I have no doubt that at some point in history this was a beautiful park that people and familys came to enjoy the day. Now its just the block that you avoid if you find it a bit sketchy to walk by a whole lot of dwelling challenged individuals. Might as well put up some apartments here and maybe elevate the park to the top of the building for the residence. Maybe then the people actually paying taxes in San Jose could have a shot of using the space.

Ok this is between a 3 and 4 star. No lies or BS there is a homeless presence and drug dealing but they seem to keep to themselves. I spent an entire day here with no issues at all, no one asked for money really interacted with me at all. The childrens area is MASSIVE and fenced in and not encroached upon by the unfortunate situation the homeless are forced to endure. There were at least 2 individuals with rolling trash cans and clean up equipment. They were friendly and doing a awesome job picking up the park, and they had to be doing there jobs cause random trash was very hard to find. Overall nice old park, lots grass and space to find ur own spot. Would recommend but caution if the presence of homeless and some drug dealers and occasionally a wandering screaming person offend then this place is not for you.

Its my neighborhood park. They put on all sort of theatre, music and cinema events--its a great place to watch a movie in the summer evenings. Its a real, big-city park and it is home to all that comes with being downtown, but its got a lot of character, a dog park, a playground and a fountain stage. Its also surrounded by a ton of San José history.

Very tranquil park. Lots of homeless but no trouble. San Jose has done a fine job addressing them with the volunteering orgs. I Usually I get off here from the 181 so I like that its a marker for where to get on and off the bus from the East Bay.

Parks okay. It has a decent doggie area. Lots of homeless folks hanging around at times. But not intrusive like San Francisco.

Among the few parks in San Jose downtown, we prefers this park than others. We like that this park more spacious, has more trees and more seating benchs, not to mention that the park is surrounded by beautiful historical buildings and landmarks. And yes, there are some homeless people here, so far we dont encounter any problems with them.

This can potentially be a beautiful park area. Unfortunately, it has been taken over by those who are homeless. I pray & hope we, as a community, can get the homelessness resolved soon for we do have a very dysfunctional, broken system to stably & effectively help them.

Went there with kids. Felt unsafe with homeless ppl around. One woman actually shouted at me when I was leaving. I was with a kid, so I just ran to my car :)This is beautiful area. If San Jose can not fix the homelessness problem, it should remove the kids play area from this park (homeless ppl have put their shelter in it). There should be warning messages to families to stay away from this park.

Not a bad place to chill or jog during the day. Contact with the homeless does not have to be a negative thing if you apply a little empathy. Do not give up on an area using preconceived notions that may not be true. Thanks

Consistently dirty and smells of urine, the entire park. The city should build a large homeless shelter so they dont have to spend all day and night in this park. Im pretty sure they can afford it, I pay a ton of taxes. Then children might have somewhere to play in downtown San Jose.

Apparently no one likes to clean their dogs poop at the dog park here. Pretty shameful as it is such a large space and could be really great. I literally had to bathe my pup after going here because he had rolled in poo running from another dog. super fun.. The grassy areas around the dog park are also always loaded with trash, hes still young and our drop it isnt good yet so i have to be very careful. probably wont take him back again anytime soon.

St. JAMES park..... where the homeless gather, kind of their home. It feels pretty sketchy and unsafe. Except when the city of san jose kicks them out for the bicycle gathering ... i forget what its called. So its not like the city doesnt know there is a problem there, they just choose not to do anything about it.

The park is really beautiful. It has a new dog park, a kids playground, calisthenics workout area (my favorite), and a wide array of events that happen mostly during the summer amongst other things. Unfortunately most of the park has been taken over by homeless people with nowhere to go and drug abusers. Its also heavily patrolled by undercover SJPD officers and a frequent stop for law enforcement. All in all its a good park worth checking out.

Its a dump with outdoor toilets that the homeless sleep in. They have clean signs that tell you its a drug free area, which would be a plus til you trip over someone ODing on heroin. I chose two stars because an adult was watching children play with needles in the park. At least someone cared enough to watch it happen. It might be the best part of San Jose, as just a few blocks away is a childrens museum where the homeless have set up camp within yards of the entrance.

Its a huge 6 to 8 acre city park, featuring playgrounds, picnic facilities and spots. It also has a jogging track and exercise course. It is home to many homeless people . They carry their stuff and hide it in the trees or under benches and also go to sleep on the grassy field. There are fountains all around the park. Also the birds chirping adds to the beauty of the park. The mono rail is another attraction for visitors. It goes to and fro from the city and back.

It is always filled with people that sleep in the park. The homeless have little options in this city so they usually go to Saint James. My husband would always buy his dime bags of weed here. Or any other substances he was looking for. I would not take my child there. It is more suitable for adults.
