What an amazing part of our history so much to see and learn. To think men went to war in these and many never came home. The free audio tour that comes with your tick is a great enhancement. We were lucky in that there were not a lot of visitors, I can see where it could get crowded. Well worth the $20 adult admission

That was amazing! And, also, makes me extremely grateful Ive never had to live in one! Submarines must be on the top 10 list of most steampunk things ever built. The fact that any of those wheels, knobs, or switches ever worked is impressive, let alone all at the same time!

Very good WWII sub near pier 39 in San Francisco. Good audio tour taking you through the whole submarine ship. $20 for adults and $15 for youth. They give a pretty significant discount for military. Lots of good history. Kids really enjoyed it(age 11 and 12) as did I (age...older than 12) Worth the money in my opinion.

My two kids and I got there right when it opened on a Sunday at 9am. We pretty much had the entire sub to ourselves, which was amazing. The free audio tour was well done and added a lot of value to the experience, even keeping my 7 and 9 year old entertained. It was awesome to take a walk through history and appreciate the conditions that our sailors endured for our country. Admission was a bit pricy for the 45-minute audio tour ($20 adults, $10 for kids, though it is San Francisco), but it was worth it to contribute to such an important museum. Visitors must be physically able to go up and down very steep stairs and be able to step through reasonably small bulkhead hatches.Highly recommended for adults and kids alike.

A very well-preserved WW-II boat (submarine). Be sure to request the audio tour - it makes a huge difference. My only nit, and its a small one, is that most of the rooms are blocked by clear plexiglass preventing us from getting an in-depth feel of the boat.

Great for war/ WW2 history buffs in this historic submarine. Located close to fishermans wharf/pier 39, getting here is no problem and not hard. Dont come here if you are claustrophobic or cannot climb steep ladders, since the quarters of the submarine are tight and can only be accessed by ladders. Audio guide is provided. Admission is included with Go San Francisco card.

This was one of the best things Ive ever been a part of. Now Ive been all over the world and to see one of these subs was insane. We did the audio tour and to be honest the equipment was a bit run down but hey...it worked I guess. Now the audio tour consists of a hand full of true seaman who lived, and worked upon the USS Pampanito. To hear there stories and the way they lived under water was awesome. To imagine and be in the same floor as 75 to 80 submarine seamen was insane. A must see everyone.

USS Pampanito is an incredible piece of history. I would highly recommend the audio tour set to the voices of its real veteran crew members with actual sounds of what a submarine sounds like when its fully operational. It is an extremely immersive experience and you get to experience it vicariously through how the crew members felt various emotions in combat and in peace times. It certainly left an indelible mark in my memory and much respect to these men who commandeered it everyday knowing it could be their last. I visited the USS Pampanito in July and it was not crowded at all. HIghly recommended if you are in the Fishermans Wharf area.

The tour of this sub was ok. It was fun to see the close living quarters and cramped space these men had to deal with while navigating the ocean, but it certainly wasn’t my favorite. For me, it was too small and I enjoyed just walking through quickly. If you don’t mind close quarters and walking around while swaying in the water, you may love learning about the history behind it. For me it isn’t something I’d do again. I would have much preferred to your the large ship with more space and time to tell more history.

This visit to a maintained submarine from that time was an experience I will not forget.I was lucky enough to have bumped into Grampa Sam and toured the boat with this former submariner who served on a submarine exactly like the Pampanito. This boat was a trip back in time to a period of U.S. history that cannot be forgotten. This is a MUST SEE while your in San Francisco. Youll get to see nearly the whole boat! From the torpedoes to the mess, the toilets to the combat center! This is a rare and unique experience you should not pass up.

The submarine tour was pretty cool. You genuinely get to go into a WW2 submarine from end-to-end. However, I think they couldve done so much more. Yes, you get an audio tour and we didnt have the opportunity to trigger it. But compared to the ticket prices, the submarine internals arent simply that large. Despite going through all the nooks and crevices, we were done in 20 mins or so (very few others were around).I think this maritime museum definitely has substance. But I do think that crafting the experience around it wouldve been much better, starting from pre-boarding, learning about the basics of the submarine, etc. and then finally seeing what one has learned within the actual submarine, and so forth. This just shows that a lot of historical museums lack funding and donations to properly design and craft visitor experience. Decent experience but again, a bit too short for the price.
