown overlook.

Looking from the battery, I always wondered, what was on the other side of the river where I saw the piers. I always imagined the stunning view this strip of land must have, with a panorama of peninsula Sullivans island and fort Sumter. Today was the day I decided to find out :) I wondered off to the Demetre park, and everything I thought about the view happened to be true :)

We held a SC DNR Family Fishing Clinic here on March 14. The park is on James Island, off the tourist routes and offers a great view of downtown Charleston across the Ashley River. The little cove in the photo would’ve been an excellent spot if it weren’t for a 20+ mph East wind!

After driving winding streets through upscale neighborhoods you arrive at the park entrance. It has an automated gate that says it closes at 8:30 pm, parking and restrooms. There is a small beach, a boardwalk, small pier and dock plus an overlook for viewing downtown Charleston to Fort Sumter. Absolutely gorgeous view but prepare for gusty winds.

View of downtown, the harbor and bridge. Kinda small, but out of the way enough that it’s usually not too crowded. Small parking area, maybe 25 vehicles.Got a beach, pier and dock. I’ve launched kayaks from here and paddled out to different spots in the harbor. I’ve seen lots of fishermen along the beach, pier and out on boats. Have not seen a boat ramp here. They do have a small bath house and fresh water supply for hosing off and restrooms. A picnic shelter with two tables and a water fountain (with a pet access) is on the grounds. I brought a catering burner and made up some pork and taters, had a great meal after paddling and never was bothered by anyone.Have not seen complete shells on the beach, mostly broken and jagged, don’t know if this is a dredged beach. Does seem to get a lot of water/wave action, so maybe check after a storm. To get here you will be driving through neighborhoods on small and slow roads, keep and eye out for children, animals and big freaking trucks pulling boats( I think they are coming from James Island yacht club. )

Great place located at James Island right next to the yacht club. Picnic areas (covered) beach access as well as a cove tucked away. A nice pier with boat docking access. There is a small pond abundant with wildlife. There are public bathrooms. A quiet layed back setting for the whole family. Fishing is allowed with license. The kids can play on the beach and collect shells. There is a complete view of the battery as well as the city of charleston and the ravenell bridge. A pathway that goes from the front gate all the way through the park. Drinking fountains and even a fresh water well pump. Plenty of parking too. Hands down one of the nicest parks i have ever been to in my life.

Fantastic little park. If you arrive by sea you can take your dinghy to one of the floating docks and visit for awhile. There is a small restroom and a couple water fountains for you and your four legged friends. There is a sandy beach for lounging and a couple covered meeting areas to escape the sun or rain. There is always someone with a fishing line off the dock so give it a wide berth or your propeller may become tied up.Fantastic Park

I enjoy coming here, the views of the harbour, downtown, and the bridge are nice. I love watching the sailboats float by. I was disappointed to see part of the park was still blocked off for construction, its been months. I was annoyed that a grown woman (gray hair grown) went around the barriers and climbed down the rocks like the rules dont apply to her, and then I saw a very young boy climbing on the rocks and the parents didnt care, these people can ruin it for everyone. STAY OFF THE ROCKS!!

Ive been going here ever since we moved to James Island. In fact, the proximity to the park was one of the contributing factors in our decision to buy our house. The only problem is that a lot of people bring their dogs and dont have them on a leash. Otherwise, it is a great place.
