No bad sight lines to the stage and good audio as well, this theater is as beautiful as it is functional. Where it falls short is the VIP style amenities, but its a great place to see a show.

Its the best theatre experience I ever had. The night was epic! I was serving row, I could feel the spit as they recalled great stories. After it was over, I looked up to the balcony to see a friend that had bragged about getting seats from his friend, Earlonne Woods. I guess it really is who you know that runs the theater.

Beautiful theatre, great shows there, easily accessible by public transit as well - support them - performing arts enhances our quality of life and this theater brings it! (Drinks at the bar are way too expensive tho so watch out for that - $50 bucks for 2 drinks, really?! I dont care if you do let us take the cup home, that cost is stupid insane)... otherwise, go and enjoy a show!

First time visiting Golden Gate Theatre to see Anastasia. Beautiful theatre, very clean. Comfortable chairs and great view and sound quality. Lobby seems like it could be a little bit of a tight fit but ushers got us in, very organized and timely. One thing I did not like however, was feeling rushed getting our drinks. Bartender could have waited just a few minutes longer. Overall, enjoyable night and experience

The staff is super attentive and friendly. They get 5 stars. The 4 stars is for the location and they can’t help that, sorry. Otherwise it’s a beautiful theatre and the staff were very attentive to my mother’s needs—she had knee surgery and cannot go up and down stairs so they steered her to the same level restroom instead of the lower level one. We saw Anastasia which in itself is absolutely fantastic and so well done and ginormously enjoyable. Thanks to everyone for a lovely time!

Millions of dollars pour in through your venue, I assume from the able bodied only? Your venue does not disclose that the property has no ELEVATOR! Do better for those who are disabled and can’t climb stairs. Offer ground floor tickets, change seats whatever it takes, but don’t shrug your shoulders and have your event staff say, “too bad “

The recent restoration of the theater is great. I always thought there was something more buried under layers of paint and past remodeling..One thing I we have found if you are attending a show there - even if your tickets are on the main floor, go to the bar upstairs, it is much less crowded with a lot more space to enjoy your beverage.

I love this theatre, but it is usually hot because they dont have air conditioning. Mezzanine tickets are best. Unfortunately, until San Francisco cleans up their city, I will not be back. It is located in the dirtiest, most crime and homeless place in the city. Filth on every street all the way from the Powell BART stop through the 2 block walk to the theatre. Human excrement on the sidewalk, right across the theatre. So sad. This city used to be so beautiful, but now I truly fear for my safety.

The theatre itself is great!!!! Its a nice venue and I enjoyed it. Unfortunately, its location in SF leaves much to be desired because its close to the Tenderloin and skid row. The city govt should put porta potties in that area so homeless people wont poop on the sidewalks, hire drug counselors for the addicts, and make it difficult to loiter/fight/sell drugs in the area.

Drink prices are worse than sports arena prices. Nearly $12 for a 16 oz soda?! MUCH MORE for alcoholic beverages. Get real! They only wand you when you enter, so might be worth bringing a boda bag and done snacks with you. Seats in balcony dont leave much leg room for tall people. Fortunately, the theater was only at about 60% capacity so I could move freely. Sound system, lighting, and backdrops were good. Saw Summer. Decent show overall, but one of the 3 Donnas went way off key almost every time she attempted high notes. 3 stars for being unimpressed with theater overall. Rating doesnt include the show. Show would rate about the same though. Ok, but not great. Had more fun on the BART ride with friends than at the theater.

Watched Annie & Beautiful, Carol King Story at The Golden Gate Theater. Easy to find, easy parking... Kinda rough Street Tenants. Most of the ushers and employees were courteous, doing their job, I guess. 1 lady was pretty rough around the edges for working in a strictly public service setting. For some reason she was just a bit more biased towards the older Eurasian folks.Watch the type of drinks you order, bought a Capt Morgan w Coke for my brother, not sure if $22 is justifiable for a 1.25oz pour(Im a retired bartender)Other than her the usher w the short boy cut hair, the rest of the experience was very enjoyable. Also, I love all things theater...

I found the acoustics to be lacking. However Madonna brings a “big” sound that fills arenas so it was a mismatch in my opinion. The seating is not wonderful but mostly we all stood and danced so hardly mattered. The handicap restrooms(2) are not meant to have the masses. There’reperfectly new & large ones on upper & lower but there was no staff to point that out. Being challenged I didn’t appreciate to have to do stairs. All in all I had a great time because I saw Madonna for once in San Francisco where I live!️

Love seeing the SHN season here and really happy this theater was renovated! The restrooms are much bigger and the space is beautiful. My only complaint are the seats in the Mezzanine and Balcony. Im 58 and my knees are jammed into the back of the seat of the person in front of me and youre often touching arms with the person next to you. If they had given their patrons a bit more room in the rows and seats it would be a 5 star review!!

A wonderful theatre! I got seats in the back of the orchestra and still had a wonderful view of the entire set. Since its on the smaller side of theatres, there arent any bad seats. This theater is simply gorgeous. The classical elegance has been restored fully! You feel like youre in for a truly special experience walking up the carpeted steps. Of course that hasnt been true with SHNs current season, since its garbage BUT, its still a beautiful theater! My only complaint (after the current content, which is NOT the theaters fault), is the parking! If youre seeing a show on the weekend, you may be looking at a $30+ parking fee. Ugh. Thats SF though.

You wouldnt know its in the heart of the Tenderloin. Old, clean, great view from almost all seats, roomy. Saw Hello Dolly, didnt expect much because I didnt really remember the movie, lol, but oh.my.gosh what an awesome freaking show. I loved it! You would want to take a rideshare there and order your rideshare before you come out. Takes a lonnnnng time for the cars to get there because the one way streets. Parking is sparse and expensive. I love that the Golden Gate Theatre is back after being remodeled so beautifully. Its the perfect size to see Broadway musicals and has good seats with ample legroom. Its on the edge of the Tenderloin but if you approach it from Market Street its not too bad. Its 4 blocks away but I prefer parking at the large garage on 4th and Mission for ease of leaving the city. Minus one star because no theatre has enough bathrooms for the fact that 75% of its patrons are women.

Its beautiful inside.. but all the seats are really far away from the stage, even the pit seats. The orchestra seats are at least 20 feet away to 120 feet away and the balcony seats are even farther away. Not the most ideal place to watch a small production with intricate deatails.

Review №74

The be shows here are excellent, the stage has great visibility from most locations, and the sound quality is decent, but not perfect. The lobby is very small and crowded. If you arrive on the early side, be prepared to stand outside on the narrow street. If you buy an SHN branded souvenir plastic cup with a lid, you can take your drink in with you. You can bring it back time and time again. Also works at other SHN locations.
