I visited Austin in April 2019 and spent a lot of time at the Stevie Ray Vaughan Memorial. He was one of the greatest musicians of the 20th century and certainly a tribute to the state of Texas. I love his music because he played from his heart. In Stevies own words, I use heavy strings, tune low, play hard and floor it.

A monument to never forget Austins own and what he shared with world: Music. From Texas blues, rock, soul rock he was a unique blend. The park was clean and a nice walkway to all over the park. The city did a fantastic job of cleaning up the statue after it was vandalized. Long live Stevie Ray Vaughn!

SRV is a staple of Texan culture and was a hell of a musician. The park itself is a great backdrop for a statue well worth seeing if youre a fan of the man. Make sure to pay close attention to the cool details (ie. the ring , earring, etc.)

So glad I was finally able to stop by and see this tribute to one of absolute favorite guitar players. I’ll never forget where I was on that day when I heard. Later on saw Crosby Stills and Nash at Red Rocks that night who’s manager was also on that fateful flight. They opened with “If you can’t be with the one you love, love the one you’re with”. Very fitting tribute.

This statue is a pale reminder of all we lost in that fateful helicopter crash. Stevie was one of many who represent this great city. He wasnt the first to die and leave behind a legacy of Texas soul and blues, and he wont be the last, but hell always be immortalized here for you to take in his presence, with the waterway in the background, you can here the sky crying for his absence. When my favorite places to just sit and watch the sunset or watch the dogs play in the park. I walk a lot along the trail system here and I always stop at this statue, (it’s my halfway point). I just hope they keep the entire area the same way and don’t change things up too much I constantly see slight changes here and there, yes improvements are good but major changes are not favorable.

Stevie Ray Vaughan the blues guitar made famous in Austin Texas is memorialized in a very simple sculpture dated 1993 by Ralph Helmick... Despite Stevies (SRVs) life being cut short (only age 35) by a tragic helicopter crash outside East Troy, Wisconsin, August 27th 1990... His legacy leaves a LONG shadow through the ages! SRV was hands down the most lightning fast precision blues/rock guitar player of all time and modern guitar players still look back to his amazing tallent to draw some sweet licks for their own music today. Stevies career was just exploding before that fateful night. He will forever live on through his greatest hits like Tightrope Pride and Joy Texas Flood and so so many more... He will always be deeply missed- BMP

Would have love more detail to the statue...the area wasnt as clean as it should be the time we were there....and SRV quit drinking and doing drugs years before he passed, God delivered him....and through rehab and AA he stayed clean and sober...watch his videos and youll see him Thank God personally he is ALIVE AND WELL......thus the title Mr. Clean on one of his bootlegs....he was a Christian....love the tribute...but he was born and raised in Oak Cliff in Dallas TX...hoping they get this tribute up for him and Jimmie quickly.....they should have done it years ago...so TY Austin for honoring Stevie....idk if he would have liked the huge lifelike statue....because he was humble...probably preferred something much smaller and not a statue of himself....he sure wouldnt want anyone calling him a GOD or a prophet....if you dont believe me...go listen to all his interviews...he speaks about such in several...
