Love the pear wine, 2018 late harvest and delight wine. The brandy will definitely hit you. Its 40% proof. That are always pleasant and helpful.

Great staff, delicious wines and reasonable prices! The seating was comfortable and accommodating during the pandemic. They were kind to show us to a specific seating area even without a reservation. Payments were collected following our tasting which was very professional

Can you say strikingly busy? No greeting at the door, no one to assist with anything. Albeit this place was busy so were other wineries in the area, and we received 0% customer service here as compared to other local wineries. This made us sad because we heard such great things about this place. We wanted to try some great wines but had a hard time even getting through the crowded room to navigate the shelves of wines. We did drop some cash here and hoped for the best without trying before buying. BEWARE! Their grappa will sneak up on you! Plan on coming here when maybe its not so busy.

Blackstar farms has terrible interpretation and implementation of Covid group restrictions. We understand the 6 person capacity. We were two groups of 4 traveling in separate vehicles more than happy to sit separately, and we were very rudely refused service. They have lost our business permanently. All other vineyards have been very accommodating.

I brought a bunch of out-of-town guests in for a visit this week, and was deeply disappointed with an interaction we had with your manager, Chris. We were enjoying a tasting and some sunshine, the ladies deeply impressed with Black Star - so impressed they purchased several bottles of wine to take home. One of the bottles was opened to enjoy. We did NOT know that was a violation of Black Star’s license and would have never done so intentionally. Chris was extremely aggressive when he approached and riding in the interaction with us on the problem. As a member of the industry, customer service is the majority of the experience. Sadly, this was a disappointing one.

Wines are great, nice tasting room. Good views but not as scenic as competitors. The wines really make up for it though. People are very nice in the tasting room plus helpful. Lots of tables too. Parking lot was full when we got here but we didnt feel like it was packed.

They definitely need to step up their “operations during a pandemic” game. They only had a plastic barrier in front of the cash register, eliminating the opportunity to taste at the bar. We were then hurried to a table on the front porch overlooking the parking lot. We were served our wine in plastic cups, placed in the incorrect order from the wines they labeled for us. There was no discussion or explanation of the wines, or any kind of interaction at all. Fortunately, this was our first stop and we were very satisfied and appreciated the preparation and effort the other vineyards put towards giving a quality experience under these circumstances.

I stayed at Black Star Farms in June 2020. Despite telling the management several times that I was allergic to tree nuts, they served something that triggered an allergic reaction to me anyways (could have not been tree nuts, but I had an anaphylactic reaction). The hotel itself is beautiful and they had great wine, however I cannot get over this negligence by management. I was not able to eat any of the food they served after this, even though I paid for it with my stay at the inn. Will not be returning.

Sort of confusing experience. Abided by signs waited for host but there was none. Sign Says no masks needed when you get to table. Man inside said to come in. We waited to be told where to go. He urged us to go to tasting counter (there is plexiglass). We pulled our mask down behind the plexiglass and we were told we have to wear mask behind the glass until we get to table. We were just confused. Received a plastic cup of wine with a parking lot view of parked cars & few nice trees beyond. Mediocre experience but it is hard times

Probably my favorite winery on the peninsula. They have a wide range of wines, ciders, and even brandy. The staff is all very knowledgeable and friendly. I would recommend trying the raspberry dessert wine (also the winter wine)! The brandy is delicious but strong, so be prepared! One of the places I will always go when I’m in the area.

I am writing to inform you that your wine attendant working today was extremely unprofessional and condescending. I came with my boyfriend on a wine tour and there was only one other couple there. He paid close to zero attention to us and a lot of attention to them. I had mentioned when we walked in that I didn’t know much about wine and he looked at me in disgust. The other couple at one point asked him if he wanted to go “check on us” because it was that obvious. Extremely unwelcoming and overall a terrible experience. It’s unfortunate that a nice winery like you have was completely ruined due to the staff. I would suggest you take care of this because I have looked at other reviews and many other people have taken his photo saying that he is a terrible fit for this job around other people.

Of all the wineries on Old Mission Peninsula, this is one of my least favorites. It has a very touristy feel to it. They do have a satellite location on another trail as well, but for some reason it feels like it is run like a chain. Honestly, the people there know a lot about the wine, but they just dont have as friendly of a personality as with other places on the trail. They dont seem to relate to you as well, as someone that doesnt know about their wine. You do get a free glass with your tasting purchase, and their wine was decent, but I will probably skip this winery next time, in order to add another one to my stop.

Probably my favorite of the Old Mission wineries. Space is on the smaller side, but dont let that fool you -- the variety is great. I tend to go for dryer reds, and was visiting with a friend who prefers whites on the sweet side and ports. We both found plenty to love at Black Star, and my husband was excited about their eau de vies and brandy. Will be going back (equipped with my stemless tasting glass for a free tasting!)

Be
Review №83

To start with, it was the most awkward tasting experience of my life. Growing up in Napa I have learned the appropriate mannerisms with providing a good experience with tastings. The cardinal rule of allowing guests to speak to one another in private was obliterated as the host literally did not leave a 1 foot radius of us the entire time. The tasting was rushed and we were out the door in less than 15 minutes, including purchasing several bottles of cider. The red wine was pretty much crap in a bottle. Had the experience been better, we would have forgiven the subpar red wines. The whites on the other hand were shockingly palpable.
