Wing Luke Museum is a wonderful place to visit for locals and visitors alike. Being a Seattle native it was important to me to see the museum and hear about the stories about the International District. My family lived on Beacon Hill for many years and seeing the Asian American and Pacific Islander cultural history of Seattle struck a chord with me and my heritage. All the staff were friendly and I especially want to shout-out Em(?) who was our tour guide. She was well-versed in the history of the city and building and could answer all the questions the group asked her.

Great museum that highlights the Asian-American cultural experience in the Seattle region. The main draw is of course the Bruce Lee exhibit which itself is worth the visit alone, but note there is no photography allowed. It is unfortunately, relatively smaller than expected which could have benefited from showing more of his life such as his time before arriving in Seattle. The rest of the museum does include Vietnamese, Cambodian, Philippino, and South Asian experiences in addition to the expected Chinese, Japanese, and Korean stories. There is a guided tour that lets guests into some areas that are off limits without a guide such as the mahjong room on the third floor. Its definitely worth the visit, but once is probably enough.

Doan is an informative and positive tour guide. Our new business just moved into the neighborhood and we wanted to make sure our staff was well versed on the history of the area we serve. We took a tour of Japan town in the International/Chinatown district with the Luke Wing museum and every step of the way we had a wonderful experience. The team greeted us cheerfully at the door and were ready for us when we arrived. The pace of the walking tour was relaxed and allowed for plenty of time to ask questions and dig deeper into the history of the neighborhood. Doan was able to answer all of our questions informatively and with a smile on her face. If you are looking for an informative tour with an amazing staff, we highly recommend contacting the Luke Wing museum!

A sobering experience, this museum is very well organized and does provoke conversations. Youd be a pretty cold person not to respond to the painful first hand accounts, or to note how far and yet how little weve come. This is a text heavy museum, so be prepared to spend at least two hours if you intend to digest everything!

Wish I had more time to spend going through each exhibit. We happened upon the last tour of the day which seems volunteer run. Our guide gave a great overview of Wing Lukes impact, the mission of the museum, the historical ties to the communities, while also linking his own upbringing and memories of the Seattle he remembers growing up for context. He brought it all back to my partner and I who come from second generation immigrant families and how important it is to recognize their sacrifice so that we may live a better life than they did.

Our museum tour guide/educator Sami (sorry if I misspelled) was super informative and I really enjoyed stories and histories behind the exhibits (general store, apartment/hotel). Bruce Lee exhibit was the main reason for my visit but Ive gain a better understanding and greater appreciation for Asian cultures.

The Wing Luke offered one of the best museum experiences for me. I left in an extremely emotional state. Being half-Japanese, I have always been deeply fascinated with my culture, yet perpetually estranged from it. I can visit all the museums I like or even Japan itself, but being American often divided me from Japan. However, the purpose of this museum was to provide the Asian American experience, and it offers an extremely educated approach. The museum offers information about and/or cultural artifacts from American immigrants from East, South, and Central Asia, as well as the Middle East. It is hard to ignore the message that no matter how broad Asia is geographically, we have all been viewed or treated in the same way in America: as outsiders. What made this so apparent to me was the fake Hunting Licenses, that used the same terminology for hunting and killing Japanese during WWII and Muslim immigrants after 9/11. Like African and Latin American descendants, so too were Asians compared to animals. Like all minorities, so too are Asians subject to mass-murders and genocide in their hometowns, and must often flee to places such as North America for refuge. Immigrants come here to escape horror, but they experience it right when they land, though verbal and visual assault may be more muted forms of violence. However, the museum did not sulk in depravity, but empowered its Asian American visitors with cultural artifacts and exhibits of their success here. This took the form of a section dedicated to coffee and tea, and how Taiwanese, Japanese, and Indian shop owners to name a few made a living here. It even features the owner of Seattle Best Tea, a shop just down the street from a restaurant. We went and visited the woman after and she was a friendly and funny person who definitely knew her herbs and tea. Finally, there was a Bruce Lee exhibit, a figure that we all may recognize but few understand. Lee was extremely philosophical, and that shows in his poetry and martial arts. He was a deep person with purpose and an interesting background, but also maybe the only hero that Asians in the past could look up to here.

