Very cool and historical place for boat lovers! We had visited to decide if we wanted to use it for a rehearsal dinner and its basically a warehouse/large garage with boats in it. Pretty rough for a wedding rehearsal dinner. Otherwise a cool place.

If you even the slightest bit nostalgic for the classic boats this is a place that will feed your soul. A must see for any classic boat enthusiast, Americas Cup fan or especially a lover of Herreshoffs artistry. The yachting history and advancements that were made here changed the course of yacht design.Make sure you poke around the boat building areas across the street.Dont miss the massive model of Reliance as well!!!

The Herreshoff Marine Museum, located in Bristol, Rhode Island, USA, is a maritime museum dedicated to the history of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company, yachting, and the Americas Cup. The Herreshoff Manufacturing Company (1878–1945) was most notable for producing sailing yachts, including eight Americas Cup defenders, and steam-powered vessels. The museum, situated near Narragansett Bay on the grounds where the manufacturing company once stood, has a collection of over sixty boats including Nathanael Greene Herreshoffs Clara, built in 1887, Harold Vanderbilts Trivia, and the 1992 IACC yacht, Defiant. The Nathanael Greene Herreshoff Model Room contains over 500 yacht and steam yacht models and the Rebecca Chase Herreshoff Library holds a collection of books and manuscripts related to the company, the Herreshoff family, and yachting. The museum also hosts symposia related to yacht design and operates a sailing school. The museum was founded in 1971 by A. Sidney DeWolf Herreshoff and Rebecca Chase Herreshoff to preserve the accomplishments of the Herreshoff Manufacturing Company. In 1992, founded by Halsey Chase Herreshoff and Edward duMoulin, the museum launched the Americas Cup Hall of Fame to honor outstanding individuals of the Americas Cup yacht race.Among other works, the company built Doris (Sailing yacht), which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.

We purchased tickets for their viewing party to see the Bristol, RI Independence Day Parade, the oldest in the nation. It was amazing! The provided covered seating, copious bottled water, breakfast and lunch, and toys for the kids (we have 2). The best part was the staff; they dont have diaper changing stations in their bathrooms, so they put a foam pad and sheets on a sturdy table in the conference room and even provided wipes! The staff were so friendly, thoughtful, and welcoming. It was just a fantastic experience, and we look forward to going back for more events.

We stumbled upon the Herreshoff Marine Museum after searching high and low for a venue that wouldnt feel like a typical wedding setting. Upon meeting their events manager, Elsie, we nearly signed the contract on the spot. Elsie was such a joy to work with during the six months that we planned our day. We didnt have a coordinator, so Elsie helped us with a lot more than she needed to and we couldnt have been more grateful to her for that. I trusted her immensely and followed her advice whenever she suggested something because shes overseen dozens of events here. The spaces at the Herreshoff are very flexible for whatever kind of day youre planning. We ended up having a colder day in October, so the morning of our wedding, we decided to move our ceremony inside to the Hall of Boats instead of getting married out on the dock. We then had our cocktail hour and reception inside the tent and we couldnt be happier with how everything turned out. The Herreshoff asks that you work with one of their preferred catering vendors (which I honestly welcomed, since vetting vendors was sometimes the hardest part of planning), but really lets you work with whatever other vendors youd like. Im not the most creative person, so we really didnt do anything to the space and it turned out beautiful. With that being said, if youre looking for a blank canvas, the Herreshoff can absolutely be that as well! All in all, were so happy that we found Elsie and the Herreshoff.

Great indoor museum with history of both Herreshoff boat building and Americas Cup. Can walk through museum boats displayed inside. Also, we have sailed here twice, grabbed a mooring for minimal cost and have easy walking access into Bristol within 15-20 minutes.

We really went there to learn more about Americas Cup sailing its a subject that I am just now becoming familiar with since I live on a sailboat. Learning about Captain Nat and his blind Brother John building this fabulous company was very unexpected. Very enjoyable day walking through the museum and getting so much information. Look for our video on this day on YouTube SV JUS DREAMING

A nice little museum, with a great view of the water.Came here for a wedding, so the museum was not the primary focus, but it was a nice place to visit before the ceremony. You have to be more of a sailing enthusiast to fully appreciate it (not me or my wife), but it was interesting to learn the history of the Herreshoff company and ship building in general. As a wedding venue, we had perfect weather so it was excellent. The tent is a bit exposed, so for weather that is less-than-perfect (rain or cold) I imagine it would not be very pleasant.

Absolutely amazing history of competitive sailing and Americas Cup. Many boats on display with exceptional craftsmanship, and an educational program where you can learn to sail on 100 year old boats! A true RI gem.

Great little museum. This Museum focuses on sale boats and specifically competition within the Americas Cup. They have an entire wall devoted towards Ted Turner. Some of the ships are over a hundred years old and they run sailing classes out of this location. Great place to network with individuals who are sailing aficionados.

Not only are the boats beautiful and interesting, the staff could not be nicer or more informative. Ask questions! Youll get thoughtful answers about this most unusual place. How did a company in little Bristol, RI, build boats so fast they beat nearly every other comparable racing boat in the world,, including those of super-rich owners, like Sir Lipton (of tea fame) and the British king? What made the wizard of Bristol, Nathaniel Herreshoff, and his blind brother so successful? Its all here.
