A nice simple park with many opportunities for gopher tortoise sightings. Remember they are a protected species- no touching or interfering with them in anyway.

It reminded me of my childhood. It was isolated and I thought of the tattooed from head to foot natives whose whole tribes were wiped out by Spanish flu before the arrival of the foreign creeks...so pleasant palmetto......

Nice little hidden spot by the highway. Very nice trail. It doesnt have much shade, but sometimes that can be refreshing.

What is with all these dumb reviews on here? No they should not mulch over the amazing soft sugar sand. No there should not be food concessions. This is a nature preserve....exactly how it was in old Florida, and should remain just as it is. SMH

I didnt get it. Maybe its because its the wrong season, but all we thought we saw were weeds and bushes, nothing exotic and nothing interesting. We have neighbors with better landscaping and more interesting foliage than we saw in this Reserve. Im being generous with the two stars, but at least it was free, and a pleasant walk.

This trail feels deserted. You can hear the i95 traffic as you walk the trails. It was nice to get a good walk in with the baby but there is little to no shade as the trees are mostly less than 10ft. We were not fortunate enough to see any wildlife (birds, turtles, critters, etc) It is free and a good comfortable distance path so Ill give it 2 stars. This is definitely a 1 time go only. (If that)

Enjoy the natural preservation of the surroundings for all to enjoy. Have come across ground tortoises, owls, hawks, various non venomous snakes to name a few of the creatures, thriving in this preserve. Thank you Boca.

Not really your typical idea of reserve to be fair, really noisy between the train tracks and the highway and not much to see but ok for a walk.

Nice nature park, but the city is cutting everything down. Will end up ruining a small piece of old FloridaA shame

If you like a long trail with nothing to look at this is the place to go. Can you imagine I found only one bench in the whole park. Place had no water or food stands too. I had to bring my own lunch and had no where to put my garbage so I hid it in a tree. I also lost my wallet while I was in the park and had to leave when it got dark before finding it. If anyone finds it let me know.

Lots of trash on the ground, and part of the walking path is overgrown and you cant walk through it.

If youre visiting Boca Raton, Sugar Sand Park is a great stop to make, however for a more exercise oriented experience the Blazing Trail preserve allows you to experience the nature without interruption. Due to recent storms the trees are not at their best however, but still a fun 30 to 45 minute walk. (Recommended Attire: Shoes with high socks, shorts, white or light T-shirt, sunscreen and a hat.) Bring water!

You can hardly call this a preserve. Its right next to I-95 so its poisoned with noise pollution. There are visible cable and telephone wires all throughout the trails. And to top it off its no dogs allowed which is ridiculous because the preserve is already in such poor condition it wouldnt really matter if dogs were allowed or not. Just a horrible experience. I would not recommend especially if you are truly trying to go for a peaceful trail walk.

Blazing Star is 26 acres of scrub pine with a mile loop running on top of sugar sand. It is adjacent to the much larger Sugar Sand Park. This area was once part of the Atlantic Coastal Ridge, ancient dunes that lined the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the trail runs along I-95 and in addition to the cars you may hear the occasional train racing past.Plants you might encounter include sand live oaks, myrtle oak, Chapman oak, saw palmetto, slash pine, sand pine, bromeliad, prickly pear cactus, marsh ferns and cinnamon ferns and the invasive Brazilian pepper. When I came upon the pink and yellow lantana growing in the back of the preserve it was covered in zebra longwing butterflies. If you want to see the blazing star (Liatris), with its stalks of purple flowers that the area takes its name from you will have to plan your visit for late summer and early fall.If you are lucky you will see protected gopher tortoises. All I came upon however was a burrow. As you make your way through the preserve you will be serenaded by cicadas and crickets. This is a pretty isolate spot, especially when you get to the back of the preserve. Unlike a lot of other preserves I have visited this one is not paved so it is not wheelchair accessible. It was actually quite hard to even walk in the back but when I came upon a hundred butterflies floating around the plants it made the muddy sneakers and trek worth it. You have to be slow and quiet to fully appreciate this area but once you focus in a lot of surprises await you.

It takes a special kind of person to go to a nature preserve, complain they dont have benches or serve food then admit to litering in a tree because you were too lazy to carry it. What you were looking for is a McDonalds, not sure why you came to this nice peaceful spot.