This is one of the best museums in the Seattle area. Free on first Thursdays and well worth the admission on other days.Step into the museum and explore the rich history of Asian Americans in the US and in Seattle. Take the tour and walk through a hotel from the 1890, seeing what it was like to be an Asian immigrants at a time when they had to live in hotels, because it was illegal to own homes. Learn more than you think you can and leave even more curious than before. From the hotel and the preserved apothecary and shop, which can be seen only via guided tour, to the museum halls which showcase more modern artworks and stories impacting us now, you really cant miss. Learn about Bruce Lees connection to the Seattle area and be inspired by the strength and success of the people here, before stopping by the fun gift store on the way out.The museum and hotel can be made accessible by elevator and if you ask at the front desk, they will provide you with a token to store any items you dont wish to carry, in a locker. Great for families and individuals.

The history and culture that is present in the area is absolutely phenomenal. The guide we had and staff were welcoming and kind. I would love to go back here again. Walking through the buildings during the tour was one of my favorite parts. It truly felt like time traveling, and the experience was so enlightening and informative. The way that they preserved and presented the history of community was impactful. And each area had its own story and life to it that really cant be described in words. You get to walk the same paths that these people walked, you get to see what was known as home to them. Their life and histories is present in the buildings and in the community. And the conditions of the structures and the make up of them tells stories of the work and effort they put into their homes. The Wing Luke Museum wasnt just a museum, it was a journey. From past to present this area remains truly a special place.

An unexpected surprise, and a wonderful opportunity to explore and learn about Bruce Lee, the Chinese community, and the greater Asian community in the Seattle area. Truly a gem of a place that was discovered entirely by chance when my party was going over brochures for things to do in the area. I must say this is truly a cultural experience. As a traveller you will become desperate for these cultural experiences as most of the Seattle area feels like a massive shopping centre.I’ll point out that the Wing Luke Museum features 2 different tours surrounding the Bruce Lee exhibits. One is a general admission tour, while the other is a more engaged 3 hour tour that includes a visit to one of Bruce Lee’s favourite restaurants in the area. You are asked to try and book your tickets in advance to allow the staff to coordinate the logistics.Upon arrival, the area is as old and worn as any Chinatown. If you chose the 3 hour tour, the area comes alive as the guide walks you through the neighbourhood where Bruce Lee lived, worked, and dreamed for the future. I must say that this was a highlight of the trip.I encourage you to walk the streets shared by Bruce Lee, his friends, and his family.

I was SO glad I made time for this small community history museum. The Bruce Lee exhibit was fun, but the real highlight here is the tour that takes you next door to the old Chinese grocery store with artefacts from decades of neighborhood sales, and the tour of the SRO that housed Asian immigrants to the Seattle area from early 1900s to 1974. Tour guides are informative and genuine, with deep connections to the Seattle International District (formerly Chinatown. Reserve 1.5 hrs and check tour schedules. Dont miss visiting the old hotel attached to the museum.

An excellent place to learn about the different cultures and stories of all the Asian American experiences here in the country. Interactive, family friendly, though provoking, educational. A local gem that is nationally renowned and respected in the museum world. Almost a shame that more out-of-towners come through than locals.

Fantastic and comprehensive museum the covers a very important but often overlooked chapter of Seattle history. Beautifully curated and preserved, make sure to get there for one of the tours that takes you through the old historic hotel and next door shop, which will give you a sense of what it must have been like to arrive in Seattle in the 1930s. Bonus points for covering not just Chinese American history, but also the diaspora of the Vietnamese, Indian, Filipino, and Thai populations of the Pacific Northwest.
