Really Great Place for families and even small children. I went with my daughter, her fiancee and her 6 yr old twins to see the Super Blood Wolf Moon lunar eclipse last night. They had activists for the children as well as large telescopes set up for viewing. They are very informative about any questions you have. To my surprise there were people out with chairs and even blankets and sleeping bags on the ground to watch this event. I would definitely recommend this place. There was ample free parking and fresh hot free coffee. I did purchase a map of the moon for $7.95 and also a Baton Rouge star guide for $17.95 for the children. Im so glad we got to go to this event!!!

Went there on a field trip. There is one Scientist, who is great with kids and explains astronomy in a fun way. The rest of them have very little patience with children.

The biggest telescope is almost never in use. The roof is broken. Theres little crowd control. Theres little thought to actual event planning. One of the lady workers (or volunteers, not sure) was abrupt and annoying. The super blood moon was a missed opportunity to throw a memorable (and profitable) event. Consider selling concessions like hot chocolate and commemorative t-shirts. Add heated tents. Just a few ideas... Thanks to the nice young man at the outdoor telescope who helped me get this great pic.

Very cool place to bring someone who loves looking at the sky. Our son had been asking us to take him here and when they were doing an event we came. We all had a good time. We learned a lot and we found out we can sign up for classes to help us use his recent gifted telescope given at Christmas. He loves using it but has a hard time dialing it in or tracking the stars trough the sky.

Such an amazing place! We went for one of the Friday lecture series, which was fascinating, and stayed to look at the moon and Saturn. The staff were super friendly and informative about everything. Absolutely worth the visit!

Nice clean, quiet park. Wish the parking areas were paved. Could use more covered seating areas. I was out there flying my drone and it was nice and open for that. Ill visit again.

Amazingly great night in the cold for the January 20th 2019 Lunar Eclipse. The observatory had guest speakers whi h informed us about some of the stats in well known constilations as the moon darkened. It was a very cold wait, but the red moon, a serperior blood wolf moon, was worth the wait. The night was perfect for observing the sky. The moon was so beautiful and bright then it slowly faded into red. Everyone seemed to have a good time.I know some of the kids were even entertained by activities inside the observatory. I am sure that help them get through the waiting process.
