Little small and many of the exhibits did not have animals out. Quite honestly I was going to give this place three stars, but the donkey in this place made me give it five stars. this is the friendliest most loving donkey Ive ever seen in my life. this thing came up and rubbed its head on you and made you feel so loved. everything thats going wrong in the world disappeared heading and scratching the head of this loving donkey

This zoo, although small, was one of the best I have been to! It was a cool day when we went and all the animals were out and active, except the monkeys, but we saw them through a glass window. We went through twice because we enjoyed it so much! So worth the small entrance fee!

Third time going. Each time I tell myself it has to be better than the last. But it wasn’t. The animals look unhealthy and not cared for. The steer they have, his poor hooves are so over grown. Other animals also just looked uncared for. The snake and lizard exhibit, most of them were empty and others were filthy. Over half the animals, weren’t even available to see, not that we missed much if they were in the same shape as the ones that we were able to see. I know we aren’t a big town like Dallas but there could be more done to clean this place up and take care of the animals. They seriously look depressed. Sad that I won’t be going back. Three times is enough for me.

Perfect way to spend a couple hours with the kids. Its a small and pleasant zoo, very clean. The exhibits are obviously smaller than big city zoos but the space was reasonable for each type of animal. I dont get the reviews of people saying the animals look sad... this is very subjective and might lead the public to think the animals are neglected, which is not the case. Im no vet but all the animals seemed to be in good health and no more depressed looking than my very spoiled dog when hes chilling on my patio.I think the staff does a great job, Ill be making a donation.

Took my son to the zoo. He enjoyed it. But as a adult I did not enjoy seeing the animals starving, skinny, and the hoofs on the bull need to be trimmed and maintained. It’s really sad to see the animals in that shape. There should be no reason why they are treated that way.

For a small city zoo that doesnt appear to get a lot of great support from the city and local area business owners, it is fairly nice with great exhibits. Much more oppertunity to be even better if the local community made a bigger effort to support it as well as help clean the surrounding grounds.

A good small zoo. We stopped for a road trip break and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. A couple of the enclosures worried me, but I think they are working to improve themselves and genuinely care about the animals. The education center and the bison enclosure were our favorites.

I love the animals but they all looked sad and bored. There was trash from maintenance all over the place hazardous cans and sprays. I dont want to completely rate a one because there was a storm that went through that didnt help but didnt take away from the trash and lack of work. Some of the tanks that held the reptile were to small i felt like.

While this is a very small zoo ($4.00) admission and can get through it in about 20 minutes it is actually very nice. You can get very very close to the big cats and when they decide to start roaring or bellowing you will experience it like no other zoo. The pictures are not zoomed in.

Please remember this zoo is actually an exotic animal rescue operation. While some of the animals may not look show ready, they are light years ahead of what they were. Please visit and support this zoo, your money doesn’t go to the city coffers. Admission fees and donations go directly to the zoo to improve habitats and care for these animals.

Almost as I remember as a kid & still today my Family had fun looking around at different wildlife and my 3 yr old boy was excited seeing such animals this close. But also the animals do look dehydrated and malnourished if I’m being honest and also animals have dirty water bowls or no water bowl in sight which makes me a little concerned.. I remembered the animals in this zoo from my childhood looking happier and healthier hopefully it will will improve !

Review №46

I cant believe this zoo is still operational. Its the same zoo as it was decades ago (many decades) when I was a kid. Sure its low admission but its tiny and super boring. The 3 & 8 year olds werent even impressed. Honestly, there are more domestic animals; think farm, than species from other continents. The most interesting part was the reptile area. I learned something I never knew. Rattlesnake roundups are not good. Seeing as those roundup festivals are a big draw in the TX/OK Panhandles I was surprised to learn about how harmful they are rather than beneficial.

This is a really nice zoo for the money. You get close to the animals and my family had a great time. If you were looking for a big metro types (like San Diego) then you’ll be disappointed. But if your looking for a great way to spend an afternoon without breaking the bank. This is the place. I would recommend it.

Visiting family in Pampa with a 1-year-old in tow, we wanted a fun activity to make a day out of our already-planned trip down to Amarillo for some shopping. The zoo sounded like a lot of fun. We scoured the zoo website and Facebook page, looking for visitor information, hours, and Covid policies. Their website is very specific about which days they are closed. It was Friday, July 3, which, while a federal holiday if the 4th is on a weekend, was not one of the dates listed on the website. We arrived to an empty parking lot. The gates were locked. The zookeepers were inside, saw me, and told me the zoo was closed because it’s a federal holiday. Please, Amarillo Zoo, keep your website up to date. People who come to the zoo are often coming from far away. If going to the zoo was the only reason we had driven an hour to Amarillo, I would have been furious. Fortunately for us, the Botanical Gardens were an acceptable alternative.

This is a great small Zoo. If I live around Amarillo area I would get a family annual pass if they have one. Many of the animals are Rescue animals or donated by everyday citizens. If you live in the area take your kids there so they can see them. I remember as a little kid that my parents would take us to the Detroit Zoo almost every fall and how fun it was to see animals from other parts of the world. If you have some extra money you could donate it would really help them out as Zoos always need some extra money to build better facilities for the animals.

A good selection of animals for a small zoo in a small city! On our visit the lion roared, the lemurs played, and the tigers posed. The bear was restless, but the rest on the animals were relaxed, but active. Even the turkeys posed for photos. All the animals looked healthy. Plenty of parking and the admission is half price on Mondays. You only need an hour. More of you linger. We took our sons family including the grandkids and we all really enjoyed it.
