Beautiful flood plain park. A great place for ATVs and fusing. While there we saw many fall flowing plants, local wildlife and even some carnivorous pitcher plants which made my whole day. As this is a flood plain forest you should keep in mind that the trail will require some waterproof boots and agile footwork if you go after it rains.

Went camping here beginning of February. It is first come first serve for the primitive sites. There are two. The camping sites are good and are between 2 and 2.5 miles from the trail head. The closer site has a well, it was pretty cool. Both sites have a picnic table and fire pit. In total there were 8 of us. 4 adults and 4 kids ranging from 5-7. The walk in wasn’t bad but also there isn’t much to see or explore. It’s a good beginner camping experience.

Great place with some open trails for biking or hiking. Please be note that theres not a huge amount of shade so come prepared for that. There are about 3 different trails you can travel and none are extremely difficult. This location also allows camping but Id check their website for more information.

Entered the trails from South Avalon park. Yes there is a bridge that says no trespassing, thats just in relation to the bridge only, from what I was told, as once you are past it you can find clear trail markers with mileage. The terrain was very smooth but took a lot of muscle as it was grassy, which is more difficult to ride over than packed earth. My daughter and I took the red trail. I will look at the satellite before I go again so I can plan a new route.

Its a wonder preserve that has many natural paths. By natural paths, I mean that the ground on the paths is sometimes rock, mud, grass, e.t.c., it is not paved. Its fun going for hikes and seeing the animals in their natural habitat.

One of my favorite hikes in the central Florida area. Lots of well kept trail and campsites. Bring LOTS of water in the warmer months. There isnt a lot of shade out there.

Ja
Review №12

All trails are double track rutted roads that the ranger/maintenance uses. Some roads are not marked as trails but should be. The 2 campsites which are in sight distance of one another are in nice oak hammocks. There were a lot of discarded water bottles metal cans and trash at the southern most campsite. Hopefully the pile I picked up will be removed by a paid employee. Adequate parking. On my 2 night backpacking trip I saw wild hog, armadillos, deer, otter, numerous birds. Heard coyotes and owls at night as well as the traffic from State Road 528. I would definitely go back and experience this natural area again. There should be trails that give access to see the Little Econlockhatchee River.

Cool place. There are three loops, roughly 6 miles each. You will not get lost if you go off the beaten path as the park is overall small by my standards. The forest is regenerating after a prescribed fire. Take plenty of water and a hat. Wear all-covering clothes. Better have an insect repellant.

Really enjoyed this trail with my BF and black lab. Nice open space leading to a camp site. We followed the stream for awhile much to the delight of our dog who loves water. She enjoyed dashing in and out of the running water. We will check out the other loops next time. Best thing was barely any traffic! We passed one person and it was a Saturday morning. We will definitely return.

We were on vacation in Providence Canyon State Park in GA and decided to hop back down home in the Keys. After a noisy night at a campground in Ocala, we found this park with a quick google maps search for tent camping. Its everything we wanted. Pack in, pack out. Secluded and no kids screaming at 7am. The site we went to is first come, first serve so its kind of a gamble to make the hike with all of your gear. Its about 2.5 miles from the parking lot and mostly in the sun. Youre immediately rewarded with the shade and breeze at the campsite. Its clean and simple with a picnic table, wooden bench, wooden standing table and a fire ring. Theres a pump for well water, but it isnt working. Its fairly large for a primitive site so we would have welcomed any other campers that may have hiked in. If youre looking to get away from people and life in general, this is the place.

This is a very... interesting park. A friend and I came here to camp this past Friday. The map at the entrance to the park is very vague, and the “campsites” are nothing more than cleared out areas of rough grass and bumpy ground. We ended up hiking around here until sunrise, at which point we decided to just head home.If you love Florida’s familiar foliage, you’ll be at heaven here. However, if you desire more or at least an outhouse, I’d recommend looking elsewhere.

Completed a 20 mile hike with my son and his Boy Scout Troop. Plenty of trail for the hike with a little duplication. The trail was made up of multiple different materials in different parts - grass, rocks, sea dredge, dirt, etc. Looked like an awesome place for mountain biking, but mostly flat, as usual for Florida. Not a lot of diversity of plants and animals that was readily visible on the hike. Had a few spots where you will likely get wet trying to cross due to water pooling in low areas.

Not much shade, the hiking paths are really more like service vehicle utility routes. The one nice area for hiking is very short, goes though a cypress forest, along a stream, but the path in that area is made of a very course gravel, pretty much stone chips, made it a though hike even in good hiking boots. I did get to see two gopher tortoises, and supposedly there is some rare woodpecker in this area, but in didnt see it. Im not a mountain biker, but maybe this would have been a better path if I was biking it.

Nice trail, we came in late June. The trail is very wet this time of year, and some parts of it are inaccessible without water boots, or maybe horseback. Trails are nice and well maintained. There is no t much out there though. Lots of pine trees and small palms that stay low to the ground. Open 24 hours and has a nice group camp site. No running or drinking water available and we only saw one portapotty for restrooms available at the group site. Only thing that makes this place a little less beautiful is the power plant in Avalon is highly visible from the start of the white trail.

This is an absolutely beautiful park. Its filled with lovely pine flatwoods, and its a wonderful place to look for birds and wildlife. Nice park with good bike trails, but the scenery is not as good as other local trails. This is a good beginner trail if you are not used to hiking as its completely flat and level ground. Or, take a bike and cruise around for some decent views of palm fields and a few patches of trees. If you want to get deeper into nature, I would recommend the Little Big Econ Trail.

This park offers plenty of hiking options, however all trails are gravel roads. Also note that the distance on the yellow and red trails does not include the walk to the trails themselves. Camping is allowed here without reservation but it is primitive and you must hike your gear in. Most of the trails run through open terrain so sun protection is recommended. Dogs and horses are allowed on the trails.

The trails span a very nice area of preserved land, however the half-way point of the white trail--where beutiful trees and airplants loom up above--is submerged and has no point of accesibility from around. (A small, foot-wide bridge would be nice but there are some fallen trees one could attempt to walk across) the other orange/non-well-marked trail was also flooded. Most of the trails are in direct sunlight while the parts of the trail which are shaded by beautiful trees are flooded, so visiting during a cloudy day (with not rainfall the previous couple of days) is preferable (the park opens at 8am--when the sun is already heating up the flatlands--and closes before the sunset can cool off the air by much)Water is a must, and NO RESTROOMS or outhouses are available. (But youll be sweating while looking around the funky landscape, peeing will be the last thing on your mind)Not always perfectly maintained (many areas were overgrown with half-to-the-knee grasses) and there are SNAKES though non aggressive, the standard move-out-of-your-way sun bathers (but be on guard to assure dog safety). And [August 4th] there are ticks.
