This place is a gorgeous facility but that is the best thing about it. I thought this place was boring. The upstairs was closed for remodeling, the movie in the first room was decent, the statues were gorgeous, but honestly we were all bored. I thought it needed more history or artifacts from ranches or something more! I wouldnt waste the money!

This place is pretty cool in person! We didn’t get to tour the museum but just checking out the statues outside, using the facilities and making a small donation of appreciation made this a nice mini-break of our road trip.

Visited on a Wednesday morning and two of us were the only patrons. I loved the history, old photos, artwork, and the various trophies on display. There is an amazing pedigree map inlay on the tile in the front exhibit hall. A small arena out back looks like it may host live demos or programs, although none were happening on the day we visited. A few of the interactive exhibits in the downstairs section were less than functional (touch screens not working, fruitless mouse clicks), and none of the upstairs movie displays were turned on (or working?). This museum would be even better if it had an interactive pedigree map to trace our own horses lineage on site.

Unfortunately when we stopped the museum was closed. But the life size statues outside were awesome! One day I’ll get to tour the museum with my family!

Downstairs is a lot more kids oriented, which was well done but I wasnt there with children. Upstairs, though, had an awesome several room, elaborate, timeline of horse influence in American history that I found fascinating. They tied in what was happening in mainstream culture at the time (loved all the Disney movie releases) so it wasnt just reading meaningless dates, and then showed the hoof-print quarter horses were making at the same time. Very cool.

This museum is part of the American Quarter Horse Association, whose headquarters are in Amarillo, so naturally theres a lot of neat stuff about quarter horses. A big part of the AQHA mission is to acquaint people with how versatile the breed is, from roping steers and herding cattle to pulling buggies to competing in hunter-jumper classes. Its a mission this museum totally achieves. But even if you arent a died-in-the-wool horse lover, there are a lot of fascinating exhibits. Horses played such a role in American history, from Paul Reveres ride to the opening of the west, and even in World War 1. A painless way to brush up on your U.S. history! Plus some of the exhibits, such as the parade saddles, are awesome for their artistry.

This was awesome, we spent hours and hours at this Museum learning all about the American Quarter Horse. It is located in Amarillo Texas. I am not what you would call a horse person but I do believe they are a beautiful animal and it was very interesting to learn about them.

I enjoyed seeing the write-ups on all the Hall of Fame horses and horsemen and horsewomen, many of whom I was personally acquinted. Those that I was not familiar with, I was able to learn about. I have never been to a museum that I enjoyed as much. Thanks to the great people at the AQHA and the great horse men and women that have come before us.

This was a neat place to visit. We went when they had an open house and enjoyed it. Its not very big and I wouldnt set aside more than an hour to the tour. Its really not for young kids as the exhibits aimed at kids are few. I would say its a place to visit in the morning before you head out to do something else before lunch. To me, the prices are a little high for how big it is. We went during the open house and got in free. Not sure Id pay to do it any other time honestly.

This place just wowed me! There are many interactive displays that were just so much fun! The collection of memorabilia is AWESOME! Theres a great mosaic laid out on the floor of the geneology of the Quarter Horse, along with the owners and contributors and progeny of the most famous horses in American history. Some of the artworks are just so visually stunning you can look at them for hours and picture yourself on some high plain somewhere right along with the artist as he lays out his amazing view in microscopic detail. Final thought; LOVED IT!!!

Beautiful museum but, unless you are into horses, its not all that interesting. The short film is worth seeing. Gift shop is tiny. Exhibits are largely tributes to people most of us have never heard of whose impact is limited to the world of quarterhorses. Not worth the small admission price unless you have an interest in horses.

Unless you are an owner, breeder or uber enthusiast, this will probably not interest you. They do have a small, but well designed area for small children with a talking horse. Mostly it is homage to past quarter horses. A lot of photos and trophies. However, I have heard the outside demonstrations are good, if you are there at the right time.

Review №52

Beautiful architecture inside and out, though the museum exhibits will likely be smaller than you expect from a look at the outside of the building. Museum mostly geared to children downstairs with a more mature history of the association and quarter horse racing upstairs. I had more fun downstairs than upstairs, the conversations between Doc and Two Bits - caricatures of a veterinarian and a horse - were entertaining. Gift shop was well stocked but we felt many items were overpriced. Given the opulence of the building it didnt look like AQHA was hurting for money and we were reluctant to buy expensive sweatshirts as a result. Free/reduced admission for military and veterans.
