They have cleaned up the park and I feel like they are doing great about controlling the clean up of homeless people

Stopped by for the Salmon run. Got to see some seal, tons of spawning salmon, and lots of excited people!!

Fun to see Salmon run in the fall. Homelessness in the area makes the place feel unsafe... Even in the middle of the day.

The steps seem like a good place to sit for a bit. I couldnt stay long in the grass due to bugs & litter. Fine to walk around, but small for that.

Really cute park year round and the salmon swim up the creek. Its unfortunate how many people without homes are there though, very sad.

A true gem in the middle of the city. We found this by accident but glad we did. Beautiful scenery. Only down side was the amount of homeless people hanging out. All very friendly.

I love going to this park because of all the different variety of plants. Also love walking over their bridge and checking out the creek. I feel so surrounded by all of the nature of there environment. Super cool that they have label of the plants with their scientific names. Makes it much easier for me to read the label of a particular plant without having to guess. My favorite time is during summer time when the salmon are around to spawn. I love to come and check out their hatchery to get to see the different stages of the Salmon cycle. Only downside about this park is all the homeless people hanging around. You do run into a few people who seem to be acting very crazy. I did run into a lady having a full conversation with herself that she was literally screaming. On occasionally you do happened to find a few camp sites under the bridge area. Most of the time theyll leave you alone if you happen to walk by them.

I wouldnt go here alone.... Lots of sketch folks about. The actual park was pretty well put together though.

Never know what youre going to see, seals, salmon, people!

Its cool when they got the fish in. Although it has a very high homeless population that stay here. So dont come at night

Fishiery, adult salmon release site, spawning tank and no kids playground [closest playground is waypoint park just across two roads. 24 hour Bathrooms. large grass areas on the southwest side of the park. Close to award winning chucanut brewery and historic Waterfront bar. Parking is onsite and the park has a gerally sketchy vibe close to the jail and homeless shelter

It is pretty and has nice trails but there are a lot a homeless people that sleep and hang around that arent very friendly and it is not very safe if you are by yourself.

Its so beautiful here! Theres an awesome fish lifecycle program it looks like the college does. Also it has quality soft grass! Awesome place to take my pup and relax!

Extremely dirty I grew up here in Bellingham Washington and this town used to be so well maintained Bellingham Washington is no longer maintained

It has a couple neat features. You can see the fish hatchery in action. If youre there at the right time, you can see fish running up the stream and plenty of anglers trying to catch them. Theres also an unexpected waterfall. All these things right on the edge of downtown.

Nice place. Great water and paths. Some homeless and drug use is noted in places.

Cool buildings but the city should address the homeless folks literally sleeping on the city hall steps and all throughout the park/waterway.

Awesome park in downtown Bellingham. Beautiful scenic views and a great beach area for dogs. Lots of playground equipment and friendly atmosphere.

This is a nice park during the day. Across from the Bellingham waterfront and close walking distance from local downtown favorite restaurants and pubs. However this is not a park I would hang out in at night. This area has a tendency to attract many transient folks and drug users. I would also not hang out here with young kids for fear of coming across drug paraphernalia

Beautiful place

Its the kind of place you can relax and have a day beer or two in peace. One time i saw a guy arguing with a tree. The tree clearly got the better of the argument, because that guy hasnt been back, but the tree still hangs around. Sometimes it cam be temting to want to jump in at the top of the creek and ride the waterfall down, but i usually am able to remember that would be an extremely idiotic thing to do. The fishery across the way is interesting when the salmon come around.

Wouldve given a higher rating if the homeless werent over taking it and if garbage wasnt every where... My niece had fun!

Nice park, but I dont suggest walking there alone or after dark due to its proximity to the homeless shelter. It can be pretty dicey for a female who is alone, which is why I go there only if Im in a group.

It would be a lot more relaxing a place to visit if they could take care of some of the Shady transient activity there. Still despite all that its well kept clean and informative as well with plaques detailing the plants there and other features.

It is a cool park for being so close to downtown. There is some awesome trails along the river and the salmon hatchery can be pretty cool to explore as it seems there is always some fish at various levels of growth. Definitely worth cutting through if you are exploring Bellingham. Unfortunately it is quite over run by the homeless. They have there tents set up in the bushes and I know the city has to work hard to clean up their trash.

Its just a green space. No place to sit other than the ground. No childrens area.

Well maritime heritage park to me is a very spiritual place to me now. Any place were the ALMIGHTY meets you on his terms is a blessed life and a new heritage for all John 3:16

Its a beautiful park, and the city does a good job keeping it clean, but its been taken over by the homeless, which takes away almost all of the appeal. Not a bad spot during events, but not inviting otherwise.The trail along the creek is a pretty walk.

The park has lit up trails now you can walk on and it makes it a little bit warmer...

Great place to eat lunch, listen to waterfront, and view out over the water. Several great lunch/breakfast/dinner places within easy walking distance. Ignore the sometimes gathering homeless folks, they are mostly harmless.

First time here mid November and was surprised to see so many people fishing in the river. My kids thought it was so cool seeing the salmon run. The park area alone was pretty empty, lots of wide spaces and no playgrounds. Seems like a great place for a walk.

The big problem I have is the blatant drug & alcohol use, drug deals & homeless (some can be intimidating). My point is that if the city cared about this, they would do their job. Get it together B-ham leaders!!

Cute little pebbly beach. Jungle gym. Harbor seals in the water.

To see salmon swimming upstream in the heart of the city is a treasure. The walk along the stream is full of wonder, you forget a city surrounds you.

Its a cute little downtown park but the homeless population here is saddening and almost makes me not want to go there by myself

Its really a nice park but the homeless problem means you arent going to see families here. There are nice boardwalks along Whatcom Creek that tell you the species of native trees/shrubs planted. Theres a good chance you might see seals in the mouth of the creek. Walk all the way up to the historic Pickett Bridge to see the falls, which is quite dramatic after a heavy rainfall. In the fall fishermen descend on the hatchery to catch some of the thousands of chum salmon returning up the narrow channel.

Like that the park is maintained and alot of great outdoor activities love the large chessboard

This park used to be a safe place to hang oit. Its pretty sketchy now , dont walk the trails alone.

This park borders the very beautiful Whatcom Creek. There are paths and bridges to enjoy the walk on both sides of the creek and signs about names of the vegetation. There are often ducks, geese, herons, seals and other birds and wildlife. However, it is sad to see the many homeless people sleeping in the park and along the creek, garbage resulting from that strewn about, and an uneasy feeling of whether it is a safe place to walk even in the daylight. I hope our city can come up with a remedy to help the homeless, but open this beautiful park and creek back up to families and all who enjoy a walk in nature.

Always a good spot to take the kids, has a nice loop to walk around the while park as well. Great views.
