This is a really good intimate venue. If you come here to see a band you love, youll be close no matter what. My pictures are from the balcony because Im taller and my girlfriend was front row, so I didnt want to block everyone behind me. But I still felt really close to the stage and could hear everything perfectly!I was worried parking would be a pain, but theres a covered parking garage about half a mile away. General admission has plenty of space to pick from, while there are some reserved seats in the balcony. Honestly I feel like you can still get the best view GA! Start time was punctual, staff was pleasant, and show was great. Will definitely go back if theres a band I like!

It was my first time there. As small as it is when you walk in, the space is nice for a show!! I love smaller venues. It makes the show more intimate. The sound was phenomenal! My friends and I truly enjoyed our night! I am looking forward to going to many more shows here in the future!

It was awesome to see the Dead kennedys on Friday the 13th. It appears that was the last show for the venue until the apocalypse is over. We just need to wait 3 - 14 days to see if we will survive from the great event that was not canceled.

Forever memories happen here! The best acts always play this stage when they come through town. The Theatre of Living Arts (or the TLA) is a concert venue located on South Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The venue, which opened in 1988, dates back to the early 1900s as a nickelodeon. Over the years, the venue has seen many incarnations ranging from concert hall to movie theatre to theatre.

We visit this facility to see a concert. Its was jammed pack. I didnt get an opportunity to okay pictures of the inside of the facility due to how dark the theatre was. But from what my naked eye could see, I believe the owners may want to start renovating the ceiling, and upgrade the bathrooms to be a little more presentable and clean. Other than that, this place was a cool hangout.

A small, relatively intimate venue that still has primo seating options for those willing to spend double. Multiple bars to keep your whistle wet. Security was ever-present and generally friendly and professional. And theres a $4 coat check, vital in the winter months. Lighting and sound were fantastic and even from the GA floor I had a good view (helps to be tall!). I like the TLA!

The acoustics arent knock-your-socks off, but the venue is intimate and the staff is super nice!Im not a fan of the fact that the bar area can turn into a private party (behind the center deck seating), because it can be distracting for those of us who want to immerse ourselves in the music, but being as Ive only attended one event here, that may have been an anomaly.

Been to this venue for 3 concerts now... Definitely not a favorite venue, its dirty and cramped, and the last time we went there, the AC was broken (it had to be 90° or more). The only redeeming quality is the acoustics, which are better than similarly priced venues.

I used to love this venue, and they still have amazing acts that come through. However every single time I come here now, it gets more and more expensive. The drinks are just about outrageous but that can be expected. Now literally every section with a view is VIP. Not only were they trying to get $75 extra on a $25 ticket, but they were haggling on price. This is getting ridiculous and takes away from the experience. There are other venues in Philly that arent as money hungry.

One of the worst venues Ive attended in over 40 years. Unless you pay for premium seating The closest theyll let you get to the stage is the lobby. I can see why the venue will soon be closing, as no major acts will book with them given their terrible reputation. Lets not get into the overpriced bar. Cant wait for them to all die in a fire.

The establishment had an appropriate amount of space, and the amount of time it took to exit was rather quick. Lighting was decent however could be updated to newer tech. The TLA is a cool venue to go to. It has two sides of a balcony as well as GA standing room when you first walk in. It fits about 1000 people and our team has seen a number of shows here. Its right on South Street so theres great places to eat within walking distance and if you search for parking on side streets you can even park for free.Their security is pretty standard but most of the door guys are nice and their bar tenders are fast and make good drinks. In terms of venues in Philly this is a solid one.

Great venue to take in a live performance from one of your favorite artist. You can take your drink upstairs to the balcony complete with theatre style seats. Or if you prefer you can take in the show on the floor level right in front of the stage. A friend and I saw Dave East twice now. First time here at TLA, and this was the much better venue. The sound quality is better on the floor rather than the balcony, however.

Ja
Review №99

Located on part of the liveliest strip of Philadelphia, the vibe of the TLA can change depending on the headliner and set list but that’s part of the fluidity and magic. Every show I’ve been to there has been week organized, the drinks are a tad overpriced, bu the location is clean, spacious and well ventilated (which is important when in cozy quarters with strangers). After a great show there are also plenty of options to pick from on South Street if you haven’t yet had your fill. On the other hand the service from the staff is inconsistent. One woman security guard in particular, I’ve noticed on more than one occasion, has a propensity to escalate situations and respond rudely to questions when it’s completely unnecessary. She’s generally outside corralling. Better treatment from other staff members in other ways has made up for this but instead, I think consistent training and deescalation tactics are needed.

Mi

The TLA is one of the best venues in Philly. They recently expanded the upstairs VIP which costs a lot of money just to have a seat. Otherwise this has been one of my favorite venues.
