GREAT PLACE FOR FAMILIES ACTIVITIES... WE WENT TO A MOTHERS DAY PAINTING SESSION... IT WAS FANTASTIC...

This place is a good spot to get a nice quick workout before work, pickup game after work or a long run while watching others play basketball, even swim a few rounds if you’d like! The cleanliness is something that needs to improve upon as well as the schedule constantly changing, but this gym even offers classes and courses to help you achieve quite a lot. Overall this gym for the price is perfect

Great amenities, staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Its very close to my job so it is a great location to work out in without breaking the bank. Only complaint would be the overall condition of the building is dire. Needs an upgrade.

Lady in the front desk made fun of me and my friends because we had heavy African accents. My friend had no clothes that he needed changed and she wanted him to show a lock when it was not needed. Overall poor service.

When me and 2 pals of mine walked into the facility, my friend (who has random twitches in his left eye) was mocked and gawked at by the people in the front desk. Incredibly unprofessional staff.

Ive been swimming at this place for years. It is not fancy. It is not pretty. Theres no scene. But it is the cheapest pool in the city and always clean and friendly.

Its nice, spacious. A pool, a running track. Check orbit for yourself. U may just enjoy yourself. I know I did.... Chow... For now, until next time.

The staff was kinder and more patient than staff Ive encountered at other NYC Parks centers. Ive been to quite a few (4 or 5 centers) and the staff here were the nicest without a doubt. I have yet to see the swimming pool but the fitness center was great. All machines were functional. The courts and track looked well kept. Have yet to find a reason to deduct a star throughout my few visits there.

I didnt see much. Staff was friendly. Facility looked neat at least in the lobby/reception area.

Rec Center 54 is pretty much exactly what a public gym should be: cheap, clean and open to everyone. Ive been coming for years and enjoyed the pool, the gym and the running track. I hear the youth programs and classes are good too. The homeless need somewhere to go too to get cleaned up. Deal with it. If you want Equinox, go pay for it. This is something different, and frankly better. One cheap membership get you access to gyms and pools citywide.

It is a nice recreation center they got there. The pool is big and clean. Nice working out environment. In a great location and friendly neighborhood (thought there wont be any my friendly neighborhood spiderman found there). Stuffs are pretty friendly and helpful.They have Karate lesson sessions over there for free and also, they have basketball for indoor lovers. Especially during snowy weeks, it is a good place to stop by for an hour with friends for a game.

The best part is that the membership is cheap - just 67.50 for 6 months if you have NYC id. Nothing fancy - 16 yards pool, simple showers, no towel service. But if you just want a pool and some gym machines, this is a great place to have a membership to.

This place has an indoor pool, weight room, and basketball court. Also have computers. I feel like its an unknown hidden gem!

The Summer Camp programThis is my daughters second summer at this camp. Hands down is it a great and affordable camp, she loves it!!The summer program is lead by Ed Aguste who is incredibly professional polite and caring. The rest of the staff is exactly the same. They are all very courteous and super patient with all the kids. They keep the parents informed and the kid busy.The camp has regular hours and extended hours and a huge nice clean indoor pool.When I pick my daughter up she is exhausted from all the fun indoor and outdoor activities.The facility itself is has security and it super clean and cool, perfect for the summer.All in all I am very happy with this camp, staff and facility. I highly recommend the camp staff and facility at 348 East 54street

Recreation Center 54 is clean, with pleasant people. The pool is great, with a friendly lifeguard. The workout room has updated equipment. Theres plenty of things to do in the gym area. I love it there.

Large and well-equipped exercise facility, including a great swimming pool, jogging track, basketball court, gym room with nautilus machines, rowers, treadmills and free weights from 5 lbs to extreme poundage. Air-conditioned. Heated in winter.Just west of 1st Avenue on 54th Street.

Decent local gym with good equipment

Theres so many options of activities to do for all ages every day of the week. Of course, for any activity theres a need for commitment, so be sure this is something you or your child need before paying for subscription.

I was given a tour of this facility. I saw this gentlemen that was obviously intoxicated . So after speaking with staff. I was informed this was standard? I immediately decided to speak with one of the managers. A Emanuel Diaz. And the same sentiment was rebuffed. Even after a member told him this individual was doing his laundry in the shower area. Is this what our tax dollars are going towards? Managers that allow intoxicated individuals into recreation centers that children utilize? The level of incompetence is one thing. But endangering minors is another. Obviously I didnt sign up. No intention after witnessing such lack of leadership skills.

