Fantastic place to hike. You can spot scrub jay birds, owls, woodpeckers and other wildlife. It is about 2 miles round-trip, so it is a smooth workout. It al leveled, no hills or difficulty of any sort. The trails are well marked. Parking is very limited, about 5 vehicles only, so be prepared. Take your camera, water, and good walking shoes or boots. No camping, picnic or barbecue allowed

What a fabulous hidden gem. Very inconspicuous little turn off of Barnes Blvd. No pets and no feeding allowed.Trails are clearly visible with small signage. We wandered for two miles. The scrub jays may come to you if you’re standing still.

I had a great time today! There are very brave blue jays there! Came and ate right out of my hand . I just plucked and opened a few acorns and whistled to them and they are right from my hand! Awesome.

The best place to find Florida Scrub jays! I am a photographer and very badly wanted to photograph and visited few other suggested places. This place basically welcomed me with few scrub jays! Also, it is just a 1.09 mile loop and you get to see other birds like Northern Mockingbird, Red-bellied woodpecker, brown thrasher, an osprey nest to name a few.Definitely recommend this place to bird photographers!

Nice simple park with a 1.09 mile trail thru the scrub. Be careful during rainy weather, parking and trail are just dirt. Lots of wild bunnies in addition to the birds. Wear a hat.

Nice scrub sanctuary, although it is surrounded by suburbia. You can hear planes, dogs barking, and cars going by at certain parts of the sanctuary. I would take an hour at least to walk the trails. The parking lot is very small, and there are no facilities here, including bathrooms. No benches or picnic tables, either. The one thing that makes this sanctuary spectacular is the families of endangered Florida Scrub Jays. They are quite inquisitive and friendly, and its easy to get some great photos. Observing these birds in their natural habitat is awesome. Whatever you do, please do NOT feed these birds. Its bad for them to depend on humans for food, and its also illegal. Dogs are NOT allowed here because of the endangered jays. Park is not open 24 hours as previously stated on this Google page, the hours are DAWN TO DUSK. Ive included a picture with the sign.

Fantastic place to enjoy a walk in nature! There is a marked trail which is approximately a mile long and takes you through pineland scrub habitat. You can also walk along the fire breaks to have an even longer walk if youd like. The Scrub Jays are very friendly, but as a reminder please do not feed them.

This is a hidden gem I almost dont want to publicly review so that it stays wild, serene and beautiful. I just wish everyone who visited it would clean up after themselves instead of leaving food trash around. Little do they know there is plenty of wild native berries to forage here in season if you know where to look. Curious blue scrub Jays abound if you are lucky- be respectful and calm around them. There are also lots of tiny but brilliant Florida wildflowers here throughout the year. The trails here are great for trail runners or light mountain biking (easy enough for kids- no major roots or Hills). Towards the back of the trail there are these majestic pine tree snags that emerge out of the palmetto scrub. It reminds me of being in Africa.

Very peaceful place to visit. Lots of birds. Mostly blue jays. If your patient...you will see colorful birds. Bring some binoculars. Some rabbits. Lots of enjoyable trails. There are a couple platforms to view the wildlife. A nice little creek and bridge to walk across. There is a peace out here. A quiet. There is a few trails to run on. Or walk. The sanctuary is a big place. Word to the wise...there are no public restrooms!! And no drinking fountains. Please be advised of this. And be prepared. There is also not alot of shade trees. Mostly younger trees and scrub bush. I meditate out here. Find tranquility. And that is important in life. So enjoy it for all mother nature has and is.

Review №47

It was a nice walk, but do not go after a rainy day, unless you are wearing rain boots or boat shoes. A portion of the sanctuary is rocky, and it doesn’t allow for the water to be absorbed. In order to get back to the car without walking another couple miles, we had to go ankle deep in water that for some reason looked red.We did see a bunny and a blue jay though! It was definitely an adventure!
