A bit of a walk up the hill to the old parking area. There are no facilities at this park. Great for a quick walk in the woods. We have even got to encounter coyotes some mornings.

A very woodsy feel for inside the city a great place to just go and kick it and relax maybe a little walk

Lots of trash and people camping. No shade, its a nice place to post up but it doesnt make me feel safe. Glad for the wildlife refuge it provides. My dog and I ended up turning around right at the beginning of the trail because we saw a coyote

Decent woodsy park , the climb up to the top will leave your calves screaming .

Coyotes sunbathe in the upper pasture, but if you dont leash your dog, coyotes got skill. On a lower, eastier level, please carry your spray cans out.

Its quiet, which is nice, but it turns out its quiet for a reason. Trails are not maintained. Theres evidence of a lot of illegal camping and nighttime activities.

I didnt see any actual trails, Im kind of confused because of all the beautiful photos on here. I entered through 103rd and also on 101 coming from the north both times. Despite this, there was no obvious direction to walk in, and the narrow trails through the woods that I followed turned out to be made by people living in the park. I ended up in an area with tents and needles. If anyone can give me tips on where to see these pretty areas shown on google, I would appreciate it. I want to figure out how to enjoy this park

Review №9

I like that the park is in the middle of town, but that was about it. We found needles, garbage, and dog poop on the trails, which are not marked or maintained. The forest is nice, shady & cool, but mosquitoes swarmed you if you stopped for too long. You couldnt see any views of the city. Despite these complaints, we ran into several people on the trail. The graffiti on the guard rail going up gives it an interesting contrast of urban-meets-nature. I still might go back since I didnt find the old bunker or reservoir other people post about.

What I liked was how peaceful and quiet it was. There are Trillium flowers here today on the 4-1-2020. Unfortunately if you hike far enough you will see that homeless people are living here in tents. The trails are not marked and a little hard to find. They are also wet and muddy in this spring weather. There is garbage laying about in various places. I saw a Robin, Oregon Junco, and Stellar Jay.

The history of this mountain is astonishing. Deserves more respect and honoring announcements. Its like a secondary Vanport in a way. Much much history and Im positive theres so many more stories here.

Ki
Review №16

Super great easy hike if you wanted to go somewhere solo. Not very busy and it’s dog friendly too. Lots of trees so lots of shade. Or maybe it was just an overcast day. But it was pretty much empty here when I went and it was beautiful and tranquil. So much green everywhere!

Ti
Review №17

The railroad tie stairs on the side of the mountain are too far apart/big. Coyotes run free every night here and in the neighborhoods around this area. There are way too many earwigs, spiders and other bugs in these woods that I ended up taking some home which was a disaster.

Hidden trails, majestic views over the city of the skies. Theres one spot Id recommend: if you drive down Division to 101st St, take it to the end. Youll see a trail to your right, walk it, climb the stairs (easy climb) and keep walking. Youll see an open panoramic view of SE and SW skies, prefect place to watch the sun set, meditate and bask in the Glory of Nature!️

I like this place a lot, but Im not sure many other people will. If you take 103rd into the area, and walk to the top, you can find a retired cold war military bunker. There also is a trail that you can take. Not much of a view, but cool forest.

Pretty neglected. At least 2 small homeless camps up there. Tons of garbage on SW slope not far from reservoir. Had to look up that it was made into a reservoir to replace the now inoperational reservoirs at Mt Tabor. Was once home to a prison and rock quarry where prisoners did hard labor (early 1900s), then a civil defense bunker (1950s) that was sealed off in 2006. Has potential, if the city cared to invest in it. Some nice old Dougies up top.

I believe the other commenters are confusing this with Kelley Point Park - they are VERY different. This is a forest with trails through it, nothing more. If you want to get lost in a forest, this is your place! If you want to have a picnic or toss a ball around, you’ll need to find somewhere else.

Nice undeveloped park, never crowded. Great for an urban hiker or walking an active dog. Paved walk up from the small parking lot is mild to moderate. Lots of woods to explore up top, and you can poke around the exterior ruins of an old Civil Defense bunker. Views of Mt Hood and Mt St Helens on clear days. Neat hideout for urban wildlife - Ive seen hawks and coyotes. No facilties - a regularly serviced bathroom & trash cans at the parking lot would be a great addition.

The nuclear bomb shelter is pretty cool. Still looking for a way in.

Mi
Review №88

Horrible. Saw a bunch of reviews saying it was a good hiking place. The place just looks condemned and cannot even bring kids to comfortably hike. We couldnt even make into the first trail entrance. A condemned parking lot area is filed with huge piles of wood chips right before the first trail begins.

pa
Review №93

If you ever need to dump a body, Kelly Buttes the spot. It just had that feeling about it...like walking down a dark street at night, not knowing who might leap out at you. What could be a gem like Mt. Tabor is a neglected island of beauty with a little graffiti and the remnants of a couple of homeless camps that could be cleaned up in one day if only the city would do it. Perhaps the city doesnt think anyone cares since even the lovely houses at the base of the mountain have enough derelict cars to open a parts yard. Thinning out just a few trees would provide magnificent views that would bring enough people to clear the overgrown trails and maybe create new ones that didnt go straight up the mountain. Overall, I enjoyed my hike and am glad I went, and I recommend it to everyone. The untouched, natural feel is wonderful. I was the only person up there. The entire mountain was mine.

28 acers of fun. Look out for poison oak on the small trails. Update: Plenty of camps have been astablish all around the butte. There is garbage and bad food your dog might get into. Some of the campers act like the place. Good News: All the trails with the yellow no trespassing signs are open to all. You can walk all around the 50 million gallon resivor, up, and around the butte.