The staff are very rude. Especially the manager. I stopped going there because of the way she spoke to me. Hope someone realizes shes doing this to people and getting away with it and has her fired.

We attended a free paint session. All materials were provided and I now have a great NYC souvenir that I made myself! NYC residents are lucky to have such a great center. The pool looks wonderful as well.

I took the standard tour of the place and I can confirm staff werent really receptive to my questions. One of the staff members mentioned in passing how management spends most of their time “pretending to work” or not monitoring cameras. Not sure why you would tell someone taking a tour that but okay. Something isnt right at this center. I got a really negative vibe. Like something shady is going on but I couldnt put my finger on it. It has beautiful ceiling architecture though. I opted not to sign up however.

Great if you want basic gym without the bells and whistles

Cant complain about $125.00 a year for membership or $25.00 for seniors or disabled. NYC Parks Dept.

Since last year this center, under the new management, has improved very much. It appears that frequent lock thefts, including from the secured safes, have been reduced or eliminated. The place is also much cleaner and the new staff servicing center much more polite and helpful. However, why the city was waiting for months and years instead of making personal changes in the management of the center when from all the criticism was obvious that the previous management was either not willing or able to manage this great facility. The pool is great, however again why the city was waiting for months with the ceiling walls repairs and let them to deteriorate so much that now the pool must be closed for 3 weeks (until 20 Sept.). Hopefully, the repairs will be performed professionally (instead of spreading spider nets below the affected area).This, maybe the best NYC center, should be under the NYC permanent observation to prevent the previous problems to reappear.

The staff there were terrible and treated My friends I with disrespect and kicked us out and not to mention they made fun of my friend with disabilities

I came here looking for recreation unfortunately those that are in management here clearly have no idea what that means. As unfortunate it feels what i have to say. Many of the negative reviews here can not properly explain how terrible this place is. One particular person a manager a small short bald man that is one of the most incompetent and rude people I have ever met. Several people attempted to speak to him in Spanish and he simply ignored them as they spoke I particularly didnt like the sarcastic tone he took with me when I asked him a question .That to me became the best reason never to come back here again.

I came here with a guest pass a friend got for me. I wanted to see what they had to offer gym wise. He kept telling me the price is the lowest in the city. I can see why now. That morning the staff at the front desk was very rude and indifferent as I asked questions about programs they offered. When I spoke to management I was met with that same indifference. Talk about people hating their jobs. Only positive thing I can say is that the place appeared clean and thats about it. Horrible costumer service. Ill Pass.

A clean and wholesome place to go for recreation and workout whether it be swimming or basketball or just to get a public bath at a nominal fee. Other activities to engage you include computer classes and tree cutting lessons and info

Went here to volunteer with the Keen program. Pretty old school gym. But was nice.

I have been pleasantly impressed by the knowledgeable, professional staff at the Parks & Rec Center. They have been quick to address any concerns.

I accompany my friend here from time to time after our jogs in the morning. The staff is very rude and for some reason the elevator always smells of urine. When my friend approaches management due to equipment failure. The issue lingers for weeks/months before its resolved. I think the only reason she continues to go here is because of a decent kids program.Take the hit and save up for a better gym. Planet Fitness,Blinks or anything else. Trust me, you will be glad you did.

I used to go this center but a change up in management has made me stay clear. Sorry to agree with many of the negative reviews. But if you attend this center frequently . You can tell head management just doesnt care. When you arent held accountable for your actions. Its easy to just collect a check I suppose. It wasnt always this bad though. Previous management was strick but got the job done. Enforced the rules.Good news. Other centers exist. Bad news. Dont expect anything to get done.

Its good for the price. Pool is deep and clean which is great.

Big swimming pool but some areas were temporarily closed due to construction. Need to sign up for at least 6 months membership to use the facility. Free for everyone under 18.

Its missing something. The place needs more activities to stimulate the minds of the younger crowds. There is a shared space for wiffle ball, basketball, building blocks and arts and crafts is on another floor. Arts and crafts needs some more structure and more supplies for kids and young adults.

The pool is in the basement and there isnt an elevator but its not crowded and its nice and deep

Weight room good equipment, 4 treadmills, small bball court with track above with some cardio machines on it, gender lockers good sized pool shaped like a Tetris piece though lmao need swimming cap to get in, and need strong lock to get in building.

My experience in this was so-so i almost got into a fight with other people in there the sercuity guard is always harassing me and alot of tough guys in there like to pick on people so it rated 1
