The Hammond trail is and has been an important bicycle route connecting Mckinleyville to Arcata. With plans in place to eventually connect to the waterfront trail in Eureka the future looks good for bicycle commuting on the Humboldt coast.

Theres a really good amount of variety throughout the whole trail. Additionally there are lots of different places to start hiking which is great if depending on the difficultly or scenery your looking for. Parts of the trail are paved and it goes right up to the neighborhoods. That does have the benefit of making it more accessible for the community, and if youre looking for more nature you can just start of somewhere else. Ive personally been from between the Hammond Bridge in Arcata through Hiller park in Mckinleyville. All in all I liked it a lot and look forward to checking out more stretches of the trail. I definitely recommend it.

Bad place to go for walks. Not really a hiking trail. More for access to the river under the bridge. Just drive past this and continue to the beach.

A little sketchy over the bridge, be sure to bring a friend and no valuable items. Also be sure to turn the alarm on your car!
