I strongly encourage to visit this place once it reopens. This is a rehabilitation center for sea turtles. The volunteers are knowledgeable and happy to answer questions. They run small show, where they explain about the different turtles, how they got injured , and when they are expected to be released. Do not miss out on the aquariums they have on site and the board walk. They have free Parking onsite.

I have been here a number of times throughout my life and will continue to return. It’s a nice small place that is a go to destination around this area. It’s a nice place to see the cute animals. The set up of the place is attractive, and great and friendly staff. Gumbo Limbo has a great mission and they continue with it well. The area of Boca Raton is nice, it’s a great town. The location has easy access parking and it’s easy to get to. I recommend Gumbo Limbo, if you haven’t been there yet, you should visit!

Excellent conversation center focused on local ecology, especially in understanding and aiding Sea Turtles.Pretty amazing to see all of the different hatchery rooms and rehabilitation rooms and all of the hard work that goes into it.Great boardwalks meander through forest-like areas. And eventually lead to an open area with beautiful views (photos).Cool aquarium in the entrance building as well as a fun gift shop. Useful poster on Florida’s venomous snakes for anyone interested!

If you haven’t been here yet, MAKE IT A POINT TO GO. It’s beautiful and so well maintained and the staff are amazing! What this place stands for creates the hope we need in humanity. There’s a donation of $5 per person requested upon entrance which goes to maintaining everything. There’s trails, a gift shop, you can see where the turtles are being rehabilitated, there’s a bunch of other fish too! It’s so nice that places like this exist because zoos are completely inappropriate and I believe unless the animals are hurt or in danger or endangered, they should be in their natural habitats! A great place for kids, and even some adults to learn how bad plastics are for not only the ocean but life as well.

10-09-2020 Gumbo Limbo remains CLOSED to the public due to COVID. Although Google shows it is open, call first to verify. It is a fantastic facility aimed at Sea Turtle and marinelife rehabilitation, with top-notch volunteers and staff that love to educate visitors about the varieties of sea Turtles under their care. Make sure to visit once they reopen! (The boardwalk remains open with parking south of the facility... Signs direct you to parking) A nice view of the intercoastal at the west end.

This is a fantastic place to go to and to enjoy some amazing aquatic setups. They have a really interesting turtle talk. They also have gopher turtles roaming a large section. The gift shop is very nice. They are currently working on the boardwalk that goes to the north side. It seems as though they will be done in under a year. The FAU research section is quite the sight to see.

This place was really neat. Its free which is very cool. You can donate money if you would like. They have about 4 big aquariums. What was also cool, they had people next to the different viewing areas to explain different types of fish or how the water is fed into the tank, etc. That was educational which we appreciated. Also the butterfly garden was great to explore and as you follow a trail past the garden you are led to a small beach or inlet where we saw a manatee. Overall we had a great visit.

The last time I had visited here was over 15 years ago, so it was a treat to take my children to a place I enjoyed on school trips! Very educational place, and the lessons they teach about the animals and their importance to our fragile ego system was great for our 4 year old! My 2 year old just loved the 2 large aquariums and the Sea Turtle Rehabilitation tanks. The people here and kind and very knowledgeable, and I appreciate their willingness to teach and answer questions. They have a beautiful butterfly garden, but these days it’s a bit too got to spend a lot of time there, the kids did not enjoy the heat. Most of this place is outside, and I’m thinking of trying again end of the year when it’s a bit cooler. My fav part was the Boardwalk from the parking lot next door to the Center, it’s a beautiful walk in nature, and I got a ton of pics. But you don’t need to park there to walk it!Notes: overflow parking next door is not free, it’s pay by hour. Also, it’s $5 donation to visit here and I highly suggest paying as the proceeds help this wonderful place keep going, as well as help it’s Animal residents cared for. Bring Water/Snacks/Comfy Shoes too!

Hello, if you have a rental car and don’t mind driving up to Boca Raton their is a great nature center featuring sea turtles. It’s called Gumbo Limbo and they rescue and rehab wild sea turtles . My wife and I truly admire the work they are doing for these injured turtles. You can spend a few hours touring the center and see what their doing. Admission is by donation which supports the work going on. Definitely worth the trip.

The Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a fun place to take the family. This place should get an extra star for the good they do in saving Sea Turtles. Highly educational in the world of the ocean especially with Sea Turtle preservation, this place is one not to miss. I enjoyed the feeding of the fish and turtles in the two large deep aquariums and the two large shallow tanks. The facilities are very nice and the nature trail is something to enjoy. I like the education on Turtle lighting and found out that there are 7 types of Sea Turtles and the Florida waters are home to 6 of them. Bet you didn’t know that. If so, you listened better than me in oceanography class. The gift shop is small, but has all the typical Florida stuff and the full size turtle statues out front are fun for a photo opportunity and the kids love to play on them. I will be back...

This is a little gem in South Florida. It has a gift store, fish tanks, and rehab facility right on site. It also includes a butterfly garden that is outside and full of butterfly-friendly plants. During the summer, it can be quite hot so wear cool clothes. Especially in the butterfly garden, where there is very little breeze which the butterflies dont like. You can also go into the rehabilitation area, which is more like a hospital, and see some of the turtles that they have rescued and are in the process of rehabilitating. In the fish tanks you can see all sorts of things including moray eel, Florida lobster, Stingray, barracuda, angelfish, and tarpon. Theres a reef tank, and also a shipwreck tank, which they use for educational purposes. At 12:30 p.m. every day they feed turtles and fish and talk about them so it is very useful. And at 2:30, theres a turtle talk. Its free, but you really should think about donating more than what they ask because they dont ask for very much.

Perfect place for some nature indulgence and get away from the noisy streets of Boca Raton. Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is a Environmental Complex. With a total of twenty acres, this protected barrier island is in the area between the Intracoastal and the Atlantic Ocean. It is on land which is part of the beachfront-to-intracoastal Red Reef Park, though Gumbo Limbo does not have land directly on the beach, but does have Intracoastal Waterway frontage. Gumbo Limbo is best known for its involvement with protecting sea turtles. Boca Raton Sea Turtle Conservation and Research Program at Gumbo Limbo Nature Center is located in the nature center and has Marine Conservationists and Marine Sea Turtle Specialists that monitor, record, and study the sea turtle activity on the five miles of Boca Ratons city beach. There is an aquarium for the family and kids to look at and interact with, along with a public gallery that is open for visitors to view the facility. During the summer and fall sea turtle hatchlings can be viewed. Students are often working in the building and are happy to talk to visitors in the gallery. When you are done with the nature center, youd want to check out the butterfly garden outside, long with a hiking trail that takes you throughout the preserve. They have an observation tower that we went on before it closed, but at the moment they are in the middle of a maintenance project for the tower and wont be open until fall 2017. I recommend this place for anyone who enjoys the outdoors, nature and REAL FLORIDA!
