Just opened to the public last November 2017. Lower La Honda Creek is a historic working cattle grazing land. Picturesque and peaceful. Hardly anyone was around. Open rolling hills and grassland. We were lucky to be there on a cool, foggy morning, which made it easy for my husband and I to hike 8.8 miles of it. ENJOY.

Once more I was back to this beautiful place in La Honda , La Honda Creek. This time my hosts were one of the most peaceful animals on our Planet. I took a attached photo of great family and continued an enjoyable walk. The combination of the colors of the gray yellow hills, blue sky, green small islands of the wild trees gave incredible fillings and positive emotions. My visit last about one hour and it was time of happiness and joy. I Will be back soon...

Yesterday (11/30/17) I hiked the 8.8 miles of open trails at this preserve. There is a nice paved parking area with bathroom at the top of Sears Ranch Road. The first 3.1 miles of “trails” are good condition gravel and base rock roads - well compacted so easy to hike on. It’s basically a 3.2 mile (each way) out-and-back trail with a 2.4 mile loop at the far end of the trail. Total mileage then is 8.8 miles if you go all the way in, around the loop at the far end, and then all the way back. I hiked all of this and can say that this is essentially a 100% in-the-open hiking which would be bad for summertime. Very little shade at all, but nice views of the rolling coastal hills. About 3 miles in, you get to a ridge that has a nice view of the ocean. Lots of cows on and around the road, but they didn’t bother me and moved off the road as I approached. A fair amount of up-and-down hiking but mostly reasonable grades. There was one steep part on the Folger Ranch loop trail that was very steep.I would recommend this park on winter hikes, but not summer. They have spent a lot of time and money putting in new culverts and have graded the roads well with gravel and base rock so at least the first 3 miles in, this might be a good wet weather hike. I would not recommend the far loop in that the scenery is not as good and the roads are not graveled so would be muddy in wet weather. So this still leaves a nice 3.1 mile out-and-back (6.2 miles total) hike to a ridge with views to the ocean. Lots of good views over to the La Honda side of the mountain as well. That would be my recommendation for a hike. The open nature of the trail, and the road conditions would make this good for bikers, but bikers are not allowed, presumably because they would scare the cows.Overall, I think think is a good representation of a coastal cattle ranch. It is critical that they keep cattle grazing here because it would become a huge wildfire hazard if they didnt.Personally, I have been one of the big critics of POST and MROSD in buying up land and then keeping people out. Frankly, from what theyve opened here so far, they should have just kept their $21 million and spent that money on improvements to other parklands they already own. How about some full hookups and camp sites for baby boomers now retired and looking to do some camper travel around the country?

The dog on leash policy is misleading. You assume that you can just come and walk your dog. NOPE you have to have a permit and that is just not how most people hike. You want to go our and hike. Its not necessary if the dog is on a lease. My 2 cents

Gorgeous!! Very quiet and peaceful. Pleasant drive off Sand Hill Road exit on highway 280 with roads being manageably narrow (unlike roads to Big Basin state park). Lovely view greet you. Hike is not too treacherous. No crowds. Very quiet.

Mostly exposed, a few patches of oak trees, seasonal creek, all fire road. still a working ranch. good bird watching, saw several red tail hawks. wish they would connect the loop at the end back to the car park so you didnt have to go out and back.

I love this place, its part of the surrounding area where I live & I also love how I can walk out my door, anytime of day, and take a great picture, no matter where I point my camera. The sun light dappling the forest floor, sunrays filtering thru majestic Coastal Redwoods, Douglas Firs , Bay Trees( aka Bay Laurel ) & hardwood maples lends to the natural dramatic scenery. A busy, bouldered Creek, runs thru this open space site as well. Worth seeing more than once. Bring a photographic device as well.

The views are amazing. Would be nice to have some single track trails but an employee said there should be some coming soon so I look forward to exploring some more. Also there is an equestrian trail that would be nice to be opened to all hikers. Beautiful place. So glad its open!

Recently opened section in La Honda Open Space. Has a good size parking lot at the end of Sears Ranch road. Nice wide hiking trail with moderate elevation changes. Hike includes going through grazing areas occupied by cows but they were more interested in the grass than the hikers.

La Honda Creek lower is small enough to walk it in a day. The six-ish mile lollipop is around rolling hills and it affords views of some peaks. Lots of flowers and Creeks in the spring. Walking around cows is fun, kind of bucolic. Easy parking, and it has restrooms.

This open space has some signage but is not fully open or developed yet. Trails are needed as routes between certain areas. (Routes shown on old topo maps would help, but theyre seriously overgrown and nearly impassable in spots.) Ive found an old growth redwood, some nice views, and other points of interest. La Honda Creek along the north boundary is very nice, but its not clear how much of the gorge is within the park.

This place is all about the views. It is a LONG hike to get to the best views. Allow 4 hours for the ten miles with a lot of steep climbing. Sure you could hike it faster, but stop and enjoy the views.wont be so much fun if it is a foggy day.

New open space with hiking or walking trails of approximately 8+ miles through grazing land. Some wildlife sitings including deer, rabbits and red-tail hawks. Very little shade because the trails are mainly fire roads. There is parking and restrooms.

A beautiful new preserve opened to the public by MROSD. The main trail is perfect for beginners or a family and the chance to get up close to the cattle that graze there is an added bonus!

From the new parking lot at Sears Point Road off Highway 84 you can hike 8.8 miles around the Harrington Creek Trail and up over the ridgetop onto the Folger Loop Trail. You wont see many people, but lots of cows.
