I showed up in the early morning hours and it was absolutely quiet and peaceful. I enjoyed watching a family of swans as well as walking through various habitats. No bikes allowed on the island though bike rentals are available in the parking lot for other trails.

Beautiful area we did the sanctuary trail. Filed with fun facts along the trail about the different trees. Be careful walking around some of the trails there are tiny little frogs on the pathways so small they look like bugs

We got to see turtles laying eggs in mid June and it was awesome! My son loves this park even more now. The trails are clean I highly recommend it.

Its is absolutely beautiful walking the trails thought out the different seasons. The wildlife is so vast weve seen everything from toads, squirrels, deer,fish and birds. Its amazing just being able to let my son pick out which way he wants to walk and its different every time

The city has done a fantastic job keeping this park clean and making it enjoyable. And of course their 4th of July display was outstanding!

This is a natural gem, right inside Alpena City limits. Hiking and biking trails. No motorized vehicles. Plenty of wildlife to be seen and places to explore. I come here year round.

Food was awesome drinks were very creative and went down easy! I would go again!

Great park with an island hike that takes about 20 minutes to loop. Can be buggy on humid days. Turtle eggs can be seen on the east side of the island. Beautiful bridge and kayaks and canoes to rent in spring and summer.

This is a fantastic place to spend the afternoon. The trails are amazing. Some paved and some dirt, but all are well maintained. The bridge provides a wonderful viewing spot for all of the wading birds and other water creatures. Nice and peaceful with plenty of parking. There were no trail maps there when we went, so snap a photo of the trail welcome board before heading off.

The Alpena Wildlife Sanctuary has been an interesting place to visit in Alpena for so many years. To think we have such a diverse ecological place for people to explore is wonderful. Also, now that we have the covered bridge and water tower they are just two added benefits to this unique slice of the outdoors.

This is located on the back side of Island park in Alpena. It is a nice place for a walk in the woods. You can see where the beavers have chopped the trees down and dragged them to the lake. Will have to go back when the scenery is a little greener.

This place is great for a nice day outside. I grew up in alpena but have moved away. I used to enjoy walking around here when i was little. Now i enjoy coming to visit and bringing my children to enjoy it

This Island Park and Wildlife was an easy hour walk with only two sets of stairs along the way. The flower gardens at the entrance is a great photo opportunity. The hand hewned covered bridge was built with Lots of trails that lead to the islands edges and interior. A family of swans paddled around. During the summer season one could rent kayaks but they were closed for the season. Lots of interesting plants too including hosetails.

Best place to go. Always take out of town guests.

Its a great place for picnicking, gatherings, or just to sit and enjoy the day. You can explore the island thats connected to the park. Or you can rent a kayak or canoe and explore the, Thunder Bay River. And its on US23 North, so, its just minutes from restaurants, stores, lodging, and other businesses. Theres also another wildlife sanctuary on, M-32, as well. Which is also a great place to spend time at, as well.

Beautiful area. Some walk-only trails all around the island plus lookouts here and there. A paved path goes up to the main lookout for stroller or wheelchair access. Many enjoy the river for fishing or kayaking/canoeing in the summer. It is a beautiful spot year round and many local families and parties frequent the new picturesque bridge for a photo opportunity.

It is a great place to feel woodsy in the middle of the city. The paved roads for handicap accessible people is often scattered with litter. There is even a geo-cash located on the island.

Its always amazing to see these types of natural areas within the confines of a city. I think Alpena residents really embrace the outdoors.
