Pretty easy woodsy hike if you stay off the actual dunes. Sand sucks to walk on, especially up hill. There was a ton a skeeters. Wear bug repellent.

Dress warm, take some water walk a mile to the ocean, a hidden gem

Very pretty place, went on a guided walk and really had a wonderful time. The dunes are amazing, the view especially. Strongly recommend it.

Its amazing to sit atop a dune that has nearly engulfed 60ft trees that are somehow still living. In the right places you can sit on a dune cliff looking through the treetops with condors and osprey gliding past you. You are literally sitting in the treetops looking down 40-60 feet. Its serene.

Beautiful dunescapes, nice trails. Ocean access. One North Malel trail goes along the sloughs through the Arcata bottoms.

Love the hiking here. Picnic tables at the parking lot overlooking the bay, pit toilets, map of trails. There is poison oak on parts of the trails. Beautiful views of the bay, and unique dunes too. Great for family time.

Spectacular views, especially if you hike the loop trail up to the big dunes.

Be careful leaving stuff in your car. Someones car was broken into while I was there. Beautiful hike though!

Great walk, forest, dunes, beach

It was pretty, but my husband, my dogs, and myself came home with ticks so check when you leave!

Excellent habits to explore. MR slough, forest and dunes, as well as beach access. Get a map/brochure at one of the trailheads in this area. Check individual areas for user activity rules. Sensitive habits, respect the natural areas.
