The only highlight is the rare helium car and an old Alco Switcher. The rest of the complete collection of outdoor exhibits is defunct nuclear cars that would most likely need an explanation. Inside the building (not a depot) is a model train layout, but we couldnt see it. This place has been deemed temporally closed until further notice due to the covid scare.

Spent an amazing evening with knowledgeable railroad enthusiasts dedicated to all aspects of the history, from the extensive model theyre building to the historical artifacts theyve collected to the train cars that theyre restoring. Their hours of operation are limited (this is all volunteer work!) but if you can catch them when theyre open, it is so worth the effort.

Nice little place! They are still making the models indoor, so there was not much to see inside. But the trains were fun to look in and climb on.

The backdrop is still under construction but still a great free place to visit with kids. Everyone was very friendly.

Good place to stay for 30 minutes.

This place has great history and an amazing group of guys willing to share it. They have good history on Amarillo and its tie to the railroad as well as the DOE and their famous white train. The model railroad will be really cool once its completed. That alone is a good reason to visit but the full size rolling stock they have on the property is also very cool to tour. Definitely worth a visit if youre in Amarillo.

Im sure its a great place, but odd ball hours of operation make seeing it difficult. I drove over 35 miles one way today to show my grandson. The website said open but it was closed. A sign outside talked about an open house in Nov. Its now Feb. Seems like this is someones private area, and you can visit if they happen to be there ATM.

Awesome railroad museum has a couple of old rail cars and Diesel locomotives

Everyone needs to see it, and help them restore the bomb train they have

The staff here was great. They are in the process of building a miniature layout of the Panhandle’s railroad systems.

To be honest I wasnt expecting much but, I at least expected it to be open as the web site said it would be. Kids were disappointed.
