So powerful. Both the story and the sculpture really hit hard on why we can never allow such a thing to happen again.

The memorial is a testament to the families of the survivors who, along with community champions, worked tirelessly for many years to make the memorial a reality. Of course it is also a testament to those who perished at the hands of the Nazis during World War II. If visiting do not miss the burial of ashes from the death camps under the large stone on the right side. Also make sure to walk around back to take in the names of relatives lost in the Holocaust by members of the Portland community.

What a moving monument. Ubered up to the Pittock Mansion from downtown then ran down the trails and up to Washington Park. Knew I wanted to visit the Sacajawea monument and the Lewis and Clark Monument. Was quite touched and taken aback with the Holocaust Monument. Loved reading about many of the facts then the entire backside were folks from the Pacific Northwest. What a touching monument.

Very solemn area, a memorial when Hitler killed the relatives of people in Portland in Germany or elsewhere during World war 2. Interesting fixed metal objects around the area like a kids sized shoe, notebook, briefcase, teddy bear, etc. Not a must visit for tourists.

I love this place. Nestled in forest park, very close to the rose gardens and Japanese gardens. This spot is worth a visit. But bring tissues because if you have one compassionate or empathetic bone in your body you will leave weeping. Outs a nice quiet place to get away from the crowds as well and very shaded. Very clean. Its basically a wall with a lot of stories quotes and names on it. All those people that we should take care to remember.

Ive visited quite a few memorials of the Shoah, but this outstanding monument in the lush and serene Washington Park in Portland especially struck me. The historical concise description of the Holocaust, etched on the left hand side of the main slab, conveys the incomprehensible dimensions of the worst European tragedy in history in a poignant, effective, heart-wrenching way. An attentive visit to this place should be a mandatory activity for anyone, in particular for young students. The educational value is immense. I could not help recoiling in deep tears, as once again I was overwhelmed with sorrow and shame for what was perpetuated to those minorities just barely eighty years ago. If you are planning a visit to Portland, OR,ake sure you set aside a few minutes to dedicate to this place.

Moving, heart wrenching, thought provoking. One of the best, if not the best, Holocaust memorials I have seen. Lost and damaged belongings in bronze strewn around the ground elicited quite an emotional reaction from the start. The writings on the walls were powerful and the history told was very well explained. It was succinct and powerful. It highlighted the importance of seeing the commonalities in all of us as human beings and the need to be there for one another. I left in tears. Definitely worth visiting this memorial site.

A small but excellent memorial for the victims of Nazi Holocaust. As an Indian who have faced countless holocausts at the hands of invading Islamic armies for more than 800 years beginning the eighth century, and again during partition in 1947 and in 1971 in East Pakistan, I felt this place is a memorial for the millions of Indians, too, who were similarly and repeatedly massacred.

The Oregon Holocaust Memorial is a dignified reminder of the horrors Jewish people endured at the hands of the Nazis. The littered detritus of a forcibly displaced people line the walkway to the main memorial which tells the story of the Holocaust. Underneath are buried the ashes of victims giving a direct connection to the event. I encourage anyone to visit to remember nearly 75 years ago.

I stumbled upon this while wandering around Washington Park, and the area brought a gush of feelings . . . the darkness of the subject matter juxtaposed against the beauty of the day made the stories Ive read seem so real. I loved the recognition of the families in Oregon. Its hard to enjoy something so dark; but, the artist does such a good job making the viewer feel the raw emotion. Id suggest all visit this beautiful tribute to the tragedy we strive to never repeat.

On April 28th, 2014 I was walking around downtown Portland. When I came to Pioneer Square the names of all the children killed in the concentration camps were being read out loud over speakers in the Square. I sat and listened for quite a while. I felt very sad and moved by this so I walked to the Holocaust Memorial. I really felt connected to the people the memorial was honoring. It was heartbreaking and emotional to say the least. It was very poignant. Reading the quotes from the wall. The sculptors on the ground, especially the Teddy Bear, so moving. The artistry is amazing and profound.

We stumbled upon this memorial while perusing the park. It is touching and relevant. I appreciate this being here and that the memories for those who died so tragically are preserved here. The perspective from the art symbolizes what was left behind by the people forced out of their homes. The bear was exceedingly sad but for me represented the children of the Holocaust.
