Whats not to love about artisans. People that have a strong connection to natural goodness for body and soul. Fruits, veggies, granola, breads jams, plants, spices, beautiful jewelry hand made with rare unique jems or stones, local honey (always use honey locally for allergies a month before visiting to help your body become immune to allergies while on holiday wherever) Should I say more. Lol yes youll love it.Last day I believe was today for the season.See you next year. Hugs and happy holidays

Real quick, this is a review for the farmers market part of Poplar Groove. Ill be honest, I havent explored much of the place at all, but the farmers market on the other hand, I have. It isnt the largest market in the world, in fact one of the smallest Ive been too, but that doesnt detract from it. The vendors are nice people, selling items ranging from paintings, cheesecake, local fruit and vegetables and meats, soaps and oils, and much more. Vendors also change often. Open on wednesdays till 1pm, it is a nice place to stop and check out. Great place to support local business. Many support cards, though Id recommend buying with cash if possible. Im not a hundred percent sure, but I believe some methods of payment come with fees that will either cost you or the vendor extra money, thus cash is the best way to support them. However, if you have no cash on hand, a card purchase is better than no purchase at all for the vendor.

We took some pictures from the road.On a good note we found walking trail dog friendly right next door. There is a little animal sanctuary there. So if you are in the aera with your dogs or just want a walk it looks nice there. We didnt walk it just looked a the map

Every Wednesday they set up the flea market in the front yard of the plantation. We bought so many homemade goods before our tour. Since it was during the week, we were the only people on the tour. The inside of the house is beautiful! Our guide spent a lot of time in each room answering our questions. They also offer military discounts! The grounds are very extensive, and you can watch a basket weaver out back. The gardens and all grounds are included. Awesome pitstop through historic Wilmington.

Passionate, knowledgeable tour guides and an old plantation atmosphere that has weathered the year quite well. Enough of the original 19th century history is present to give you perspective into life then, before, and after, and the new additions coexist with rather than replace what was present before. The tour guides have knowledge that is very specific to the house and property, and seem to care deeply for the history of the family and region. And bonus: there is an animal sanctuary on the property! Many friendly pigs, goats, horses, and cats!Im glad I checked it out. $12 a person for guided tour is a bit steep considering the lack of many original artifacts or outbuildings (by contrast, you can tour the giant and very historically important USS North Carolina for $14), but as someone from the North where there isnt anything like this, I really enjoyed it, and the money goes to running and maintain what is left.

Great home and grounds. Our tour guide, Kim, did an excellent job explaining the family history and life on the plantation. The grounds also has a basket gallery, stables, tenant farmer home, blacksmith shop and another building that explains peanut growing and harvest. In the basket gallery they have volunteers who make baskets and show the many varieties of baskets used on the plantation. There are also homemade baskets that you can purchase. It was a wonderful visit.

Love love love walking the trail at Poplar Grove! This time we took 3 of our 4 Samoyeds and they absolutely loved the walk!! This time we noticed lots of colored gem rock and small toy villages that had been set up in various tree trunks and root systems throughout the course of the trail. Gnomes, fairies and castles to experience in shrunken size compared to the background they are built on! We trekked 1.9 miles today and our pups will surely be lazy the rest of the day!

Beautifully kept and curated plantation house. If you like history take the guided tour (about an hour) and look for their special events like moonlight ghost tours or craft fairs or live music. Theres a public trail through the woods that are adjacent (share the same parking area on the NorthEast side) - take the path to the pond in the woods to see the turtles (bring bug spray for you and old veggies for them).
