Beautiful, rugged landscape with free and easy access. Bring your climbing shoes because there are natural limestone bouldering walls here.

The Barton Creek Greenbelt located in Austin, Texas is managed by the City of Austins Park and Recreation Department. The Greenbelt is a 7.25-mile (11.67 km) stretch of public land that begins at Zilker Park and stretches South/Southwest to the final section commonly referred to as The Hill of Life which ends in the Woods of Westlake subdivision. The Barton Creek Greenbelt consists of three areas: the Lower Greenbelt, the Upper Greenbelt and the Barton Creek Wilderness Park and is characterized by large limestone cliffs, dense foliage, and shallow bodies of water.

Beautiful hike with the kids, we explored a cave and played on the river bottom searching for fossils and arrowheads, we finally found signs of native american homesites on a plateau. We saw almost no wildlife other than a pod of bass minnow in a natural spring. Special note: the West side of the greenbelt is for expert hikers its very rough terrain steep hills sheer cliffs, the east side of the greenbelt is for casual day hikers smooth paths and creek beds.

3 hours from sculpture falls, up to the top of the Hill of life, through the neighborhood, then down an alternate route. Amazing view from the trail of the hills of Austin. Highly recommend. Minimal water on the path so bring water.

Its all dried up during the summer! I attached a photo with the only place thats good for swimming. There was too little water for any waterfalls. We spent about 5 hours searching for more spots but only found dead fish at Twin falls. Make sure to bring plenty of water - especially if youre adventurous and like to wander far away from the trail! Its easy to wander around because its so interesting what you find!

Beautiful place to go and hang out with friends. Especially on a hot Austin day. You can take food and drinks with you. Wear comfortable shoes that up may not mind if they get wet. Lots of trees for shade. Rocks for sitting or you can take chairs and or towels and blankets.

One of the best places in Austin. There are so many trails you can hike or run and can take the dog. It also feels like youre in the wilderness and youre right in the city. The creek has clear water with a few spots to swim and even a couple rope swings when the creek has water. There are times of year when the creek is dry is certain spots. Its great to go after a rain to ensure theres water. Theres also some good views from the different trails and several caves. Overall a great place.
