I was so excited- a local artist just happened to mention this place to me while I was viewing her gallery, and when I arrived I was anything but disappointed. It was an amazing and educational experience, and I was so thrilled to get to see so many beautiful birds- every type of crane there is!Looking forward to revisiting in 2020 when all the exhibit reconstruction is done :)

The ICF does what it does really well. Birders and natural history lovers will enjoy the excellent facilities, interpretation and information on cranes plight and the international communitys fight to protect these unique, graceful birds. Families may not find a lot of bang for their buck here, as cranes arent too entertaining and theres not much kid-oriented activity. There are beautiful trails and grounds, however, so kids have lots of room to run around and get some exercise. Pretty amazing that one person started this world-class facility on some family farm land!

Wonderful mission that these dedicated workers are able to do. Seeing every species of crane in their native habitats were both educational and inspiring. Being able to travel to one place to see all of the crane species is great. Cant wait to see how it gets even better when the renovations are done next year.

Beautiful and peaceful area. It was raining and we came with a disabled guest-they had a motorized scooter for her and umbrellas for all of us! It was an awesome experience seeing 13 of the 15 crane species they have. We went with two teenagers and they both enjoyed it.

This incredible crane sanctuary began with the intent to save the whooping cranes. Now the sanctuary remains the only place in the world to home all 15 cranes. Each species has a survival plan and the sanctuary works with other centers to help these birds continue and thrive. Some of the whooping cranes are even released into the wild. Membership is highly recommended. Not only do you get access to other facilities across the nation, you get to support the preservation of the cranes. Staff is knowledgeable and helpful. The facility is accessible and even provides a few handicap chairs, cold drinking water, and places to sit and observe. They are also walking loops for the avid birder to enjoy reclaimed prairie and woodlands.

ICF is a true WI/INTERNATIONAL treasure. They have examples of every crane species of the world available to see on their campus in Baraboo. When the new renovated grounds open in May 2020, it will be an even nicer environmental learning center. Craniacs the world over will have a great place to bring their families and friends.

Totally disappointed. We were told we had to watch a 15 minute video and then go on a GUIDED tour that lasted 1 1/2 - 2 hours. The website says You may also explore the site on your own. There were not many cranes, maybe 1-2 in every other cage. Not meant for kids, especially when its 90° out and the tour moves at a snails pace.

Review №23

The tour was interesting and the different cranes were wonderful to watch. However, some of the pens are long and narrow, and the cranes sometimes stay at the back preventing a good view. Also, some of the cranes stay in their enclosure and cannot be viewed. The Whooping Crane exhibit had one crane visible but the angle for the viewing area was awkward. The foundation does good work but my sense was they tolerate visitors rather than encourage them. Nice gift shop.

I support anyone helping wildlife abd they try hard. The place is very clean . Although not good for children , no shade and only restrooms at the entrance . I was unaware they dont rescue birds they just have cranes. Most of which you cant see and the birds get mad and squak when you watch them. Better for if you want a safe place to hike and support a good cause. If you arent really into cranes only or hiking a lot than dont. Personally got annoyed by constantly being told by workers no way ive seen a crane when I grew up in florida and saw them all the time. Pretty boring exhausting hike if you arent very obsessed with cranes. Thought with such a big area theyd at least have a rescued chipmunk .nopeAnd no interaction with birds is allowed you only see them at very far distance.definantly for enthusiasts or members of foundation not a attraction.
