This device lets cars, trucks, light rail trains, bikes, and pedestrians travel over the river without anyone getting wet! Unless it is raining. While all this magic is happening, small boats can travel the river unimpeded. But wait, theres more! If a really tall boat comes along, the Broadway Bridge can dodge the boat (like Neo dodging bullets in the Matrix) by OPENING UP! I just dont know WHAT they will think of next!

I got stuck on it for like 10 minutes the bridge went up for what normally is boats to go through. The bridge is already very high up and most boats can fit under without messing with traffic. I got out of my car and didnt see any boats btw. So idk why it went up exactly. I was running late to work today and it made me even more late.

The architecture of this bridge is pretty outstanding and beautiful. I dont know what it is about bridges but this is probably one of the prettier ones in Portland. It is short enough that sometimes you get caught up with a boat having to pass through, so sometimes you might get stuck, but oh well, its a bridge, it happens! Take a drive over next time you are in town!

Weird that a bridge can be reviewed and rated. Its an attractive piece of infrastructure. And Broadway bridge is particularly attractive offering one of the best vistas of the Portland riverside

Im not sure how to rate a bridge. Its beautiful. The views are beautiful. Ive never fallen off of it. Sometimes cyclists ride right up behind me when Im walking and they dont say a word thats uncomfortable. And finding it in your car can be hard if youre not on Broadway.

I LOVE our bridges~ however this one COULD have SOOOO much more going for it. The AMAZING architecture of the bridge is lost with its DRAB, BORING, UGLY same ol color painted over and over. COME ON PEOPLE!!! Wouldnt it be FABULOUS to see & feel some Nostalgic colors and pictures, something that ACTUALLY represents PORTLAND!? Something that makes visitors go home & talk about how BEAUTIFUL even our bridges are?!!? Something fun~ even Roses would be better than what we have to be bored to death by!!

Beautiful view of the bridges, water, buildings, trains, traffic and people. Take a date, kids, moms, dads, grandpas, grandmas, nieces, nephews, freinds or go solo. During the night there will be less interuption but during the day you can see more of the city life. A peaceful place to gather ones thoughts while to appreciating nature and industry. Another cool thing is that it is one of Portlands draw bridges so if youre lucky enough to get stuck while a large ship is coming you will be lifted into the sky. Just dont jump. Thats a bad time for everyone. Mkay.

How do you rate a bridge. I love the Broadway when Im driving over it, looking at the art inspired by it or viewing it from a distance. From below it is such a different experience. The first surprise is how high above the ground it is. The wind can be a second surprise. I expected to feel sheltered. It is a bit of a shame more has not been done with the ground below. Seems to me another park could be had with a little effort.

Complete with streetcar, vehicles, bikes, and pedestrians, this is another Portland bridge that has evolved to handle a variety of uses. Set higher then many of the other bridges (see Hawthorne, Steel, Morrison, Burnside) the views from it can do a vista viewer good. The red frame of the bridge also sets it apart, making it look more cheerful to me (obviously a matter of perception). If you research quickly one will also find it now dates to over a 100 years of use, so give the bridge some props for looking so nice after all these years of hard work.

One of the top three bridges in Portland. This bridge is beautiful, and very useful for cars, streetcars and bikes. A wide sidewalk on each side gives a nice place to watch the rive or ride over it. Walking under it is just as studding as being on top of it.

Good architecture and a spacious affibility for traveling. It opens into the city giving a beautiful bike for from downtown SE to the Pearl District; connecting easily with the Steel Bridge as an alternative route. The mechanics of the bridge are well thought and extraordinary, if you are lucky enough to see them! The fast moving crowd could use a more elaborate marking system, especially being so close to the Rose Quarter. I think it may be another nod to the heart of the city.

Ever since I moved to N/NE Portland 5 years ago, Ive been a pretty big fan of Broadway bridge. I like its red color scheme in contrast to all the other bridges. Its pretty nice to walk/ride a bike across, although if youre a cyclist, be wary at the bike light when you get to Lovejoy. Ive seen too many people run the No Right Turn on Red sign & too many close calls to cruise through without looking just because the bike light is green. As a car driver, its nice to cross the river and be able to choose from Lovejoy going to NW & Broadway to go downtown. One warning: recent streetcar construction & traffic issues leave Broadway a bit of a mess. Hopefully it will all be over soon!
