Last year I took a tour of City Hall.I presume its still closed because of the pandemic. Hopefully it will reopen soon. For people who are interested in local politics and in history, the tour is great. The people giving the tour are volunteers , often retirees who have tremendous knowledge about City Hall and local governence.

Never a dull moment here: musicians and dancers would do open air performance here. Artists would put up their artwork here. Theres also food for sale. And across the street, by the Bridge, you can get souvenirs. So get ready for a good time because not too far from here is the World trade center and Wall Street.

You have to book online for this free tour beforehand, but it is so worth it.Learnt so much about the history of the area and City Hall.Had access to City Hall Chambers, plus function room with amazing artwork and historical pieces including Washingtons desk. The guide was brilliant pointing out all the hidden details on the paintings and sculptures, that I would of missed on my own.Highly recommended!!!

Great place to visit. Theres performance artists who do their thing and you dont know what they will be doing. Local artists will also display their artwork for you to see. The food wagon will also be there so if you get the munchies, you can satisfy your needs. It is also close to the trade center and the churches so you can visit them too. The only thing is that they dont have a public restroom so pee first.

Old French Renaissance architectural style of City Hall send us back into 18th century though surrounding skyscrapers remind us of our time. The combination of these buildings from various periods makes this place more attractive. Beautiful old park with contemporary visual art monuments is very pleasant place for everybody.

New York City Hall, the seat of New York City government, is located at the center of City Hall Parkin the Civic Center area of Lower Manhattan, between Broadway, Park Row, and Chambers Street. The building is the oldest city hall in the United States that still houses its original governmental functions,[5]such as the office of the Mayor of New York City and the chambers of the New York City Council. While the Mayors Office is in the building, the staff of thirteen municipal agencies under mayoral control are located in the nearby Manhattan Municipal Building, one of the largest government buildings in the world.City HallU.S. National Register of Historic PlacesU.S. National Historic LandmarkNYC LandmarkShow map of ManhattanShow map of New York CityShow map of New YorkShow map of the USShow allLocationCity Hall Parkbetween Broadway and Park Row[1][2]Manhattan, New York CityCoordinates40.7127°N 74.0059°WBuilt1811ArchitectJoseph-François Manginand John McComb, Jr.Architectural styleexterior:French Renaissance Revivalinterior:Georgian RevivalNRHP reference #66000539Significant datesAdded to NRHPOctober 15, 1966[3]Designated NHLDecember 19, 1960[4]Designated NYCLexterior: February 1, 1966interior: January 17, 1976Constructed from 1803 to 1812,[1] New York City Hall is a National Historic Landmark and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[4][6][7] Both its exterior (1966) and interior (1976) are designated New York City landmarks.[2]

If you are visting New York, then it is worth having a look around New York City Hall. There is a nice small park where you can hop around and rest on your way to the many destinations you get from there, as this is quite central in Downtown Manhattan. Then you can also have a look around City Hall, and do some people watching. I got married there, so of course this is a memorable place for me, feels like yesterday (but is it not, far from it!)

Gorgeous French style building in the civic center. Built in the early 1800s, it’s a good time capsule of what New York looked like a couple hundred years ago. If you visit the website, you can sign up for a free tour in which they teach you the history and show you city council chambers and the welcoming rooms. I especially love the gorgeous central rotunda, whole building feels very European.

I recently joined a free tour, which I had to reserve in advance via the City Hall website. There is a security check before anyone is allowed on-premises. Once in, visitors are asked to wait for the docent by the Nathan Hale Statue. Photography is allowed during the tour and there are public restrooms inside the building. The tour started a few minutes behind schedule and lasted 90 minutes. The docent was knowledgeable, pleasant, and patient with questions. She described what the place was like more than 200 years ago, explained the purpose, architecture, and design of the building, and shared significant historical events that the place bore witness to. The tour overall was informative without being too overwhelming. Highly recommended!

When I started exploring New York decades ago, finding the way through skyscrapers so high started to think what would City Hall in city like this, so unique would look like. Would that be the highest skyscraper in the world. No :-). It would be the old building of importance. Exactly like New York City Hall.

Been here three times all three on the first floor and whether I was way on the side or center it was always a good seat no matter how far back or to the side I was ... negative, a VERY small bathroom for the theater size and only one. One of the biggest knocks against the New York City Government is that they often get nothing done while in session. After seeing the beauty of a building, I can begin to understand why the wheels of municipal government grind so slowly. An absolutely stunning architectural work, the most spectacular component of which is the floating staircase, two twin spiral stairwells converging in the middle of the building without any supporting columns, giving the effect that the stairs are floating right off the ground up to the second floor. Once you get up to the second floor, head to the city council chambers, which boasts a beautiful mural on the ceiling and provides an view of government in action (or government inaction). After walking through the building, be sure to stop at City Hall Park right next door, a wonderful respite from the chaos and hustle and bustle of the busy city!

The security chief I assume is his title is very rude and wouldn’t let me pull over my vehicle to switch places with my husband .... I am 8 months pregnant with a toddler .... he comes out and says you know this is a cross walk even though it clearly has 3 trash cans blocking the sidewalk which is where I was. My husband informed him we are not staying. The man then flashes this mini badge and demands we move. I’m very tired of the lack of sensitivity. If I was this mans pregnant wife I’m sure he wouldn’t want someone to treat or talk to her like that. After the exchange of words he kept walking out of the both toward my car I assume to take down the license plate. I stop on this corner every single morning since March 2018 and no one has ever bothered / harassed me to move. I am not in anyone’s way nor was I blocking the entrance to City Hall. Shame on YOU!

City Hall has operated since 1812, it houses the mayor’s office, the City Council Chamber, a number of museum-quality public spaces and steps that are a standard spot for politicians’ press conferences; though closed to the public, it’s the site for government ceremonies and has hosted celebrations for everything from Charles Lindbergh’s transatlantic flight to Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon; there’s also a pleasant park nearby.
