Beautiful gate, if you’re taking a photo with it, cross the street into Chinatown and get the view from the back of the gate. Quick search informs that “San Franciscos Chinatown is the largest Chinatown outside of Asia, as well as the oldest in North America” which is pretty cool. Love the atmosphere and stores. Some of the infrastructure of the buildings still have that historic look which gives old school Chinatown vibes

Very cool site to visit while in San Francisco. The guardian lions on each side have some pretty neat symbolism. The male lion with his right front paw on a pearl which symbolizes guarding the structure or empire. The female lion stands with her left front paw on a juvenile lion, symbolically guarding the occupants within. All of the decorative tiles were donated by Taiwan ROC. The columns are traditional for Chinese gates since they are made of stone. It is also a nice place to watch people as the come and go into China Town. The gate leads into an area filled with many sh

A classic destination to visit. As far as entrances to Chinatowns go, the Dragon’s Gate is a top tier entrance. The single lane road entrance makes it easy to take a picture in front of the gate.Enjoy the trees around the entrance to the gate. There are two ways to enter through miniature gates: on the left or on the right. There are a number of metal statues near the gate, you can take a picture with the metal statues while you’re near the Dragon’s Gate.If you plan on visiting Chinatown, this is definitely the entrance of choice. Haven’t seen a gateway like this, in my opinion this is the best Chinatown and the Dragon’s Gate is the emblem of Chinatown in San Francisco.TL;DR: When visiting Chinatown, enter through the Dragon’s Gate. Take a picture in front when traffic is light.

The Dragons Gate could not be a more fitting introduction to Chinatown. Flanking both of the entrances sides are two guardion lion statues you typically see in Chinese-themed places. If you look at those statues closely, you can see small flakes of dried paint on them. The Gate also opens to a steep incline that is not unusual for that portion of San Francisco but seems especially appropriate in this context. Its almost as if the hill represents a passing dragon ascending toward its home. I, unfortunately, visited Chinatown in the morning, when most establishments were closed. But even then I could discern the characteristics of a vibrant city sub-culture just waiting to light up. Speaking of lights, youll see rows of Japanese lanterns lining some streets deeper within as well as some notably Japanese stores. It became clear to a complete newcomer like me that there was more to Chinatown than the name alone suggests.

Very nice and memorable entrance to the San Franciscos Chinatown, which, as far as I know, is the biggest in the United States. A lot of different things to see, buy (souvenirs mostly) and eat. Very affordable and very nice to visit if you have the time during your stay at San Francisco.

A must do while visiting San Francisco.I’d recommend you take a Chinatown walk around 8pm. You’ll most likely find parking at this time in the actual streets of Chinatown. You’ll enjoy the lights, and will feel as if you are no longer in the US. Asian style music is being played around that time in different condos. I’d strongly recommend you do a little research on this gate and it’s meaning before visiting it. There’s a gate for Males to make a wish, and a gate for females to make a wish (Love , health or prosperity). Sorry, no gender neutral gate. Legend goes: Your wish should become true in as fast as 24h, according to your karma it could take months or years. Wishes always become true, and the day it fails to become true, the gate will fall and break into pieces...

There are few places in California where you feel like you are in a different country. Chinatown is full of such wonderful spicy earthy smells: incenses, fire works, fresh dumplings, and bees soap. So many shops to explore hidden treasures and find fun gifts. Stop by the fortune cookie factory to get your sexy fortunes. Grab some dim sum at one of the many dim sum restaurants. Buy your veggies because its from the farm and half the price of the farmers market. And its beginning to look a lot like a Chinese New year celebration.. if you are lucky, catch the parade- let the Lions dance for you- and enjoy the fireworks!

San Francisco Chinatown: Bargain Before You BuyNext to Golden Gate Bridge, what’s the most popular must-see in San Francisco? Yes, Chinatown! If you think seeing one Chinatown in Kolkata means you’ve seen them all, you’d be wrong. San Francisco Chinatown is the largest Chinatown outside Asia and the oldest Chinatown in the complete North America. The history and culture of the city, the state of California and the country itself are closely interwoven with the neighbourhood. How to get there? Well, it’s just half-a-mile walk from the Union Square. Set out at the “heart” of the city and stroll five blocks along Stockton Street. At the corner of Bush and Grant Street, the famous Dragons Gate is ready to welcome you and youll enter a crowded, chaotic, yet compact colony in awe. The area is huge. You can literally spend a whole day here shopping and eating “Americanized Chinese” dim sums. Of course, money is honey here if you wanna buy and bargain nick-knacks, San Francisco mark souvenirs, decorations, and artworks. It seems everything here is uphill from everything else. And what better way to work off all that dim sum than to walk uphill both ways?!

Wonderful place to start your sightseeing experience in San Francisco. The dragons gate located at the corner of Grant and Bush is a San Francisco landmark not to be missed. You has many different options for walking tours starting out at the dragons gate. You could head north along Grant Avenue to see the most quintessential street in all of Chinatown. You could head east and continue along Bush Street and let the wonderful downhill walk take you into San Franciscos financial district. If you head south for a few blocks you will find yourself in a shopping mecca known as union square.

A good place to enter Chinatown San Francisco. SFs Chinatown district is quite large, and is the oldest US and probably most established Chinatown in the Unite States. The Dragons gate itself is a good marker for the entrance to Chinatowns main high street, and is a good place to enter, and it is blocked off from street traffic, thus you can comfortably walk up a hill into Chinatown without worrying about being run over by traffic. The entrance is flanked by shops selling high-end sculptures, including jade sculptures/carvings - not all of the sculptures are of Far-Eastern styles or origin, there are a lot of European (origin and style) sculpures/carvings too.
