I went to the Safeway and they ran out of firewood. When we walked out we saw some old dude on a pick-up truck parked on the Safeway lot with a huge stash of firewood for 10 bucks. We got to the beach and started our bon Fire. It’s better to start it when is close to getting dark cause it gets really cold. Plus its better at night cause people bring glow sticks and looks mad cool. I recommend bringing a blanket, a jacket and some fireworks .

Such a beautiful location. The sunset was nice to watch. The waves were soothing & peaceful. So many doggos to see & admire. The sand is so nice & there is plenty of space so one doesnt feel crowded. I did go on a monday so maybe thats why theres werent many people. Everyone kept distance & respected space. Thats very important these pandemic days. If you plan on visiting keep safe & clean. Talking about cleaning the beach is very clean, I saw no big trash. The only things I saw were two straws & one cigarette bud. Those were picked up & disposed of properly. I gave nothing but good thoughts of this beach. I highly recommend visiting when it is safe to do so.

Great beach to relax with family and/or friends. Dog friendly and a section of the beach allows bonfires. The sign say bonfires only permitted in pits but a bunch of beach goers where building their fire in the sand. A good alternative on the weekends when pits are all occupied.

Day or night Ocean Beach is a great spot for a time out, for digging your toes in the sand, or a splash in the waves. On busy sunny days it can be a challenge finding parking, but even on the busiest days its chill vibes + a huge stretch of beach & sand for the masses to enjoy!I used to bonfire here with friends all the time as a young adult. The fire pits that have been added since are a nice, needed touch.

No fire pits on the beach right now, not that its stopped people from having bonfires. Tough part is that there are hardly any garbage cans at the beach. Really have to look in the parking lot for garbage cans.

Ju
Review №8

Lots of fire pits! We got the last pit on a Saturday at around 1pm. Better to get here early to hold one or just do what a lot of people do and dig a pit in the sand for your fire. Definitely gets more and more crowded as it gets closer to sunset. No one really wearing a mask here

This is a nice place for walks along the beach. You will find many activities along Ocean Beach including wind surfing, stand up paddle boarding, dog walking, and the occasional camping. While I have seen people go in for a swim with trunks, I do not recommend swimming as the water is usually pretty cold. All surfers I have seen use body suits. The location has seasonal fire pits and dogs are allowed to be off leash. Overall, this is a fun family friendly beach to experience while visiting San Francisco, the city by the bay.

Ocean beach is a wonderful beach however there can be so much trash and it is not patrolled! A group of teenagers were drinking like crazy, first fighting and left at least 3 trash bags of garbage behind. Real shame as most will end up in the ocean.

This is really nice and super clean beach. The best thing about it is you can do a bonfire on the beach. Usually it is crowded but you can definitely find spot there. I have been there multiple times with my friends mostly late night. Its very safe as well. The water is very cold though so one might not be able to go into it. And its always very windy so do carry light jacket.

One of the few places to have a bonfire on the beach, which is nice. Not wheelchair accessible down to the water but you can view the waves from the sidewalk of the parking lot if no ones able to carry you down. The police make a swipe through the parking lot in the evening to make everyone get out so this isnt a late night spot. Just went to enjoy the waves and the full moon, always nice to be near the ocean even for a quick visit.

As a lover of beaches, Ocean Beach, on the western tip of the San Francisco peninsula, is one of the most serene and lovely places to experience a beach, especially for the first time.Ample parking off the Great Highway and easy access start the introduction. From your car you gaze off into the distance, trying to grasp the imenseness that lay before you. As you descend the sea wall stairs you land lightly on the fine to medium grained sand, explore an expansive beach, a fire ring, or a gently sloping tidal edge. Energized by the fresh air, the ions or the magnatite rich sand youll find yourself headed to one of the fine restraunts located across the road or up on the hill. An antidote to what ails, this is a beautiful and peaceful and recentering place that will continue to call you back.

Beautiful spot to go for an evening walk. The sun sets to the west so it’s perfect for this beach. Walk down to the more southern part of the beach and there becomes less and less people it seems. Although the top end isn’t too busy either, so if you don’t mind people then you don’t have to walk as far! There are some dunes about quarter of a mile down from the Safeway which was a good place to sit. Lots of dog walkers on the each so if you have a fear of dogs you probably shouldn’t go, or if your dog doesn’t like other dogs I would recommend somewhere else!

Beautiful and easy free parking! As an out of town visitor it’s good to know there’s not a restroom that I could see. We arrived at this lovely, soft beach to have a winter solstice bonfire and realized that there are no fires allowed for a couple of months. Otherwise clean, quite windy, and a little nerve wracking with the undertow for those with little ones.

I love Ocean Beach!! Its got a huge, open parking lot that can get hectic during the summer but it almost feels like a giant tailgate party. Not everyone is drinking but there is a lot of partying that happens at the fire pits on the rare, warm days in SF. The view of the ocean is amazing no matter where youre situated, car or beach. There are trash cans all along the paved pathway but not everyone throws away their bon fire trash overall, fairly clean beach thats fun to walk on, picnic on, or just sit and look at.

My babies love coming here. Its different each year we come. 6 years ago it was alot different than this year. New pits and new closing times of 930pm instead of the old 11pm we were used to from years before. Still very good and we werent bothered to put our fire out. In fact noone showed up as it approached 10pm but we always leave on our own once the fire is burnt out anyways.

Great place to walk no matter the weather. Plenty free parking spots. They even have portable potty services now. Our hard earned tax dollars well spent IMHO.For the fire pits, please do not bring/burn Duraflame in these fire pits. They are made out of chemicals and your food and/or airspace will be filled with a burning chemical smell. Ruins your/our health and the surrounding atmosphere. Please bring real firewood. Clean up after use and yourselves. Check for “no burn” days, else you could get a ticket. Be smart. Be safe. Thanks.

These pits are circular and they are made to contain fires. You will need a fire if you are going to stop walking here or you will most likely get cold. I would suggest using wood from the limbs of trees or other such burnable products like a stack of pallets or parts of an unused shack that your neighbors decided to tear down. The wind generally blows in off of the ocean so you will find out quickly what is the best side of the fire pit to sit or stand. It might be a good idea to have your neighbors shack tested for lead paint before burning it in this circular beach front fire pit.

It would be better if it werent being dug up.The fire pits are nice for sunsets because it gets cold here even during the day, but at night its freezing. Plan ahead if you are thinking fire pit funset, bring wood and get your space and hour or two prior to sunset or you may be outta luck.

Dog friendly beach. Plenty of parking. We got warm drinks from the Safeway nearby and had our beach bonfire while I ate my giant donut from Bob’s Donuts. We walked along the beach when it was dark and found several perfect sand dollars. Just be careful when walking in the dark that you don’t step on jellyfish. There were a ton of them on the beach. There are several signs that this beach is NOT FOR SWIMMING.

I met my climber friend Justin from Colorado here by accidentally stealing his fire.He was in town doing some temp HVAC work in a building with high ceilings. In his time off long he boarded over to check out the beach and decided to start a fire. He had left it unattended to find more wood when my friend and I happened upon his still smoking pit and used the embers to start up a bigger fire.Justin returned and added his new logs to the fire. I offered him some beer and pizza, and he stayed to celebrate my friends and my birthday. We traded life stories into the sunset.

Experienced my first bonfire here for a celebration of work friends. It was an amazing time in a perfect location. Plenty of parking, large fire pit, ample space between pits. Get there VERY early to save your fire pit and bring wood! As the evening gets late, I learned people will try to poach some of your firewood so keep an eye on it. Bring layers and the cops do show up right at closing time with large, very bright lights to remind you to leave. :)
