This is a beautiful and short hike through Forest Park. Unfortunately, it has been tagged and painted again (visited October 13, 2020). It really ruins the vibe of the structure; I wish people would leave it alone. Still a nice little hike and great place to take photographs.

So many trails in this area but this specific one is my favorite. The hike isn’t too long but it’s a good weekly walk to do. The witches castle is the coolest part. It is more busy on this trails then the other ones but majority of the people are at the little castle taking photos.

The hike is very short but pretty. It’s just off the main road and an easy walk to the building. The history of the castle is very interesting and a fun read. The building is smaller than expected but a fun little expedition. Great chance for a photo shoot

Its absolutely beautiful. The trail is very nice and easy to access. It would be nice to have a plaque with information about the house there. And it would be awesome if there werent people who felt the need to deface it with spray paint. It is still an amazing structure in spite of the vandalism.

The hike was ok, but you can still hear the road pretty much the whole time. And the castle is just another graffiti covered wall in Portland. All in all, I wouldnt recommend going out of your way to see this...

It was relatively easy to get to the Witchs House (or the Stone House as all the signs call it.) We werent prepared for a hike so we were in jeans and flip flops and I had my toddler in a carrier. Just to the house and back was a little over a mile long. The trail was a downslope there, so going up on the way back which wouldnt have been so hard if we had been wearing the proper shoes haha! I was sad to see all the graffiti but that didnt really take away from the awesome structure. Were going to try coming back in the spring or the fall when the water in the creek might be higher.

I took the Lower Macleay Trail to the Witchs Castle and it was a really lovely little hike. Runs along a beautiful creek and isnt too challenging at all. We are very lucky to have such a beautiful area so close to the city!

Its cool probably more fun to Hike to it than actually seeing it. When you arrive its essentially an abandoned stone building in the middle of the woods which is what makes it so cool. But would definitely stop by again whenever in the area, those who live close enough to pass through on their lunch break are the truly the lucky ones.

Great hike! Its a pretty steep climb for a good .25 miles. Then even and a gradual downhill.I took my 4yr old and... its a steep drop off the side. I watched her VERY closely. Much better fit for kids who can understand the dangers of falling to your literal death, lol

This was such a cool experience! Take a beautiful hike down a steep winding path over the bridge and through the woods. The total hike to the Witchs Castle was about 0.6 of a mile I believe, but the terrain was steep, and a bit slippery. The building itself is really cool. Its full of graffiti, but still has a very creepy feel to it. I imagine that it will look different with each changing season. Parking is available at the entrance to the trail. *NOTE: This hike is not for everyone - I would not recommend this for most seniors.

The trail is nice and fun for kiddos but the witches house itself is all spray painted with curse words and has broken glass all over the place as well as abandoned clothing items and garbage which is not so kid friendly. It was also very crowded and hard to maintain social distancing from other groups.

Love doing photoshoots here but only problem is that there is quite a bit of graffiti that you either have to photoshop it out or keep it depending on the photos. It was extremely busy as well but that was my fault for doing this on a Saturday in April 2019. I am glad that we found this creek on our way back to the car. Forest Park is pretty and offers a nice little hike. Please visit stunningportraitphotography.com for more pictures.

Nice quiet 15-min hike one way in Forest Park just outside downtown Portland to reach the ruins. Its not a castle and most of it is covered in graffiti, but I like to snap photos and the area is gorgeous. Plenty of other hikers & joggers around so youre not alone. Would luv to know who transported large stones down near the creek just off the trail and what it was used for. It has a very odd layout. The trail is somewhat steep in some spots but otherwise an easy, level, well used dirt path.

We used Upper mcleay parking lot, off of Cornell road. Beware of you pull into the little parking area, there is a strip.of concrete missing, a big strip of a pothole of you will. Stiack to the sides, less chance of scraping bottom of car. If u go past this little parking lot, there are a few more slant parking spots right next to the road. There is a sign pointed toward witches castle. It was a steady, easy downhill trail. Took us about 20 minutes, it was muddy & quite a few joggers, so we stepped aside to let them pass. Dogs as well. A pretty little area, the sound of the stream & ferns are relaxing. We love to hike & explore, this was a great little stop.off for our kid to go see. It was cold & muddy, but this was our late snowday March

Local call it as a Stone House and believe me nobody knows what this structure is about. Some says it’s very ancient bathroom or toilet but let me tell those folks that in ancient times, hygiene was not the priority. And this house doesn’t look like a bathroom or toilet. Also, there is no history board installed over here which is embarrassing. But, the forest trail is good for hiking and jogging. It’s 5.7 miles of forest trail and you will like this forest.

Cool landmark on a short trail just outside of downtown Portland. The Witchs castle is filled with history from murders, to bathrooms, to local keg parties in the 70s. This spot makes for some great landscape photography. The forest greenery has grown over the building and blends it nicely. Definitely worth checking out. Its a small .5 mile trail.

Nice hike but it’s not a castle. Basically all of you are taking pictures of an old bathroom from the 60’s. Weather you believe it or not. It was part ranger station part bathroom. And no from another reviewer, it not from ancient time.

It’s fairly easy to get to if you have no mobility issues. The grade and terrain on the way down and up from the access near the audobon parking can be navigated with strollers. I don’t think I would attempt this with a wheelchair. It gets one star down for mobility and one star docked for the company. it’s so popular you have people with very poor trail etiquette walking around - dogs off leash, loud music, littering (and for COVID era restrictions, not wearing masks). That’s what made it really unpleasant. The house is interesting and we did walk upstairs. I was disappointed to see a significant amount of bad graffiti on what should be a monument of some sort.

Not crazy amazing, and there are definitely a lot of lies and rumors about its origins. That being said, it does look pretty cool and makes for some good photos of you have a camera and some creativity. Youre free to climb up and around it, but its honestly not that big.Theres some people getting snooty about the thing, but Im not sure why they hate it so much. Its a ruined building. It is what you make of it. No need to get mad that people made up stories. The stories are way more interesting than its un-noteworthy origins. Let them have their fun. I know I did.

Its hype, I dont get it. I thought they closed Hot Topic? The walk is nice but the hipsters thick. I saw a person? With a cat on a leash looking for ghosts. I love Portland! And the thing they call Witches Castle used to be a bathroom for the park I believe. It can be very muddy and slick when raining.

This is such a nice little jaunt into a magical forest! Its not in any way, something that you need to prepare heavily for if plan it right. The McCleary entrance to Forest Park, is about 1/2 a mile from the Witches Castle and its a steady, sloping, switchback down to a creekside trail. There are more than a few cross country runners on the trail, so its somewhat busy, but the trail is wide. I took two small children, down the trail by myself very easily. Go, have fun, let the kids imaginations run wild.
