This is a very clean park with several hiking trails and very dogfriendly. There are historic signs, monument, and a few cannons scattered around the park. Asides from that, there is not much to see. I didnt like the gravel trails, but some are grassy and a small section for pavement on the 2.66 mile trail loop closest to the visitors center. It is nice to get away without having to go into the woods to walk the trail. With Covid, I didnt see anyone wearing masks. Whew! Because I forgot to bring one. Everyone was so friendly! Love the Winchester residents!! So refreshing to see friendly faces. I really enjoying my walk with my pups.

The perfect walking trail for all ages and skill levels. Wooden benches create wonderful photo ops! Historical, scenic, just right for any day of the week! Note, there is no trash can on the trail or in the parking lot, so be prepared to carry your trash home.

Wide paved or gravel trails make walking this battlefield accessible for bike riders and those with specialized stroller and wheelchairs. There are other smaller trails for those on foot who want extra steps. The new visitors center has a restroom, small gift shop and a wealth of easy to read history. The staff is friendly and helpful. Better signage with numbered markers would help visitors trace the battle as it unfolded. More benches would also be welcome.Lovely countryside! Visit Winchester after your hike for more history.

I love all the trails! Each time we come we go down a different trail for new scenery. Hikes are flat and easy. You can do a short loop or a longer loop. I like this place a lot

Very nice gravel trail. Some parts were washed out or muddy, but on dry(ish) days this should not be much of a hindrance. Enjoyed the trail.

This is a wonderful addition to the community. The trails are generally kept up with and trash free. Pick up any you see and help keep it that way. Great place for a bike ride or for stretching your dogs legs. Leash rule as there are lots of doggos around. Easy trails with a few hills and plenty of history plaques for you to learn from.

Picturesque, relaxing, rolling fields that stretch as far as the interstate and beyond (to include distant mountain views). As dusk nears, be ready for bats especially in treed areas.

The Shenandoah Valley Battlefield Foundation has placed brand new signage throughout the park. New monuments and historic fence lines have been added.

Great preservation work done by the Shenandoah Battlefields organization. The trails are easy to navigate and smooth walking. The battle is well interpreted except that there were no maps to see which waysides to do in which order. That is my only complaint; there is really no need for a visitors center honestly, all you need is that intro sign they put in and a map and yourre set! I will be going back because I didnt get to go on the non-bike trails due to time and correct footwear.

There are five miles of paved and gravel trails available for walking, running, or biking. Some areas are scenic, some are open, and others are wooded. There are additional paths through the woods. No restrooms. Wildlife abounds!

Great outdoor but no signs or maps showing how to get back to the visitor center or parking lot so gets very confusing to get back to your car. Careful if going with kids - this can get everybody cranky.

Nice hiking trails that traverse over some gently rolling hills and meadows. Trail is mostly gravel with some dirt trails that are very well kept. If you walk all loops it is about 5 miles in length. Civil war placards and monuments note significant events during the 3rd battle of Winchester. A new visitors center has just been built as well.

The Civil War raged on for four years in Frederick County. The city of Winchester switched from Union control to Rebel control many times. This battlefield is is one of many in the area. However, the Third Winchester Battlefield keeps growing and improving. New markers and maps have been erected. The main path is compacted gravel with some asphalt on one particularly steep hill. There are off shoots of trails leading to cannons. The Third Winchester Battlefield is dog friendly (please pick up after them). One can run, hike or walk the trails with relative ease. Please remember this is a place of U.S. history. It was a dark time for our nation and many men died on both sides. Remember the past, learn from its mistakes .

A battlefield with an unbelievable history but an average site. Worth a visit for a hardcore fan, but I love battlefields and was underwhelmed with many parts. Signage is fantastic but Id rate the different parts of the battlefield as follows:Red Bud Run Wayside: 5/5Hackwood Wayside: 3.5/5Confederates Reform Wayside: 2/5The West Woods Wayside: 0/5 (LOUD next to I-81)Middle Field Wayside: 2/5Camp Averell/Third Winchester Kiosk: 3.75/5

Went for Memorial Day with the kids - says it’s open. Packed the kids up for a day of learning remembering and hiking. Parking lot is coned off and closed. We are very disappointed. Idk if this is northam or p&r but pretty disappointed we couldn’t go on a hike and learn about the battles on Memorial Day weekend but Lowe’s and target and McDonald’s are open right down the road.

This is one of the nicest places to walk near Winchester. There are nice paved and unpaved trails with some hills near the parking lot. There are both open (near the parking lot) and wooded (near Millbrook) sections. The plaques narrating the Third Battle of Winchester make walking the trails a bit of an educational activity for those who care to read them. All of that said, Winchester does not have any truly great parks right nearby. Those wanting a longer hike in a more pristine environment can find plenty of places to go if they are willing to drive 40 minutes or so to some of the National Parks, National Forests, and Virginia and West Virginia State Parks that surround Frederick County. The Buzzard Rock trail between Strasburg and Front Royal is excellent.

We could tell it was being really fixed up nice. Fences were new and brush trimmed back nice. There was a farmhouse being fixed up as we were there. I wish the maps showed where things were better, like the cannons that showed online. We walked the (mowed) trail for a mile and found nothing. We headed back as it was 99 degrees and muggy.

Such a beautiful place with so much history. There is about 6 miles of trails to walk here as well as trails for bike riding. The trails and park are open 24 hours and I have walked these trails many times and still find little hidden paths to walk all the time. It is just so beautiful and peaceful walking the trails here especially during the fall when the leaves change. Definitely recommend exploring here if you havn t yet.

I like this place OK some small hills nice for taking kids and wife too. On a cold day a bit brisk but OK. Lots of history panels to read and there is an old house you can see from a panel that talks about it that was built I think during the revolutionary war by hessians maybe. Some famous people where involved in the battle here. Maybe some president when he was a bit younger. My great great uncle may have fought here but not sure as I dont know exactly which units were here. But his unit was involved in Gettysburg and he delivered a message to Lee there. Im not sure this relates to this particular place much though.
