Great place for a walk. View of the bay. So much cleaner (and safer for wild birds) since dogs are not allowed anymore. Love this place
Nice, wide walking/running/biking trail which is about 2 miles long in the wetlands full of bay area animals. Good informational signs on the work that has gone on to get the wildlife to start to thrive again.
A nice quiet walk with some simple birds to watch and smells of the bay. Easy to get to and open parking. Just pleasant really if nothing special. Good upfront map of the trails and little information blurbs.
I hate to let the secret out bc people will overwhelm this gem of a refuge. Its a fantastic place to bird and enjoy the bay from a unique perspective. Come and enjoy but please be respectful so everyone can enjoy. One advice, after you get pass the gate and get to the info board, go right toward the bay to get to the wooden deck. Enjoy! Cheers…
I have been coming to this place since I was a kid (1990). At that time it was a full circle and if You wanted You would cut right thru the middle. Great place to jog, bicycling, walk and relax. I like it how it was before, but I dont mind the improvements that have been made for the benefit of the wildlife. Kids love it now just like I did when I was a Kid. Benches are plentiful if they get a little tired.
Lovely place for a run near the city. It can get hot as there is no tree cover, so might be good to wear a hat on hot days.
Nice trail, but sometimes the water level is low and there definitely is the low tide smell
Relaxing... quite... lots of birds too..
Become a pivotal part of Marsh land conservation by logging your pics in and notating bird species in the area for its continued sustainability. Controlled duck hunting is allowed by permit just register and follow the rules and regulations. Happy hunting!
We got to see a plethora of birds, a snakeskin, and I think we saw some wild rodents. I dont recall if the trail we were on was paved or not, however it was flat and wide and my power wheelchair had no issues on it whatsoever. There is no natural shade at all, so if you go on an exceptionally sunny day youll probably want sunscreen and plenty of water
Nice flat trail with opportunities for viewing wildlife, though most are far away and require binoculars to get a good look. Surrounded by highway and pretty hot due to no trees. It would benefit from measures to reduce noise/appearance of the highway. But if thats the kind of hike youre looking for, its here. I am glad this place exists because its important to wildlife.
Nice trail within a short drive. A little bit of highway noise, but overall a nice additional park!
Its close to where I lived so the convenience cant be beat. However, plan ahead and visit during higher tide hours otherwise its brown and not very pretty. There are some random homeless people sometimes, and often are mad and aggressive. Typical city park, but no dogs are allowed as its a preserve.
This is an amazing place and project. I grew up in Redwood City, and this place was completely different when I was a kid. In the early 2000s a restoration of Bair island was started, to restore the local ecology here. Allowing nature to reclaim and thrive in an area takes time. Lots of progress has been made over the last year and theres promise of a timelapse video to show it. There are signs from which visitors can take a picture and submit to the video project. Check out Instagram #restorebair1 and #restorebair2 to get a peak at the transformation. Other reviews are likely dated and not a reflection of the current state. It is not just for residents of the nearby housing developments and has access to the bay trail cycling road that goes parallel highway 101. The two main draws for me are the views of the bay, and the facinating local wildlife. Im partial to the birds.
Dont quit your daydream
Beautiful preserve with great birds, but there is no parking and we got locked in somewhere
Great place to get away from the rat race and recharge your nature batteries.
Nice walk. Beautiful place.
Quiet running trail though there isnt a loop, just two up and back paths. Good if youre running 3 or so miles unless you dont mind repeating the same path more than once. Use the gated path. The trail next to the freeway is loud and you have to cross a bridge where the marsh is really smelly.
A great short hike. Watching Rays swim by as I walked. Also nice listening to the birds.
Not a bad spot for a morning jog.
We couldnt go on the island as we had our dog. But enjoyed the walk around the boats. Very quiet considering its memorial weekend.
A little oasis in Redwood City. Kayak around the islands to fully explore. Thanks to POST and the USFWS for making this possible.
One of the greatest natural gems around the Bay Area! Go for a hike, jog, great bird watching, wildlife photography, quiet place to journal or sit & contemplate life! Volunteer there & help w/ restoration. Whatever you do, support this crucial national wildlife refuge! It belongs to all of us!
I saw some swarms of bird flying so fast, which is amazing.
There is a trail to ride bikes on, run or walk on. Tried with a scooter and it was difficult due to the crushed stone pavement. There are great raised platforms to stop and wildlife watch on, although I did not see very much. The Bay Trail runs through here, so hop on that to continue on an amazing adventure around the bay. Great place to come when your kids are just learning to ride bikes because it is not to crowded.
Not much to do expect for walking. Still beautiful though.
A really good habit for birds. However, a new road is under construction throughout the land.
Amazing place.What a treasure!!
Nice place on the water where efforts are being made to restore the natural habitat.
Very beautiful and clean in the Spring. Dont be fooled into believing the whole thing is a circle.
Its a cool place to walk around for a bit. Nice views.
Lovely place for a walk and to view the birds and wild life! Bring sunscreen on sunny days and be prepared for wind!
A lot of wild lives to see.
NO SHADE - but nice views of the bay and marsh.
Nice place for a stroll, walk, jog, run, etc. Parking is provided for free with a 4 hour limit.
Lovely, wide open, mostly level and compact dirt trail. Winds typically come up in the afternoon. Its a bird sanctuary, so no pets are allowed. Lupine in springtime is a beautiful sight.
Short, flat, in and out. Will be nicer once complete. Great place if you just want to watch the water.
Beautiful as always
This is a great place to walk through a Bay Area marshland. Plenty of birds and the beauty of the water
Not much to see and public parking is limited. There are many apartments all around the are the walkway around the bay is beautiful and paved with garden cared for by the apartment complex.
Would be nicer if they put a few benches and fixed the bike trail
Trail leads pretty far out into wetlands. Dense population of waterfowl was present.
Restoration project success.
Nice level walk with plenty of views.
This is the Bair Island unit of the Don Edwards National Wildlife Refuge. Wonderful place to explore the Bay shoreline. Beautiful example of habitat restoration on lands rescued from the jaws of development.
Very chill walk with lots of easy to see birds. Flat packed dirt walkways with a 1.7 mile trail from the parking lot to an observation deck. Clean bathrooms.
Is very peaceful.
A bit noisy due to 101 traffic. Did not see much of the wildlife
Tides up and down quickly
Very flat and windy 1.7 mile trail with two observation platforms. Saw some wild life here including egrets.
A little slice of green space, always nice...
Beautiful. Perfect for a walk in run.
For a city with little greenspace, this is a nice escape.
Its gorgeous at high tide in the spring and summer when all the flowers are in bloom
Nice trails. Good quite place.
Close to redwood city
Beautiful. Can still hear he highway though.
Beautiful
Nice restoration project under way.
A very short trail, but good for bird watching
Nice for walks, lots of birds, water is not the cleanest, has weird smell
Good trail
IT WAS GREAT!!
Great trail for bikes, running or walks.
Birding, running, easy access
Quiet and peaceful

Great place for a walk.
Dope spot to fly a kite and just chill.
