What a fantastic day, the USS North Carolina museum is just great. What a way to experience history by walking on the deck of such a great vessel and seeing what the sailors of the Second World War worked and fought on. The folks working the museum were all super as well, highly recommend!

Passed by this area many times over the last couple decades. We finally decided to give it a go. Perhaps would have been better with the audio tours. Plenty of signs to read though. Not a place for the physically impaired, lots of climbing, and stepping over doorways, but it is a battleship after all.Nice history lesson and memorial. We all enjoyed our visit.

This was one of the best places I have ever visited! Be ready for lots of stairs and narrow passageways! We were there a little over three hours and took in everything! We took tons of photos! Its very educational and gives you a whole new perspective on what those brave men who were stationed aboard the North Carolina endured. It will forever hold a very special place in my heart!

Wonderful tour, wonderful people. Make sure you are not claustrophobic, and make sure you take an allergy med if you are sensitive to mold and mustiness. But it was amazing to be able to go down into the engine and the steering room and the previous quarters of all of the different soldiers that stayed on this boat. It was interesting to see the signal memes stations. But most of all it was amazing to be able to climb up inside of the actual Torrid of one of these powerful guns and see all of amazing mechanics and ballistics estimating machines and how it took whole teams of individuals to man these guns, much less to load them. They also show how would the projectiles would carried from one part of the boat to the other four even some of the smaller guns. Heck, my kids even got to sit in the turret of a 40 mm gun and turn the cranks so that it rotated back and forth and lifted the gun up and down. I have uploaded some videos and pictures. We had a lot of fun, other than the fact that the kids are kind of afraid of walking on the metal grates were walking in between the tight spaces or going down the extremely steep stairs. But, hey, its a battleship, you know? But I would say between this exhibit and the one in Norfolk, we had more fun at this one by far. It was more for the kids to do, much more for them to look at, and a lot that I got to be able to explain to them about history. Some of which I might even share with them when I get home.

The best battleship to visit in my opinion out of the USS Alabama, USS Iowa, and USS North Carolina. It is well kept and very clean. Be ready for the narrow/steep stairs, but even if you cant traverse them, the sheer power and glory of this masterpiece is worth visiting.

The sheer magnitude of this vessel is astounding! What an amazing piece of history. My grandfather was in WWII and my father was in Vietnam. I myself joined the Army and am so glad I did after seeing the way the Navy lives. This was a highlight of our second trip to Wilmington along with Fort Fisher. If you have a chance to visit this vessel please do, you will not be disappointed!

Went here on Spring Break with a bunch of girl friends. It was a very interesting and eye opening experience. You are able to see first-hand what life is like in the navy and at war and how those soldiers live during those times. This tour can be a hit or a miss depending on if you like tight spaces, can climb up and down ladders, and just if you are interested in this type of thing. The tour is also usually self-guided which is nice because it allows you to roam freely.

This battleship is quite amazing (and I hate to use that overly used word). It is quite impressive to look closer at every corner of that ship and believe so many things were put together in such a tight space. Seriously, thats 1940s technology and is still impresses me. My boyfriend and I visited the city from out of town and this was our favorite stop! The tour is self-guided, so its great for an adventure to see how people lived on the ship. I will say, the quarters were clearly built for smaller people, as my boyfriend and I are both 6 and built like trucks and it was a little difficult to navigate for this reason. Make sure to check the tides before coming by in the spring/fall, we were leaving right as high tide was sweeping in and our car was nearly turned into a boat. Be careful, but other than that it was an excellent trip! We even got to see some alligators (from a distance) while on the deck!

Really a cool tour and it was a lot of fun. The only negative was that they charged my kids full price because they did not have a military ID with them. My wife and I both had ours and they would not take our word that they were our kids. Even Disney World does not require that kids have IDs. That was pretty ridiculous. They need to change their policy.

Moored in quiet dignity and majesty the Battleship NORTH CAROLINA, across the river from downtown Wilmington, beckons visitors to walk her decks. Envision the daily life and fierce combat her crew faced in the Pacific Theatre during World War II.From all across our Nation they came, young men who had grown up in the crucible of the Great Depression and now determined to serve their Country in its time of need. These are the men whose stories you will encounter through their oral histories, photographs, and mementos as you experience the Ship and the exhibits.-By Battleshipnc.com

A great slice of World War 2 history available to be experienced. The pandemic is limiting the experience a bit. The Museum portion of the center is closed, leaving the store area and part of the ship available. The placards describing some of the more overt interesting items like turrets and gun mounts also have snippets of personal stories. Mostly the weather deck is what is available to sight see. there are a couple hatches open to the 16 and 5 turrets are able to be peeked into, but not accessed.

Excellent battleship with a ton of history. The self-guided tour took me about 2 hours or so, but you can either go slower or faster depending on how much time you want to spend reading the information scattered about in each of the areas of interest. The admission price is very competitive with similar experiences. You get access to seeing a lot of different areas of the ship, both below and above the main deck. I also recommend coming back and walking around the walkway that surrounds the entirety of the ship. I toured the battleship during the day, when it was hot, so it didnt seem to enticing to walk around after, but at sunset, the walk was beautiful- and free.

Excellent visit. Have been here many times with my father but he has since passed on. 20 years since I was here and the ship looks the same except things have been added to make the ship seem more like it is in use while you tour it. I really liked the extra touch theyve given it. It would be more realistic though if they would use mannequins or silicone replicas for the sailors and people on board instead of wood. The wood figures were actually a little creepy. Theyve added a horn you can blow with 4 options in the Stern which is neat for kids. You can climb a long ways up this ship. Just be prepared and wear good shoes or boots meant for running or hiking because there is a lot of steps and ladders to climb for the true enthusiast! I would not recommend lotion before entering the ship because of climbing up and down the railing. I would really love yo see a more guided tour as in they have signs pointing you to each exhibit but you can easily fall off that path. They do have working restrooms on the ship and drink machines. They also ask for a $2 donation when you purchase tickets to help maintain the ship which is small change to help maintain a part of history so please consider giving more. There are guides that will walk with you for free if you like which is well worth it for the true enthusiast! Takes more time because they really go into depth. You can also walk at your own leisure. I do not recommend small children because unless they can climb up and down ladders themselves it makes it hard on someone carrying them up and down. This would be more for children age 5 and up in my opinion. The top of the ship has a railing around it but small children if not looked after could easily get in between this and fall overboard. They have a walkway that goes all the way around the ship you can walk on to view the ship from outside. They also have a pretty big gift shop. When youre on top of the ship you have a good view of the surrounding downtown Wilmington city. Had a great time. Will go back.

A gem in Wilmington! Such a wonderful spot to enjoy a fully immersive history lesson. Visited the ship with my family over the holidays and had a wonderful time. The ship has a self guided tour which is generally well marked, although there were a couple of points where it was confusing. There are many many levels of the ship to enjoy and you can choose how far down or up you would like to visit. Know that going between levels is quite a workout; it’s more like climbing ladders than stairs. They are steep and narrow. We visited for just over 2 hours and did not see every level (going down the ladders became difficult and claustrophobic). There are lots of informative signs in each compartment of the ship to explain the history and that was really wonderful. This is a must visit if you are in Wilmington!
