A vital institution in the independent theatre community providing free rehearsal and performance space. The sheer amount of artists that they program is staggering, and while it is a chaotic balancing act and revolving door of sorts, they are doing so to benefit performing artists of all backgrounds and disciplines. The facilities seem to look just a little better every time I visit, and groups are always finding new ways to innovate within the constraints of sharing the spaces. The volunteers who run box office and refreshments are always charming and upbeat, and the staff are very accommodating and resourceful.

We saw a show here and really enjoyed the space. Getting in and getting tickets was easy. We got some drinks at the bar and enjoyed our show. As a non-profit arts space were happy to support the Tank and were going to keep an eye on future shows here. Its also easy to get to from the trains in Penn station. We saw a show that was 7 playwrights who wrote short plays based on shared rules they all came up with. The show was fun, provocative and very creative. They run this show every other month and were definitely going to go to more.

Terrible experience here. We had front row seats to a performance and at the last minute the venue puts four chairs in front of us completely blocking our view of the stage. We paid for front row and then had the worst view because the chairs were literally in front of us and there was no slope or incline allowing us to see. The four people in the chairs came at the last minute to the show and the venue prioritized them and allowed them to sit together at our expense. One of the worst things I’ve seen a venue ever do to paying customers. Avoid!

My visit to the Tank was what I imagine a ride inside a real tank would be like; cramped, loud and hot. Their air conditioning unit had been wrecked, making the theater extremely uncomfortable. Their mission is important, but I would have understood if theyd cancelled tonight. The high temperature was 90 degrees!

I LOVE THIS SPACE. The Tank represents everything incredible about theater. New works, new artists, six different theatrical disciplines, accessible, inclusive, affordable 24/7. Not to mention their INCREDIBLE artistic directors, who are simultaneously saving the world. Beautiful, beautiful space.

Oh! this is what you imagine theater was in ...well - back in the day. Little theaters with little shows. Lots of heart and lots of variety.I have been here a few times. It is just west of Midtown so easy to get to. The doors can be a bit confusing (one for day, one for night) but are well market.Be prepared for stairs.Support small theaters!!

I like the stage a lot. The problem I had was to get into the place. Different signs put you back and fourth for no reason. The door at the Tank should have no sign, or open sign. Simple, not all this stuff that will make people turn away.

Cool shows; great staff. Theyre very flexible with production teams, and they have decent--but limited--equipment. Be advised that they are busy and lose track of space related details, such as where cables are run, inventories of specific theaters, etc. Build a little extra time into your schedule to compensate.

No New Yorker wants to make the trek to Times Square area but The Tank is a space you wouldnt expect. Its tucked away in an office building, a little independent theater on one of the upper floors. The group of people who run this venue are so dedicated to the arts, curate lovely shows and treat the talent more than fairly. Ive seen clowns, drama, comedy, burlesque, puppets all at the Tank. Forget Wicked or Phantom of the Opera...go see a show at the Tank.
