This is a very pleasant little park with more trails than it seems at first to have. There are many nice spots, including a karst area with a cliff and pond. Unfortunately, garbage and graffiti mar the natural serenity somewhat.

The small parking area was .2 mile from where Google thinks it is based on the address. It is off Openquon. Directions are on the website. It would be helpful to have a sign facing the other direction and about 40 feet closer to the road. As for the trail when you find it, it is a basic crushed rock trail through a small wooded area. A nice place to walk or run with your dog.

Nice park hidden away right in the middle of Winchester. Lots of trees and greenery as well as several winding trails. There are streams and springs, bridges, and more. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves experiencing nature without having to drive an hour for some seclusion.

Nice trail. Make sure to wear bug spray. Some plants on the trail need trimming. Its dog friendly.

First time here today. Very pleased, and I look forward to going back. Navigation sent me to the side of the park, not the parking lot. But a drove around and found it. The steam is very nice, babbling brook in many places. So are both the paved and unpaved trails. There are a few funny signs from the parks departments about yoga spaces, and hugging trees. Very nicely connected to the Winchester Green Circle pathway.

I spent weeks on end cleaning up broken glass and trash in this beautiful spring...littery... it has a charm and a lot of potential the springs have good water, but the spring holes are borderline dangerous! I hope the park service can improve on it. Beautiful karst formations I hope it can be fixed before its too late!!! Its priceless in the small parts of nature. Dont forget bug spray!

This is a short trail that winds through a ton of history. It is great for a short walk at lunch time (get a little fresh air), or taking a stroll back in time to really get a sense for the historical significance of the area. You can imagine what it was like during the Civil War, or go way back and think about it being a natural spring used by Native Americans. The old cement walls you see along the way are what is left of Winchesters first public works system (I think the late 1800s). If Im not mistaken, Shenandoah University has a pamphlet some of the students put together about the area. Its worth a read if you can find it.

Coming from DC/Alexandria VA and think Shawnee Springs Preserve is a Hidden Treasure in the middle of Winchester! The Preserve has raw landscapes that set the stage for people to peek back to the time when Shawnee Indians made this place home, or when soldiers kept guard over the wounded in what could possibly have been the largest field hospital for the time period, and a rare peak at a time when Winchester drew the drinking water from the Shawnee Springs. The rail road tracks create one main boarder to Shawnee Springs Preserve which has one entrance one to the Green Circle at the old train bridge. The other Shawnee Springs Park entrance is off the Green Circle path around the bend going away from Old Town providing the public with easy access to this natural island. Shawnee Springs Preserve provides opportunities for families and individuals to explore woods, view cliffs of outcropping rock, and enjoy lush wetlands creating an experience that speak to the very unique spirit Winchester has just blocks from the Loudoun St walking mall. Winter and Spring photos should be going up soon showing everyone this place is cool to visit any time of year.
