Honestly, what can be better than Fraser Springs. Ever since its discovery in the early 1800s by the Shaolin monk Kwai Chang Caine in a misguided attempt to find the headwaters of the mighty Nishnabotna, people have known of the waters mystical powers. Early Ioway indians were so impressed with the water, they slaughtered dozens of chinese and irish railroad workers building the Boone Scenic Valley Railroad in an effort to protect it.Adolph Coors actually offered the Iowa the equivalent of $100,000 for the rights to the water, but they drove him off as well and chased him all the way to the Colorado Territory.Once a year in late September, the town of Fraser, being mostly descendants of ancient druids that tagged along with the vikings, hold bathing rituals at the site to cleanse themselves and prepare for the fall harvest. Rumors of ritual sacrifice have never been confirmed, but obviously in a small town such things are not spoken of openly. The best time to visit is late July, the lines will be a bit long, but they usually bring in extra porta potties. Please note, the site is closed from June 23rd to 24th from sunrise through sunset in order to give nesting velociraptors quiet time.
