We booked a private carriage ride in a very cool carriage and rode through the very historic and picturesque city of Charleston. So many beautiful homes, landscaped gardens and charming streets. Our guide was very thoughtful in explaining as much as we wanted to know. This was a very special and worthwhile experience. Highly recommended.

A visit to Charleston should include a carriage tour of the city and well worth the $35 and the hour it takes to do it. You’ll get an overview of Charleston and a bit of history. The horses at Old South are well cared for and treated well. They are calm and steady. Your guide will introduce your horse to you and tell you about the breed. Our horse was Brian, a Belgian draft horse. Our guide was a novelist and native of the area. It’s a bit challenging to observe social distancing inside the stable but people seem to be doing a reasonable job wearing masks.

Our group of 9 chose a private tour. We were paired up with the Brians. Both the guide and the horse were super friendly. It was interesting to learn tidbits of history while we toured the area. It was also great that every staff person we encountered was knowledgeable, friendly, and knew each horse well. When not pulling carriages the horses relax at a nearby plantation. A large stable of horses ensures plenty of days off for each of them. I love that drivers anf horses are paired by the temperament and skill level of each. Brian was easily soothed by his driver Brians voice. Their mutual admiration and respect added to the pleasure of the morning stroll. If you are planning a trip to Charleston, book your tour here.

Would highly recommend doing a carriage tour with Old South Carriage Company! All staff members were friendly and our tour guide was animated and knowledgeable. He had a great sense of humor and made the history of Charleston so fun and interesting to learn about. Since the route is chosen on a lottery basis I would definitely do another carriage tour with this company if we visit again in the future in hopes that we get a different route each time!

The Old South Carriage Company tour was a special experience for the entire Ark Veterinary Team! We all enjoyed our VIP tour with Mike as he enthusiastically told us the history of Charleston. Our horse, Prince, was absolutely beautiful. We would like to thank the Old South Carriage Company for an awesome experience overall, and for helping us make our company Christmas photo one to remember!

I was a little skeptical with riding a carriage - animal rights are important - but it was a VERY well-maintained, well kept facility. The horses are HUMONGOUS. Easily trumping the other carriage companies’ offerings. The tour was insightful, I got some great photos and had a wonderful time.Certainly will visit again!!

The Old South Carriage company provides a true Charleston experience, to walk through the stables and watch how the horses are fed, watered and well taken care of is very impressive. We purchased tickets to the haunted carriage tour which was disappointing. Our guide was very friendly and amiable but the tour barely lasted 40 minutes and I’m not really quite sure we saw any actual haunted points of interest. Our guides stories were somewhat amusing but believe they were more “tall tales” than fact based. Fun, but not worth the money.

The carriage ride we took on October 20 was fun and that was due to Drake our driver. He would stop here and there on the route and tell us facts about different sites and about the owners. This is my first visit to the town and first carriage ride so double the first experiences and it was great! A city history tour and ghost stories. Our guide was excellent and knowledgeable, also funny. The horses were beautiful and can tell well cared for. You even get to pet the one who pulled your carriage after your ride. The carriage house as well was very nice and clean. We will definitely do it again when we visit.

My husband and I took the evening haunted ride with our one year old son. They went above and beyond to accommodate us having a small child and our son loved it! We had Elliot as a guide and sweet Sammy the horse who took us through the town. It was an amazing experience. Elliot really knew his stuff and seemed like he genuinely enjoyed telling us the stories. He even offered to give us a tour of the stables afterward. We let our baby pet Sammy the horse then enjoyed the gorgeous evening stroll back to our vehicle. This is hands down the best carriage ride company you’re going to find! I HIGHLY recommend taking a tour with them! We will be doing it each time we visit for sure!

Enjoyable experience, relaxing, fun narrative, only thing thats irritating is you cant pick the area visited, its a city run lottery system that designated the tour route AFTER you board and leave the stable area. So of the 4 routes, ours ended up being where we already had walked previously. Also the mask issue annoys in Charleston.

An enjoyable ride with Mike and Ron yesterday for the haunted evening carriage ride. We looked up several of the haunted places he mentioned and created our own walking graveyard tour that we did tonight! There is one I glass behind the driver to protect them.

Review №44

To start with, let me say that for more than an hour, I reviewed horse drawn carriage tours around Charleston.I chose OLD SOUTH CARRIAGE TOURS because they actually tour throughout the city for one solid hour. Read the tour info carefully, some say theyre an hour long historic horse drawn carriage tour but when you read through the itinerary, you may only be on the carriage portion of the tour for 15 mins to a half an hour.We took the 12:00 tour on 11/11/2020, Veterans Day. Even before our guide boarded the carriage, he acknowledged & thanked each and every Vet personally. KUDOS!There are 10 designated routes through the city & its the city who decides which route each & every horse drawn carriage tour goes down. Its good idea for traffic flow through the city & the people who reside on each of the routes. That being said, I was very curious at what level of knowledge & retention our guide would have on the route choosen for us. He absolutely, hands down, did not disappoint, (nor did our other guide, Mac(?) the horse). Our guide knew the history of Charleston inside and out, no matter what time period; from architecture, prominent families, governmental people, religious figures, to whether, earthquakes & so on. He knew it all! There was never a question, no matter how obscure, that stumped our guy. Trust me, I asked way more than my fair share of questions! With out doubt or hesitation, I would both take other tours, carriage or walking, & recommend:OLD SOUTH CARRIAGE TOURS!

Haunted Carriage Ride was a bust but I must comend their girl who called me minutes before our scheduled tour to confirm we were still going to ride as we were running late due to reserved pedi cabs not showing up to get the 6 of us. We took the 9:30pm ride with Mike S and he was ready to be done for the night. He tried to be funny but did not engage with the carriage riders except for asking where we were from. Since we were local I asked if the night rides were still subject to the lottery of routes and he quickly shut me down with a No, thats not required. I have been on at least 5 carriage rides with another company and can say that we would probably not return as the tour provided was barely haunted, amusing or entertaining.
